New York State is nearing agreement on a proposal to put what would be some of the nations strictest gun-control laws into effect, including what Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo vowed on Wednesday would be an ironclad ban on assault weapons and large-capacity magazines, and new measures to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and mentally ill people.
Lawmakers in Albany, seeking to send a message to the nation that the recent mass shootings demand swift action, say they hope to vote on the package of legislation as soon as next week.
The Assembly speaker, Sheldon Silver, a Manhattan Democrat, told reporters on Wednesday that Mr. Cuomo and legislative leaders were 95 percent of the way toward an agreement. Senate Republicans, considered the only possible obstacle to the governors proposal, indicated they did not intend to block a deal. . .

they can't control the fringes but they can sure control the middle....more taxes, more regulations, more threats...
Are they going to raid the mosques? Islamberg? ANY muslim compound?
the leftist are in an orgasmic frenzy at the notion of disarming the public. That is to be expected. That gun owners are allowing this to happen is what really makes me sick.
Cuomo would be wise to fear those he’s trying to make into sitting ducks.
Come on, Cuomo...show us you can disarm the loonies first.
If you CAN’T (and you won’t be able to), lay off the those that wish to defend themselves—if you don’t, you’ll regret it.
Cuomo should publically announce that his security is disarming first. Lets just wait to see how that works before anyone else buys in to his ideas!
***I definately think they should keep the guns out of the hands of the criminals and the mentally ill....but don’t we have laws about that already?....***
Problem solved! 1968!
“Today we begin to disarm the criminal and the careless and the insane. All of our people who are deeply concerned in this country about law and order should hail this day.”
- Lyndon Johnson when he signed the 1968 GCA into law.
Should 10% of those take out on an average 10 to one, things may change.
Well...the ONLY law I would approve is making sure elected officials have NO GUNS around THEM ANYWHERE!!!!
My co-worker came from Brazil and when I asked him how he could leave such a beautiful country he said it was the out of control crime. Told me that guns are illegal in Brazil so only criminals and bodyguards for the rich and powerful have guns. You are not safe anywhere since the crooks are in charge and they take anything they want. They round up people in restaurants on a regular basis and collect their valuables. My co-worker’s sister is a lawyer and she always has a body guard. He said the police are incapable of fighting the amount of crime that takes place. Also, hoards of parentless kids are like rodents in the city, on drugs and killed off like rats by the police.
This is our future if the rats get their way.
LBJ (the idiot...) bump!
News flash - Cuomo is readying legislation to ban wall street con artists, power outages, and pigeons from roosting on public statues.
Exploit, kneejerk, exploit, kneejerk. The lowlife, anti-American, anti-Bill of Rights, little Andy Cuomo can’t believe his luck.

"New laws are always a good idea until the first time you have to enforce them." - Unknown
Democrat politicians are a bunch of buffoons.
If New York bans “assault rifles” well then, New Yorkers possessing said items are criminals or crazy for not meekly turning them in. So it’s sort of a combo Yossarian-Solzhenitsyn-1984 dilemma.
The problem most of us have with the last sane Americans in New York and California turning the lights off and leaving is: NIMBY, keep on movin’ please. Blue state ‘Okies’. Man, there goes the neighborhood.
Black marketeers are chomping at the bit. The proof is Fast and Furious.
Are they going to break into the inner city gangs and round up all their black market (and stolen) guns? These are people engaged in the drug related homicides and these homicides are the majority of homicides.
I left NY in ‘74 to join the AF - never looked back and proud to be a Mississippian today.
