Washington is broke and broken. What passes for problem-solving in the United States Senate has shattered the trust of the American people.

Our nation is facing monumental financial problems that the career politicians from both political parties created over many decades...and now they're busy squabbling and finger-pointing instead of recognizing our problems and buckling down to the hard work of fixing them.

Clever sound bites take the place of ideas. Petty partisan attacks take the place of leadership. Brinkmanship - Washington's version of playing chicken - takes the place of honest discussion. I had a business for 31 years and I have to tell you, Washington is the most un-businesslike place on earth.

I can't imagine having to operate my Oshkosh manufacturing company, PACUR, without a budget, nor can I imagine operating my family household without a budget...and I'm sure you can't either. But that is how Washington operates our country - the single largest financial entity in the world!!

Washington, D.C. is 700 miles away from Oshkosh and it's a million miles away from reality!!

I guess we could just give up - and wash our hands of the whole mess. But where would that leave our nation - our future? I don't mind telling you that I am highly frustrated, but I'm sure not going to quit the fight. We're just going to have to battle tooth and nail. Frankly, as Americans who care deeply, we can not afford to lose.
