Doesn't take that much extra money. Redirect funds. Install an electric fence. End "catch and release" in exchange for "catch and prosecute". Permit border patrol to use lethal force if necessary to apprehend suspected illegal crossers. Sue sanctuary cities to require them to turn over suspected illegal aliens to the INS.
That's been obvious since the beginning. Until there is a majority in congress who are serious about and willing to do something about border security and funding, nothing but lip service will be paid to the problem of illegals. The POTUS doesn't have dictatorial powers.
Then why didn't congress appropriate those funds? Why doesn't congress authorize funds for a border fence and thousands more border patrol and INS officers?

Give up your lame excuses. Your statement is an irrelevancy which you raise in a feeble attempt to ignore Dubya’s own culpability.
Dubya’s intention, which he alluded to repeatedly when he ran for the Presidency, was to ignore and subvert American immigration law. And that is what he did.
For Dubya, his oath of office wasn’t binding when it required him to enforce immigration law. Mexican nationals were welcome to break the law and he helped them do it. He had no intention of deporting them back to their own country.
By comparison to the worthless Dubya, Clinton was a hard line law and order President when it came to enforcing immigration law. And of course Clinton didn’t do much. He simply didn’t try to subvert the law in Dubya’s fashion.
So now, thanks to Bush and his treason lobby pals, California is a bastion for the Democratic left. And it will become even more solidly so when Obama finally pushes through Bush’s amnesty. I fully expect to see Crawford’s village idiot attending the signing ceremony. Enjoy.

1. Immigration and Reform Control Act (IRCA), 1986: A blanket amnesty for over 2.7 million illegal aliens
2. Section 245(i) Amnesty, 1994: A temporary rolling amnesty for 578,000 illegal aliens
3. Section 245(i) Extension Amnesty, 1997: An extension of the rolling amnesty created in 1994
4. Nicaraguan Adjustment and Central American Relief Act (NACARA) Amnesty, 1997: An amnesty for close to one million illegal aliens from Central America
5. Haitian Refugee Immigration Fairness Act Amnesty (HRIFA), 1998: An amnesty for 125,000 illegal aliens from Haiti
6. Late Amnesty, 2000: An amnesty for some illegal aliens who claim they should have been amnestied under the 1986 IRCA amnesty, an estimated 400,000 illegal aliens
7. LIFE Act Amnesty, 2000: A reinstatement of the rolling Section 245(i) amnesty, an estimated 900,000 illegal aliens
While President Bill Clinton made some efforts to combat illegal immigration during the 1990s, the problem remained. In 1996 the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 was passed. Still, leaders from Central American and Caribbean nations relied heavily on untaxed remittances sent back to their countries from the United States, and worried that Clinton would support mass deportations. While at least paying lip service to enforcement of laws, Clinton assured these leaders that there would be no mass deportations. There were about 7 million illegal aliens residing in the U.S. when he left office.

Most people personally benefit in some way. Cheap food, cheap labor, etc. The passion is there against amnesty, but not to stop the flow.
The same reason people increasingly purchase imported goods.The majority of people just don't GAS about the decline in US manufacturing or the increase in illegal immigration. It's been obvious for decades.

True, but Bush was the leader of the Republican Party, and illegal immigration has in fact created a situation now where it’s nearly impossible for the GOP to win on a national level due to demographics alone, before any campaigning even takes place. And that means that America is screwed not only because the Democrats have become the Party of anti-everything that America has ever stood for, but also because without competition and accountability, failure is assured.
No, he was a governor who was elected POTUS. There were plenty of long tenured members of the GOP who were ELECTED to congress that could have introduced meaningful legislation to secure our borders.

We passed Prop 187 in 1994. That’s a mere six years before George the Dim was elected. And we passed Prop 187 despite that fool’s opposition to it.
Feinstein, Boxer, Pelosi, Davis, Maxine and Brown are all most need to know. Try defending that motley crew of leftards. You should be ashamed of yourselves for foisting those POS on California and the country.
