Senator Lieberman's Farewell Letter
Email

Posted on 12/19/2012 11:50:05 AM PST by matt04

At the end of this year, I will retire from the United States Senate. As my twenty-four years in Congress draw to a close, I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve as your Senator. This has been an extraordinary privilege. During my career, I have always been inspired by the strength shown by people through even our darkest days; and this past Friday, December 14th, was certainly one of the darkest in Connecticut’s history. But even in the wake of the terrible tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School, we remain as united by our resolve to build a more perfect union as we are in our grief over the innocent lives that we lost in Newtown.

Over the years, I have benefited from your thoughts and concerns on important legislative policies and their impacts on Connecticut, in particular, and the nation, as a whole. I thank you for writing to me.

I am proud to have served on the Committees on Armed Services, Environment and Public Works, Small Business, and especially as Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. Among my top priorities in the Senate has been to improve the health, safety, and economic well-being of our citizens, to preserve the freedoms that we all cherish, and to protect the beauty of our state and nation’s irreplaceable natural treasures.

Throughout my career in the Senate, I have worked to ensure sufficient federal funding for critical programs and services for the benefit of my constituents. In addition, I have fought on behalf of our men and women in uniform, our veterans, and our first responders, whose mission is the security of our homeland. For defending our freedom and safety, we certainly owe them our enormous gratitude and support.

As is custom, I had the privilege of delivering farewell remarks on the Senate floor last week. If you would like to view them, just click here.

Finally, I want to say that an active and engaged citizenry is essential to our democracy. I hope you will continue to stay in touch with your elected representatives in the future. Lifting your voice, and working together with those in Congress and in the Administration, you really can make a great difference.

I wish you every blessing in the days and years ahead.

Sincerely,

Joseph I. Lieberman UNITED STATES SENATOR

The man has it both ways in many regards. He just praised Obama and we know Obama does not respect Israel. Come on, this isn’t hate..let’s be real.

I’m glad I had the chance to thank Joe personally for his viewpoints and stance on Israel. The very stance that made his entire EAT HIM ALIVE.

That said his push for this sort of policy MUST be stopped, and I am very happy to hear he has decided to retire. I wish him a good, long retirement.

Finally, some good news to come out of today. I hope his replacement will be a reasonable individual, and more importantly - a Patriot.

Joe was the ultimate battered spouse, the dims always promised to be faithful to him and even after he got a separation he kept on coming back for more abuse at their hands.

At some point you just have stop blaming the abuser and have to start looking at the victim and wonder how they can be so co-dependent on someone who is so abusive to them.

Well at least this abusive relationship is at an end.

The Bet Din saw it quite differently. They did the closest thing we have to an excommunication to joe lieberman and have never rescinded it.

I don't think I nor people overall should be included as we..because I don't post nor speak that way as what you described. I was not even going near anything of him being a good/bad person. I was referring to his go along attitude and drive that most of these same politicians have after serving for too many years. At times, he sides with the democrat, then he sides with the republicans.. as the winds blow. I don't look up to a political of these sorts. I am sorry for the confusion. imo.

Lieberman was always a strong supporter of our military. He does deserve recognition for that.

I admire him for making this statement in his farewell: “And I apologize for pretending to support the American Military and Israel while continuously supporting a party that despised both”. Oh wait. He didn’t. And I don’t.

Good riddens to a man that lied to the Bishops here in Ct about abortion and the same man who tried to disenfranchise military votes in florida in an effort to get Mount Climate Change elected POTUS.

MODERATOR! You probably should delete my post #34. The link is OK. But, the page it goes to has a link that made my computer freeze when I clicked on it. That happened twice.

If there is a better way for me to alert the mods, please do it, or PM me after I'm done scanning for viruses.

Thanks!

For the record, the bad link was to Glen Greenwald's old Salon.com piece when Lieberman announced his retirement. DO NOT click on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But the original link I listed is fine. And funny.

I know this thread is dead. But I don't know where else to post this. DO NOT GO TO SALON.COM The whole site makes me crash and messed up my disk and browser settings. When I Googled it, I see that this happens to that site a lot.

Karma for visiting lefties?

Oh, that other page I linked to was a lefty also. But the bit on Lieberman was actually funny.
