EXCLUSIVE: Fear of being committed may have caused Connecticut gunman to snap
FoxNews.com ^ | 12-18-2012 | Jana Winter

“From what I've been told, Adam was aware of her petitioning the court for conservatorship and (her) plans to have him committed," Flashman told FoxNews.com. "Adam was apparently very upset about this. He thought she just wanted to send him away. From what I understand, he was really, really angry. I think this could have been it, what set him off.”

A senior law enforcement official involved in the investigation confirmed that Lanza's anger at his mother over plans for “his future mental health treatment” is being looked at as a possible motive for the deadly shooting.

Flashman was told Nancy Lanza had begun filing paperwork to get conservatorship over her troubled son, but that could not be confirmed because a court official told FoxNews.com such records are sealed. The move would have been necessary for her to gain the legal right to commit an adult to a hospital or psychiatric facility against his will. A competency hearing had not yet been held.

Adam Lanza attended the Sandy Hook School as a boy, according to Flashman, who said Nancy Lanza had volunteered there for several years. Two law enforcement sources said they believed Nancy Lanza had been volunteering with kindergartners at the school. Most of Lanza's victims were first graders sources believe Nancy Lanza may have worked with last year.

Flashman said Nancy Lanza was also good friends with the school’s principal and psychologist—both of whom were killed in the shooting rampage.

As bad as it was for them, one of my friend's other brothers-in-law was talking to his wife on the phone as he drove there from the airport. All of a sudden he hears multiple gunshots, screams, and the phone drops to the floor.

It was a couple of minutes before everything calmed down enough that his wife was able to get back on the line. I cannot even begin to fathom what was going through his mind for those minutes, which probably seemed like eternity.

We need to send congratulations, along with Christmas cards to the ACLU in honor of their murderous stupidity over denying this mother a way of easily committing her son.

POST OF THE YEAR!!!

It is strange to me that he tried to buy a gun a few days ahead of time, knowing there were guns in the house. If he had easy access to guns at home, why would he try to buy one, knowing he risked discovery of his plan by doing so?

I wonder if he created a ruse to get his mother to access the guns at home, and his ruse worked—then the killing started.
Just a thought...

We have fingerprint technology with gun safes now — we ourselves are thinking of obtaining one to store our guns, as we have an autistic son who is now 11.

Would have perhaps helped this mother.

I still can’t figure out why she would take him to a shooting range. Just sounds a bit extreme to be teaching those skills to a kid like this.

Exactly. This isn’t the time for idle speculation. This is the time to get organized and meet the statists head-on.

He broke into a locked school! Never say never when it comes to a madman. They connive and watch your every move.

Which is probably why he had his older brother's ID on him.

More proof that the killer didn't just suddenly snap, but had carefully planned the massacre.

Or alternatively she drove him to madness through well-intentioned but destructive over-protection and by presenting him as a danger to others and to himself and by giving him dangerous medications.

Being dead doesn’t make her perfect or a saint. What evidence we have (medicine, speaking ill of him to his babysitter and giving him access to weapons doesn’t indicate great parenting)

There is no actual evidence that he posed any sort of threat to anyone until he was faced with the prospect of being locked up and put under state care for life for being different.

Maybe that was what led to the “altercation” at the school on the day before. His mother relied upon people both she and her son knew for the psych eval or what have you, and they tried to break it to him, an intervention of sorts?

It wasn’t Aspergers or “Autism Spectrum Disorder” that killed 27 people plus the perp. It was Adam Lanza who made the decision

So a sane mind did it. Gotcha!

and his mother who aided and abetted by failing to secure her weapons from her dangerous son.

What you *think* doesn't make it fact. A sane person would have facts before they accuse the dead who can't defend themselves.

Well there was another nurse on here that stated he or she could tell numerous stories. I guess I'm the same and this was prior to nursing. I've told enough folks on here working psych wards for ____( have to redact) and that's how I got injured. I wish I could say it's getting better.

The quality of care and some designer anti psychotics might be getting better but laws and rules and regs make it harder to "cure' or even "normalize' a patient for a number of reason i couldn't discuss without a huge post, pages long. So, I'll quit. There's much more just to that story I didn't post. but really , oh I better stop. There's ways to help patients, but as stated above, it'll never happen because of the laws, sacred bleeding hearts clubs and good filthy sick lawyers.

something else,,, his Mom was said to have ‘never left him alone in a room’....

Yet the day before the killings, he may have driven to the school by himself and had an ‘altercation’ with staff?

Mom was trying to get him committed. Did she leave him alone some days to go talk to lawyers, etc? Or did she
have a ‘babysitter’ those days?

Mom also went to a local bar and talked with a friend at times, so was he left alone during these times (unless there is a regular ‘babysitter’.).

Who else ‘helped’ her with her son?

I’m thinking the mom had a friend at the school who was the counselor and may have been helping her (or giving advice) about Adam. Thus, the ‘altercation’. I think I read, somewhere, someone thought the counselor at that particular school may have been ‘treating’ him....but I could be wrong. So much misinformation.

he’s verbally abusive to my parents..they’re scared of him & walk on eggshells around him in their own house.

Got it. Sorry to hear of it. I didn't mean to make light of their difficulties.

My sister was a cop.Good shot too. When she went off her target was me.I tried to have her committed. She could talk her way out of anything-very intelligent and had 12 personalities.Doctor’s loved her for case study. She would show up at my house unannounced and be nice for 5 minutes, then threaten my kids and me and I would call the cops. She died mentaly ill and we were with her at her deathbed. She told me she had a dream that Mom and Dad were taking her to a new home.God bless Them.

A gun safe that your psycho sonwho you are trying to have committed has seen the numbers you use to open, or one that has an “easy to remember” combo that is something he could easily figure out

You don't know that!

Lame excuses do not absolve one of responsibility.

Lame talk does not absolve one of spreading gossip.
