The German population could jump by 2.2 million people by 2017 as people make the trek from the south to Europe’s post powerful economy, researchers at the Kiel Economics have concluded.

The researchers studied net migration to Germany over 50 years, and predicted that as euro-zone countries battle with their economic woes the relative strength and low unemployment rates of Germany will become an attractive lure.

Germany is already a popular destination for young and skilled Greeks, Spaniard and Portuguese, who have grown disheartened with the high unemployment rates and struggling economies that have become hallmarks of their homelands.

The Spanish unemployment rate has hit 24 per cent, and for the under 25s it has reached 54 per cent. In contrast German unemployment stands at 6.9 per cent, and the country has experienced shortages of skilled labour.

These will NOT be the people Germany needs to grow and prosper.

They will drag Germany down the same hell-hole the rest of the EU is going.

Germany would be wise to keep the islamist trash and lazy welfare cases out. Selective immigration is the only chance they have.

Not necessarily a draw back for Germany. The article stresses that these are young, skilled, workers. They would certainly be a better population for Germany than the folks who are pouring into Germany from the Middle East. At least there is a chance that these people are Europeans and either Christians or Jews, and not Muslims.

Selective immigration is the only chance they have

EU regulations govern migration between member countries. People from fellow EU countries are welcome regardless.

The problem with these immigrants is they tend to vote the same way as they did back home. Generally speaking, people that are willing to relocate to a whole new country will usually work hard. The problem is their ignorant voting patters simply continue in their new home. There are just a lot of people that move away from socialized places........and then ruin their new home by voting for the same leftist policies that they had to flee from in the first place. They simply do not connect their own voting patters with the failure of the places they come from.

Good. Germany willingly joined the EU. It’s time to pay the piper. They thought they would get rich from the free trade without any cost. They were wrong as all bigger government types are.

Sorry, no, that was incorrect. The young Greeks, Spaniards etc. that I have seen in Germany are extremely hard-working. They are fed up with their countries’ never-ending unemployment rates and desperately want work, some work, any work.

sorry, you're projecting the US situation

In the EU, you don't have to migrate to work in another EU country.

The Portuguese, Greeks etc. will retain their Portuguese, Greek etc. citizenship and work and pay taxes in Germany

Most won't go for German citizenship as it doesn't really make much difference -- you can buy a house, drive a car etc. in another EU country.

Germany willingly joined the EU.

sorry, but that is just silly talk

Germany joined the coal pact after WWII because it wanted to rehabilitate its image and to prevent another war between France and Germany -- so they along with Luxembourg and Belgium formed the Coal pact (can't remember the actual name)

This progressed to the EEC and the European community

The EEC and the EC have been very beneficial to European countries -- eliminating wars between members and increasing trade. Even the Conservatives in 1972 in the UK felt that it made sense to join -- and it still does (witness that London remains the financial center for the Euro)

About joining the Euro, you do realize that joining the Euro was one of the conditions given by French President Francois Mitterand to allow Germany to reunite right (the Germans had to get permission from the UK, France, US and Russia to do this) as he wanted to prevent Germany from getting too strong and aimed to subvent it in a "Europe" idea with France leading

Finally, the addition of hard-working, desperate people who want to work is not a bad thing -- these people will not be eligible for welfare from Germany as they will retain their citizenship in their homecountries -- you don't need German citizenship to work in Germany, if you are citizen of an EU member country.
