The irony is that CT has strict storage and transportation laws on the books. Either the kid somehow got access to the key/combo on his mom's safe, or the mom was in violation of the state's laws regarding same.
Regardless - he didn't use an "assault" weapon, he used two handguns, so why the call for another "assault" weapon ban?

With 40% of children being born out of wedlock, an entertainment industry focused on violence that desensitizes people to violence, disintegrating communities with fewer people attending church or participating in community events, and the advent of technology that makes it easier for the atomization of society and less interchange with their neighbors and colleagues, is it any wonder such incidents take place?
The mass media and the entertainment industry should do some soul searching instead of pouncing on gun control as the culprit. And so should our political elites who are fanning the fire of division within our country on the basis of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and wealth. Obama has been a divider not a uniter.

We seriously need to start leveling accusations of deliberate and reckless disregard of the safety of "the children" against schools and public places. If those institutions are assuming the responsibility for the protection of our most precious resource, they had damned well be ready for these not-too-rare (almost common) acts of domestic terrorism.

There are wolves everywhere, in our government, our cities and our communities. They look at the rest of us as sheep. Some of these wolves are pushing to leave the rest of us defenseless, telling us to trust them to protect us. Why in the world would anyone trust these people??? They want us disarmed for only one reason...so they can have complete control of us!
Sometimes a horrific evil happens but that is no reason to take away the gifts God gave us that are listed in The Bill of Rights.

I've seen that photo a lot over the last few days -- that rifle shouldn't be loaded -- it's Israeli SOP, they're very big on gun safety -- and she may not even have any ammo for it on her person.
Israel is far more restrictive of gun ownership than even the bluest of the blue states in the US.

CNN had folks who tell the truth about gun laws but Blitzer not interested in hearing.
