CNN Analysis: Kerry would bring experience, deep personal resources to State Dept.
Chicken Noodle News (CNN) ^ | December 16, 2012 | Elise Labott and Jill Dougherty

Sen. John Kerry, who sources say has been tapped by President Barack Obama to replace Hillary Clinton as secretary of state, will come to the post with a full plate of foreign policy crises, from the civil war in Syria, to the nuclear antics of North Korea, to a looming showdown with Iran over its nuclear program.

Anybody who follows Clinton would have some pretty big shoes to fill. Clinton was not just the most popular member of the president's Cabinet for the past four years, she had celebrity status and respect almost everywhere she went around the world.

But as a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for almost 30 years, the past four as chairman, Kerry himself is a highly respected figure on the world stage. While Obama is not close to a lot of world leaders, Kerry has deep relationships with many heads of state that he can draw on as the nation's top diplomat. Sources close to the Massachusetts Democrat note that the increasing partisanship on Capitol Hill has disillusioned Kerry and he is ready to leave the Senate.

He is no stranger to diplomacy and has often traveled overseas on behalf of the Obama administration as a diplomatic troubleshooter and to mend frayed relationships. Kerry persuaded Afghan President Hamid Karzai to agree to an election runoff in 2009 and has traveled Pakistan after a series of incidents, including the raid that killed al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

I have to hand it to the libtards at CNN for their excellent analysis on this one ... it is indeed a big pair of pants to fill ... but with all his superb military and foreign policy experience ... and with all of lovey's deep personal financial resources ... Lurch would indeed be the perfect choice to help finish the job that the Royal Idiot and the World's Smartest Woman have begun!

At least we get him out of the senate, and with Marxist Val Jarrett and Islamist Huma Abdeen running foreign policy, he will have nothing to do.

That is Exactly what we need right now ~ “swift boat” diplomacy !
Incidently , has he paid his Masachusettes taxes on the sailboat that he has hidden in Rhode Island , or is that Theresa’s job ? Has the Massachusettes tax been paid yet ?
Enroute to becomming a bannana Republic , it is only fitting that ‘hero ‘ John Kerry lead us there !!

John Kerry couldn’t even fill Hilary’s thong !

Curious that "a renaissance person with a tremendous range of skill, both political and substantive, with a deep reservoir of knowledge" would be second choice for Secretary of State to a disgraced liar.

(Art.) Kerry himself is a highly respected figure on the world stage.

Yeah, as the senior KGB asset in the U.S. Senate after Ted Kennedy's demise, he brings all kind of cred to the table.

You morons. You think 40 years as a dope-smoking mouthpiece for Hanoi Hannah is "foreign policy experience" in any sense meaningful to the American people?

These guys are totally inbred and useless.

I join all FReepers in applauding this choice for Secretary of State.

Senator Kerry has "hands on" experience and served in combat.. some of you may not know that Kerry served in Viet Nam.

As a service member he lived the life of a little person during those months.. he remembers what it's like to be one of us.

He also has spoken about the good and the bad America. I found sources for the latter but I am still looking for a source for the former.

Here's what Senator Kerry (as a young Naval officer) reported to the American people upon return from his service in Viet Nam.

It is not pretty but it proves that he will get the essential respect and approval that a Sec. of State needs from countries who all believe that America sucks.

There were American "war crimes committed in Southeast Asia, not isolated incidents but crimes committed on a day-to-day basis with the full awareness of officers at all levels of command.

"It is impossible to describe to you exactly . . . the absolute horror of what this country, in a sense, made [our servicemen] do.

"[Servicemen said] they had personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, tape wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in fashion reminiscent of Ghengis Khan, shot cattle and [tied] dogs [to the tops of vehicles] for fun, poisoned food stocks, and generally ravaged the country side of South Vietnam in addition to the normal ravage of war, and the normal and very particular ravaging which is done by the applied bombing power of this country."

I mentioned Kerry's military experience above.. even more outstanding is his diplomatic initiatives.

Though only a young Naval officer in the reserves he established his own Paris Peace talks with the Viet Minh demonstrating his ability to work with other countries for a common solution.

From this we can expect matters vis-a-vis Iran, North Korea.. the whole lot of them.. to be cleared up forthwith.

Popularity and celebrity - no other qualications are relevant for the job. In the world of progressive government, packaging trumps substance every time.

John Kerry is remarkably unfit for any responsible post.

As demonstrated by his bizarre offer to McCain in 2004 where, as his Vice President, McCain would have full control of foreign policy and national defense.

In other words, Kerry had no interest in actually being President, he just wanted to play the President on TV.

They failed to mention that Mr. Kerry is brilliant, absolutely brilliant, but not as brilliant as her brilliance Mrs. Clinton, who is the wife of the brilliant, absolutley brilliant, President Clinton, whose presidency was brilliant, absolutely brilliant, much different from that knuckle-dragging moron George Bush.

And that includes serving in Cambodia during Christmas, 1968, after President Nixon ordered him to go there to take part in his "secret war."

Hillarie’s Thong! I remember when Bill Clinton when to Brazil and bought two thong bikini’s —but then—they may not have been for his wife. Think of all the good things from this appointment!
1. Kerry’s now out of the Senate! One less Dem.
2. He’s off a powerful committee.
3. He’s got loads of friends in the Communist world.
4. He will be motivated to do a good job—to look better than Hillary if nothing else.
5. He will be a refreshing change from Hil.
6. He did serve in the military once—something the President never did. He can give a proper salute.
7. He can’t screw things up worst than they are.

Don't be so sure.

Kerry won't have Huma telling him what to do and say. And left to his own devices -- which are admittedly meager --Kerry is quite capable of making an even bigger hash of things.

RE: "And that includes serving in Cambodia during Christmas, 1968, after President Nixon ordered him to go there to take part in his "secret war."

That's right! I'd forgot. A newly elected president was so anxious to get the benefit of young Kerry's abilities that -- even before he was sworn in as president -- Nixon asked Kerry to do diplomatic/military missions!
