Scientists Find Mega-Oil Field ... 1,300 Light Years Away

Have our wishes been answered? Scientists have found an oil field which contains 200 times more hydrocarbons than there is water on the whole of the Earth.

Time to wave peak oil goodbye forever … but before you do I should probably inform you of the tiny hiccup in any plan to develop this oil field.

It is around 1,300 light years away.

The scientists work at the Max Planck Institute in Germany, and using the 30m-telescope of the Institute for Radio Astronomy they discovered a vast cloud of hydrocarbons within the Horse Head Nebula galaxy in the Orion constellation.

I’m sure any aliens who dare to drill for oil will be fined for polluting the universe.

When (If) we harness the technology to get there, running out of oil will be the least of our concerns.

“When (If) we harness the technology to get there, running out of oil will be the least of our concerns.”

Very true. However, it would horrify liberals. That makes it worthwhile :-).

if oil is produced by plant and animal life... what does this mean?

or does this mean plant and animal life isnt required for the process?

It means dinosaurs invented warp travel before us, but their smog doomed them.

I have always suspected that the planet regenerates it's own oil fields. They appear to replenish themselves.

What really horrifies Liberals about space travel is that it opens up a whole new frontier. One that is infinite and will likely never be conquered. When new planets are being colonized, there won’t be a lot of room for Liberal fantasies, silly laws, or PC. And I’ll bet the colonists won’t like paying taxes either.

And, actually, that's a helluva cogent point.

In this case, we have to assume, don't we, that the hydrocarbons appeared as a natural product -- without benefit of giant reptiles or pre-historic ferns?
