The numbers may come as a surprise to Congress, which estimated in September that the poverty rate would drop to 46.2 million. There go those danged surprises again.
Doesn't matter that we have been seeing, with our own eyes, people we know who are out of work and struggling to find a job.
Just those danged surprises and our lying eyes at work again.

We didn’t hear that before the election. I wonder why.
If the communists continue as they are doing, it will be 340 million in poverty. The rest will be the government elite which as always is insulated from poverty.
To: george76
They’ve got Obama. Who needs money or a job if you’ve got Obama?.

And the folks in “poverty” are receiving >$40K per year in benefits as the fedgov continues to spend $1.40 for every $1 in revenue.
The govt is like the family in 2007 riding a wave of false prosperity based on maxxed out credit cards and helocs on a house with negative equity.

new statistics on Americas poverty rate indicate that nearly 50 million Americans, more than 16 percent of the population, are struggling to survive. But, but, but Mr President. The math does not work!
Population of USA is just under 315 million, so 315MM divided by 50MM = 6.3% not the 16 percent stated above.

No one cares, least of all those who stand to pofit the most from poverty-the Democrats.
