Adviser: Romney "shellshocked" by loss
CBS ^

Posted on 11/08/2012 3:14:29 PM PST by Arthurio

Mitt Romney's campaign got its first hint something was wrong on the afternoon of Election Day, when state campaign workers on the ground began reporting huge turnout in areas favorable to President Obama: northeastern Ohio, northern Virginia, central Florida and Miami-Dade.

Then came the early exit polls that also were favorable to the president.

But it wasn't until the polls closed that concern turned into alarm. They expected North Carolina to be called early. It wasn't. They expected Pennsylvania to be up in the air all night; it went early for the President.

After Ohio went for Mr. Obama, it was over, but senior advisers say no one could process it.

"We went into the evening confident we had a good path to victory," said one senior adviser. "I don't think there was one person who saw this coming."

Bingo. When you have to run against a corrupt MSM full of Manhattan leftists, you’re going to need someone on your side willing to give them a taste of their own ruthlessness.

The elitists in the media are arrogant, and arrogant people always have exploitable weaknesses. If I was Sheldon Adelson, I’d target certain people in the media and pay people to shadow their every move. Sooner or later they would slip up and then I would destroy them.

I gave up my home state. Minnesota was my home till I was 20 yrs old. I always thought of it as home even though they voted kind of quirky but as of this election, I honestly don’t think of it as my home state anymore. They elected Keith Ellison, a practicing Muslim. They were the only state that Reagan didn’t win. They vote for the likes of Ron Paul and Ross Perot. They elected Jesse Ventura governer! LOL! Now they elected a dead man to city council in Minneapolis, I think it was. Not only elected him, they are proud of being so stupid! I am ashamed of ever living there. I have lived in Tennessee for 44 years. It is truly home to me. I am proud to be from Tennessee.

I wish I had known better because this let down was huge.

Same here. Emotionally I have been a basket case. Tummy issues, the works! I really had little doubt we would win. Thought win would be BIG......so when it was called for O I sank way down !!!

Do you really, really believe there are enough Conservatives in this country to ever win again???

The Democrat machine, and Main stream media will not allow that to ever happen..

what I saw with this election told me that...and it will probably be years before they are voted out if ever...

your right I’ve given up..MSM and crooks control America...and Government will soon be controlling our very breath...

I was thinking today that is it - hate sells!

There are good things to hate: imagine a conservative that hated the injustices in our "justice" system, you know the one where a judge can declare something completely contrary to the State's constitution and still be valid: link. Imagine a conservative that hates the twisting and turning of the Constitution, imagine a candidate who hates loading the people with debt that they can never pay off.

George Orwell wrote about the power of hate in 1984. Everyone had to attend periodic "hate sessions" where pictures of the state's enemies would be shown on a huge screen and the people were "encouraged" to scream at the top of their lungs in raw hatred at the enemies of the state. The Dems figured out a long time ago that the more that blacks hate whites, the more they can exploit that hatred.

I had that same feeling. I told my DH, Romney looks like he can’t believe he lost and Obama looks like he can’t believe he won. I think the Obamas just wanted to go live in their 35 mil mansion in Hawaii.

I honestly feel the same way. Why or why can’t the voter fraud be cleaned up? Why can’t enough well-to-do Conservative/Republicans investigate the voting in Virginia, Ohio, North Carolina, Florida, Pennsylvania, etc. There was no Obama enthusiasm in these states. We have undercover investigators cleaning up other things, why can’t we have the National Security of our country (our voting process) investigated? Something has got to be done. How many Republican governors have investigated voting in their states? Come on now. Let’s get this organized. . . Our futures depend on this.

Your post was very moving! I think it reflects how many of us feel. I will probably live to see more elections but I feel no more hope for this country. I really believe it is gone and that breaks my heart, too. I think we conservatives will just live out the rest of our days just trying to survive in this hellhole this once beautiful country has become. But on the bright side, the left destroy everything and they will eventually destroy themselves and good people will come along and build it back. God bless.

“We went into the evening confident we had a good path to victory,” said one senior adviser. “I don’t think there was one person who saw this coming.”

I saw it before he had the Republican nomination... as did many.

‘bout time somebody spoke the truth. I am tired of the politically correct crap and limiting freedom of speech because we might “offend” somebody.

and people with opinions like yours will hold responsibility for the next 4 years.

I beg to differ. After he sewed up the nomination, I pretty much kept my opinions to myself. And I even went out and voted for the jackass, although I find it very difficult to vote for someone who is a proven gay marriage pioneer and taxpayer funded abortion as "healthcare" supporter.

Don't blame me. Blame the jackasses who rigged the primaries so we got a candidate almost as liberal as Obama.

No point blaming the millions of voters who stayed home, because they thought Romney was worse than McCain (who beat Romney out in 2008). Blame the jerks who keep giving us these lousy candidates.

Cry me a river Mittens, you slimed and attacked Newt to gain the GOP nomination and then played Mr. Nice Guy against the Chicago thug. Only nice guys finished dead in Chicago politics...

I recognized long ago we need a very large percentage majority vote to eke out a close win.

The elections were probably rigged from the start. The Media refused to report anything truthful about Obama’s failings.

I've always wondered why this guy wanted to run so badly. Well, he certainly conducted a "take no prisoners" primary campaign. And then Mr. Nice Guy showed up.

You know something . . . while I could be wrong, it's just theoretically possible that Romney might rethink his own ideology after this fiasco. He may consider becoming a genuine conservative.

Who knows? It happened to Richard Schweiker.
