Nassau and Suffolk counties announced Thursday that they are imposing "odd-even" gasoline rationing to ease congestion and frustration at filling stations.
The counties will join with New York City to impose the new system beginning at 5 a.m. Friday, in the wake of a shortage that began after superstorm Sandy hit the region.
Under the system, drivers with license plates ending in an even number will be able to purchase fuel only on even-numbered days and drivers with license plate numbers that end in an odd number will be able to purchase fuel only on odd-numbered days. License plates such as vanity plates that do not display numbers will be considered odd-numbered plates.

Hmmm... just like the Carter years.
Looks like Jimmy Carter got a second term after all.
Couldn’t happen to a better bunch...hope it goes to $15/gal WHEN they can even get it.

The Carter-zero comparison game ended last Tuesday.
zero is becoming more like an FDR, without the war (yet).
FDR was polarizing, from what I read. The old I don't know which side of the stamp to spit on joke.
Both blue -

Suffolk County: 50.8% voted for Obama

from the horses mouth:
Per a customer of mine in LI. Many gas stations still do not have electricity. Also, many of the tanks at gas stations were flooded with sea water. Many of the pumps need to be replaced because of sea water corrosion. There is plenty of fuel in the storage terminals. The problem is there are only 25-50% of the stations open for business as usual. Therefore, the long lines at the places that are open.
This will be harder to do in NY. In NJ all stations are full serve; that is not the case in NY.
They can hire a whole crew of gas station sheriffs to enforce it. Rent out some Black Panthers maybe? NY has pretty much unlimited money, right?

All that's missing are the Bee Gees and leisure suits.
LOL! Yes, and sanity.
“Couldnt happen to a better bunch...”

Why on earth would you say that?
People are hurting.
.
Yeah it is scary. Illinois has already come out and asked for federal guarantees of stunningly underfunded state pensions, and with Baraq winning, I’m sure NY and Cali will be right behind.
My grandfather always referred to him as "that idiot roosevelt".
At least when I was present ... Don't know what word he used in place of "idiot" when kids weren't around.
It would be nice to have the odd number and get privileges two days in a row between December/January and January/February. Maybe they’re hoping to solve the problem before February.
I see the Jimmy Carter, gas rationing plan is being reinstated.
