No insult intended here - but for non-STL folks - Soulard is an urban-yuppie-rehab kind of place (historic neighborhood in St. Louis), so that observation is to be expected.

Do you're six friends realize they voted for a meth-head?
There's no evidence that Dine is a meth-head.
Their votes will be instrumental in giving us six more years of Ma McCaskill. Great...
That's probably why the Democrats helped choose Akin in the first place. I supported Steelman in the primary because I already believed Akin was an idiot. I honestly didn't expect him to screw up that badly. My wife is a rape survivor and I can't vote for Akin. My friends are 50% long-time Libertarians and 50% Republicans who share my disgust with Akin.

If McCaskill wins by less that the number of votes Dine got, I'm sure we'll feel a little guilty, but not as guilty as if we sent Akin to represent us in the Senate.

Unfortunately, you are correct. Lots of knee-jerk cliche liberals here.

Any word from South and West County (Todd Akins old Congressional Seat)?

We live in Akin’s old district. Lines are longer than 2008.

Actually Dine himself admitted to police that he used pot regularly but also using meth and cocaine. FOX4KC.com Sept.17,2012 reported this.

Multiple convictions. Identity theft. Drugs. Theft. DWI.

I was a Steelman supporter as well. But no point in surrendering seat to Air-Claire and her love of Obi-Care. And that's exactly what a vote for anyone other than Akin will lead to...

I stand corrected! I had just read about the marijuana bust.

Newsflash: Romney has already telegraphed that Obamacare isn't going anywhere. It might be amended, but not repealed. We've gotten so spun up about defeating Democrats that we've forgotten who we've got on our team. Romney is a liberal. We knew he was a liberal during the primaries. We knew he invented Obamacare. We knew he supported abortion. We knew he signed gun bans into law. We knew he legalized gay marriage. Having Todd Akin in the Senate isn't going to change that, and frankly, Akin is dangerously stupid.

Jonathan Dine has a strong position on 2nd Amendment rights and 10th Amendment rights. He's opposed to Obamacare, taxes and regulations. I don't like his position on abortion and I'm not thrilled with his position on gay marriage, but you can't get everything you want in a candidate.

If you remember 2000's "October surprise," George W. Bush also had a DUI. Yeah, that was bad, but he didn't drive off a bridge and drown his date, so we got over it. I voted for Bush in 2000, and I'm not going to pretend that a DUI is suddenly a show-stopper for me. You know what's a show-stopper for me? Not knowing how rape works.

Many, many things Romney can do, as well as a Republican Senate to "change" Obi-Care. But there is no chance of doing this with Ma in the Senate.

Akin is and has been strong on RKBA. Rated 'A' by GOA for years now. Ma rated F.

The DUI thingy doesn't mean much to me.As long as he didn't kill anyone while trying to get home.

Akin favors tax reform. Ma doesn't. List goes on and on and has been discussed here a thousand times.

You're 100% correct. But what will Romney actually do? He's said a lot of things, but considering what he thought was a good idea in Massachusetts, I don't see him repealing Obamacare.
But there is no chance of doing this with Ma in the Senate.
I don't think McCaskill will be the deciding factor here, I think it will be Romney. Romney bragged about how he worked with a legislature that was 87% Democrat. You know how you do that? You make your policies 87% liberal. One vote in the Senate is not going to change the guy who wields the pen in the Oval Office.

I'm not dismissing your views. It wasn't an easy decision for me or my friends in Springfield to support Dine. Also, we'll see if Dine's votes cost Akin the election. Current polling suggests he'd lose in a 2-way race. It's my opinion that a strong 3rd-party turnout will help convince the GOP-E to support better candidates. I find it hard to believe that no one in the MO GOP-E knew that Akin was getting support from the Democrats.

Romney had no choice but to work with the legislature. It was Massachusetts.

Ma's vote was the deciding factor first time around for Obi-Care.

She will back Barrack on his plan to implement major new anti-gun legislation.

I would actually support Dine over Ma McCaskill were he the only other choice. But he has absolutely no chance of winning. The Libertarian candidate in 2006 got approx. 47K votes out of 2 million plus votes cast.

The reality of the situation is there are 2 candidates running with any chance of victory. Akin is the only choice for conservatives. RKBA types. etc.etc. McCaskill is the antithesis of all things conservative...

I don't recall where she landed in to queue, but the final hold-out Democrat was Ben Nelson. Remember the "Conhusker Kickback" he secured in exchange for his vote?

If you're going to cast your vote based on who has the best chance of winning, then vote for Obama because the polls are giving him the edge. No, sometimes you have to cast your vote based on who you believe represents you best.
McCaskill is the antithesis of all things conservative...
I could argue that Romney is worse than McCaskill in that respect and we all voted for him (I hope). I think Romney will have better economic policies than Obama, but I don't expect him to stand up for conservative values. He hasn't before.

I live in south St. Louis County. 40s and a little rainy today. Just got back from voting. Steady stream of voters all day at my polling place, I'm told, very heavy this morning.

Romney will win Missouri easily. Don't know if Akin can squeak by. Maybe, maybe not.

Does anyone have opinions on Prop A and Prop E?

I voted NO on Prop A. St. Louis City is too corrupt to handle it.

Vote YES on Prop E. It would block implementation of Obamacare.

Ma's vote was 60th vote (to invoke cloture -Obamacare).

Not merely voting for who has best chance of winning. Cast my vote for the one closest to my views. And Akin is FAR closer to my views than Mother McCaskill.

I was a $trong Steelman supporter. But she lost. I would have voted for Brunner second, even though he spent $9 million of his own $ to destroy Steelman. But he lost. Akin was the one left standing.

As far as Romney? He was not even on my radar screen a year ago. I voted for Santorum. But Romney won so I voted for him. But he doesn't make me warm all over. But Romney is one hell of a lot better than the Imposter from Mombasa...

Voted this morning in south St Louis (Ward 12, Pr. 1) near the River des Peres boundary.

It was about 8am and there was probably only a dozen people there-very quiet. Hard to say if it's much of a GOP ward, formerly Gephardt's district, then Carnahans, and now given to Lacy Clay.

Hopefully, most of the Dems are staying home, and the right thinking people will vote after work.

“and the right thinking people will vote after work.”

I agree! There’s probably going to be a surge in Republican votes after 5 PM in each respective time zone.

Voted in Franklin County around 11AM. Good turnout for a small town, but it is a bedroom community and a lot of union retirees. Most of the towns politicos are libs. I expect that to be reflected in our towns tally. On the whole, the county should ultimately be red.
