Who Are You? - My children's future may depend on your answer
The American Spectator ^ | November 6, 2012 | Ross Kaminsky

.........Who are you, Mr. or Mrs. Likely Voter? And what does America mean to you?

Are you a "Progressive" who believes, as Barack Obama does, that our Constitution, our society's rulebook (even if apparently officiated by replacement referees these days), is "political witchcraft" (Woodrow Wilson) designed to create a "supremacy for the rich and powerful" (Howard Zinn) which should only be supported by a president "as he understands it" (Franklin Roosevelt)?

Or are you a proud American who believes, as I do, that the Constitution "is the only safeguard of our liberties" (Abraham Lincoln), that freedom is being taken from us "by gradual and silent encroachments" (John Marshall), that "the Constitution is colorblind, and neither knows nor tolerates classes among citizens" (John Marshall again) and that an important defense against "abuses of Constitutional power" is to "inform (Americans') discretion by education" (Thomas Jefferson)?

Do you believe, as Barack Obama does, that there is a "right" to health care or a "living wage" or anything else which must be demanded or extracted from others with an implicit threat of force?

Or do you believe, as the Founders did and as I hope Mitt Romney at least feels in his gut, that our fundamental laws are the codification of natural and "negative" rights? To wit, we have rights as human beings (not just as citizens) regarding actions that the government may not take against us or allow others to take against us, rather than commands regarding what others must do for us........

Mitt Romney may not have been most Republicans' idea of the perfect candidate. Indeed he was not mine. But my enthusiasm for a Romney victory is so strong that I will, for the first time in at least twenty years, vote Republican (rather than Libertarian; I've never voted for a Democrat) for president.........

Randy Barnett: The Mistake That Is the Libertarian Party "................................Libertarians need to adjust their tactics to the current context. This year, their highest priority should be saving the country from fiscal ruin, arresting and reversing the enormous growth in federal power—beginning with repealing ObamaCare—and pursuing a judiciary who will actually enforce the Constitution. Which party is most likely to do these things in 2013?

Citing the Republican Congress under George W. Bush, some libertarians contend that divided government is best for liberty. Yes, divided government is good for stopping things (until some grand deal is made). But divided government won't repeal ObamaCare and Dodd-Frank or give us better judges.

Libertarian activists need to set aside their decades-old knee-jerk reactions to the two major parties, roll up their sleeves, and make the Republican and Democratic parties more libertarian. When it comes to voting, libertarians need to get serious about liberty and give up on the Libertarian Party. Nov. 6 would be a good day to start."

I found this article dismal on so many levels (like all 3 definitions of dismal).

Do not suggest to me we have to adapt to and adhere to elements of somebody Else’s agenda for the common good when the aggregate expression of our vote is to advance our own agenda.

The idea stated is as horrible as Obama’s revenge comment.

“Next Tuesday all of you will go to the polls, will stand there in the polling place and make a decision. I think when you make that decision, it might be well if you would ask yourself, are you better off than you were four years ago?

Is it easier for you to go and buy things in the stores than it was four years ago? Is there more or less unemployment in the country than there was four years ago? Is America as respected throughout the world as it was? Do you feel that our security is as safe, that we’re as strong as we were four years ago?

And if you answer all of those questions yes, why then, I think your choice is very obvious as to whom you will vote for.

If you don’t agree, if you don’t think that this course that we’ve been on for the last four years is what you would like to see us follow for the next four, then I could suggest another choice that you have.

This country doesn’t have to be in the shape that it is in. We do not have to go on sharing in scarcity with the country getting worse off, with unemployment growing.

We talk about the unemployment lines. If all of the unemployed today were in a single line allowing two feet for each of them, that line would reach from New York City to Los Angeles, California.

All of this can be cured and all of it can be solved. .... I know that the economic program that I have proposed for this nation in the next few years can resolve many of the problems that trouble us today.....

I would like to have a crusade today, and I would like to lead that crusade with your help. And it would be one to take Government off the backs of the great people of this country, and turn you loose again to do those things that I know you can do so well, because you did them and made this country great. Thank you.” - Ronald Reagan, October 28, 1980

Mitt used a line at each of his recent rallie...reminicent of Reagan’s “take government off the backs of the great American people and turn you loose again to do those things you do so well” line.

He’s been saying, “Paul Ryan and I will limit government instead of limiting your dreams”.

Anyone from Nebraska? I stopped following politics after the primary-lost interest. I’m looking for a pro-life/pro-family voter guide-additional info- on judges and amendments?

Great speech by Reagan, bad article by American Thinking/spectator whichever one it was.

Most people never think in terms of “whats good for this country”, and when they do, they are often times divergent with our own thinking of what’s good for this country.

Obama care sucks agreed, I would rather have seen nationalization of the entire insurance industry. I don’t want a government that mandates I buy something that makes somebody else a profit.
