NewsBusters ^ | 03 November 2012 | Tom Blumer

"We don’t need it," Mayor Bloomberg said on Wednesday during a press update on the city’s ongoing Hurricane Sandy cleanup. "The NYPD is the only people we want on the street with guns."

It’s quite frankly amazing and alarming how incompetent most law enforcement agencies are about their firearms training.

I dunno. I sorta get a warm fuzzy from it, considering the current political situation.

Bloomie and many other New Yorkers are truly phobic and irrational about guns. It's probably a big city thing.

I know they live in a different world, just wish they would leave my world alone.

The real estate moguls want to get their mitts on Coney Island. Been for years.

Cops are letting the looters take what they want. It’s destroying businesses, which fits the narrrative.

Sending the guard there stops all of this, however if someone does get shot by a guardsmen, Coney Island will erupt. Doesn’t help Democrats.

If they shoot a goblin they will end up behind bars.

Only if they get caught.

Well, as long as there are no riots and rampages, then this is no big deal.

Maybe New York City folks really are more civilized than the rest of the country. They aren’t allowed to have firearms in the city, right?

I don’t understand the logic of Bloomers here.

The south is full up...especially Florida. No room left for New Yorkers in Red Hampshire, either. Plenty of room in the Catskills and Adirondacks, though...

Something smells about this story.
The National Guard is the State Police. As Christy proved yesterday, State Police trumps city police in an emergency. What is Boomingidiot gonna do? Challenge him to a duel?

A lot of NYC attitude about guns has to do with relative proximity to potential targets.

There's over a million and a half people who live on Manhattan Island and during the workday more millions show up.

The island's extent is just under 23 square miles.

There are a gazillion and a quarter plate glass double paned windows in the city.

This is one of the most densely crowded spots on the planet.

It's fairly easy for them to argue against bringing in high powered firearms, or any projectile weapons at all ~ but they are also aghast at the idea someone might want to protect themselves with a burst of electricity, or maybe tear gas, or pepper spray.

That's where we need to draw the line on this crowd. A federal law should be passed that protects the general public against governments that restrict defensive weaponry, or swords.

Swords are good ~ they usually don't break windows on the 30th floor ~ and almost anyone can be trained to use one safely ~ more or less.

No reason New Yorkers should be forced by their tyrants to go about disarmed.

Bloomberg fears what all dictators fear - the military turning against him. Dictators prefer to hire mercenary palace guards to protect themselves, but dictators learn too late that when the money stops flowing, the mercenaries leave or are crushed by the army. Qaddhafi learned that the hard way and bet your boots that all the tinpot dictators took note and are craping in their pants.

A little known element of the Libyan civil war is that the elitist new world order was screaming for the UN to punish the Libyan army for turning against Qaddhafi and butchering his mercenary southern army who were killing the Libyan people. They wanted to make an example of the provincial militias and army that killed Qaddhafi’s nazi UN gang. It got quite gruesome. They were hanging bureaucrat elitists from lampposts in Tripoli and that scared the pants off the NWO. The chief commander of the army got dragged into the town square and had his brains blown out.

My, my, my...how interesting.

The Guardsmen should’ve said they were marathon runners.

I agree in principle that cops are better than guardmen. BUT, as you point out, NYPD is ill-prepared for real violence. Cops in general do not like to train.

I got my first training from WWII/Korea vets (USA and USMC) who also didn’t believe in wasting ammo. They also didn’t put up with excuses like “I don’t think this rifle is accurate enough...”

One classic response from a salty old Marine when I said there was something wrong with my rifle: “Son, there’s nothing wrong with that weapon that a new shooter won’t fix...”

“this has to be about unions and overtime etc etc...”

..could be - like the power company crews that were turned away.

Maybe the Guard so only approach as far as the City limits - and set a perimeter to keep the riff-raff in...

My buddy on Long Island wants me to send a pistol. It will be sent to a house in Jersey. He will go to Jersey to get it. I do not want to break any laws but he believes he needs it and I want to send it. Suggestions?
