This will likely not be a popular opinion but I suspect many here are thinking the same thing and are probably keeping quiet because we are so close to the election and we all desperately want to be rid of Obama (If you doubt that I feel that way check out my posting history).
The Marine who was on tonight essentially said that men & women in uniform everywhere believe that the fundamental tenet that our service people never leave anyone behind is under attack.
I understand that Romney is pursing what he believes is the best strategy to win, and he probably believes that talking about Benghazi introduces an element of risk that just isn't necessary at this point. He thinks he has it wrapped up. But, given the the seriousness of Obama's malfeasance, I believe that in order for Romney to behave with integrity and as a leader he must, at the bare minimum, let the people know that he understands the gravity of the situation and at least ask some very pointed and relevant questions. This situation demands it.
I defended Romney's liberal policies and actions in Mass. because I said he had to "go along to get along" in such a liberal state. But even when I said it what bothered me most about it is that we have someone who perhaps compromises his principles in order to get what he wants/needs. Now would be an excellent time, Mr. Romney, to demonstrate to conservatives and those in uniform that you will stand up for what is right regardless the consequences.
Romney is clearly dodging the issue. He thinks the economy will win him the election and other stuff are distractions. Plus he shot too soon and drew MSM attention to himself and now is gunshy.
If he loses he will look like just another stupid AH like McCain was.
The last thing Romney needs is the weekend before the election to be filled with media reports that he has made "wild, reckless, baseless" claims that the Obama administration was somehow running guns to Islamic terrorists and committing treason against this country. News like that might make a lot of Independents say "What a loon! I'm not voting for that guy! He's a nut!"
This is the third or fourth post I’ve answered regarding this. People are NOT thinking about what is involved here: CIA, intelligence, security, etc. This isn’t about Mitt, as another person mentioned on the OTHER “Mitt should speak out thread.” IF Mitt were to say anything the MSM would make Benghazi about the political race. This is more than that. Heroes died. They need to be vindicated.
Mitt has most likely been privy to intelligence briefings so anything he says might not be okay for speaking outloud. The info may have not been declassified yet.
We should know better...we complain about security leaks by Dems and then want Mitt to do the same.
It’s not that Romney doesn’t care or think that the Bengazi story is a huge scandal. It’s just that 90 percent of voters know so little of it (thanks to an absentee media) that it won’t resonate like the focus on the economy. Sad to say, but it probably didn’t test well with focus groups, and at this point, he’s better of expending time and energy on what has worked and continues to work. I can’t wait to evict Obama.
It won’t do his chances any good, and it will not bring anyone back to life. The moment he says something there will be two possible risks that those that only follow big media will see-
1) Romney is giving away secrets from his briefings - even if it is stuff available on any media outlet, if it is also stuff he was told in a meeting the press will ask for conservative outrage that they show when they claim Obama can’t keep a secret.
2) going back to the ‘leaks’. You know there is a great chance for an Obama positive ‘leak’ that refutes Romney simply because it is supposed to be a secret therefore the White House will neither confirm nor deny it and no one will be able to verify it.
Right now its a no win from Romney’s position.
I repeat, the most farcical thing I have seen in my 61 years on this Earth is the journalism community castigating Romney for not doing their job. Romney has been getting briefed on National Security matters and has to walk a very fine line here. He can not reveal briefing material because he has sworn not to. And it is not his job to do what a free press in a free country should be doing. The disgrace rests solely on the shoulders of journalists and I hope I live long enough to see them get their just due.
I think you answered your own question
He can’t address it now. The media is lined up hoping he’ll address it. That’s probably what Obama is praying for because he has to address it himself. Romney can’t take a chance right now. We’ll get him. The people who will vote for him wouldn’t hold him responsible even if Mitt said anything. Patience.

I have said this before, but in my devious mind I can see Mitt being intentionally fed intelligence about Benghazi so that he can't talk about it publicly. Do you think the left would think of that? I do. I'm sure David Axlerod, and Obama would.
this issue is not one that is easily communicated in a soap box speech to supporters.
IMO it’s best that this issue is talked about via surrogates on sit down news progs and Sunday shows for now. We just can’t risk one stupid voter or the media spinning his words against him. We don’t have the media on our side, except Fox.
but first thing Wed morning, I expect Romney to begin talking about this, explaining the situation to those who aren’t up to speed and get his ducks in a row to do something about The Traitor once he takes office. but he should convene an investigation starting Wednesday. No doubt.
Imagine a thumb pointed down.
Perhaps you could bring this up again.... next fing Wednesday.
I wouldnt say that. It’s all over facebook. and the nitwits have to see it.
The problem is that for all we or anyone else knows, Romney doesn’t see it as a significant issue or one worth discussing. I think he can bring it up without coming across as politicizing it. He simply needs to say that others have raised relevant questions that have a bearing on whether the Americans in Benghazi needlessly died and that those questions could be answered right NOW by the administration. Then tell us what the questions are.
I see it, too, that’s how those people act and think. I wish it wasn’t that way, but these are not normal times.
When he wins, the whole place needs a good cleaning of all the Clintonistas, Obamaites, and even some RINO Bushies.
Crowley shut him down when he was going for the Marxist’s throat, and he was smart enough to spot the trap Sheiffer laid out in the third debate.
What can he say now? Watch Fox News? It’s the only news outlet (cable channel) reporting on Benghazi. The alphabets are silent and cnn is reporting B.S.
Pray and hope for something to break BIG tomorrow.
yep.
Rule #1: When your opponent is busy digging himself into a hole, don’t interrupt him...
Romney is handling this exactly right. Note that he is not privy to classified intelligence reports. Anything he says would be conjecture and can easily be refuted and ridiculed by the Obama campaign.
Elected officials such as McCain, Ayotte, and others are already raising cain over this issue.
Lastly, most voters have no clue about details of Benghazigate.
Exactly "for all we or anyone else knows." You, as anyone else, do NOT KNOW if he sees it as being significant, or not. Just to answer THAT question: I am sure he sees it as majorly significant, but he CANNOT speak of it yet.
“Imagine a thumb pointed down.
Perhaps you could bring this up again.... next fing Wednesday.”
I understand the sentiment and believe me there isn’t anyone alive who wants to see Obama gone more than me, which is why this has created massive cognitive dissonance for me.
Bottom line for me is that its just too big and important for a leader to ignore and I think he can address it without having it blow up in his face.
Does anyone know if a president can be impeached after he's no longer in office? I want Nobama thrown in jail for the murder of americans and for all the corruption he and his administration have committed.
I don’t think making speeches about the issue will be helpful because the MSM will make Obama out to be the victim. I do believe that raising the issue indirectly through advertising, particularly SuperPAC advertising not tied to the Romney campaign, could be effective. Just have the father outlining events then asking “please join me in asking President Obama to come clean about what happened to my son”.
Re: the media salivating... There was a post earlier this week about yet ANOTHER media d-bag being caught on a hot mic waiting for Romney to say something “stupid”. They are all coiled like vipers (apologies to vipers everywhere) just waiting for the slightest chance to strike.
A recent example of them grasping at straws is the incident criticizing Romney for wanting to send foodstuffs to the victims of Sandy. The d-bag response was something along the lines of “what an idiot, they don’t need food, they (the Red Cross) need money”.
I’m of the mindset of baby steps to the elevator on this one. Get the job first and then get the job done. While I certainly understand the frustration about the lack of commentary on Romney’s part, I don’t think it’s wise to tamper with something that is about to blow sky high.
I’m thinking Romney can, if he says anything, must do it LOUD and LATE, as in Monday, when it is too late for msm to push back and to put it in the form of questions so that he is not making declarative statements but ticking off the accumulated leaks and asking, “Why?”.
A leader should not be cowed in the middle of a revolution, but strategic TIMING does matter. Just sayin’.
You do not realize that Romney has no access to CLASSIFIED TOP SECRET documents since he is not an elected official or government employee. Such documents are available only on must need basis.
I once had the Q clearance (top secret clearance), so I understand why Romney does not want to make conjecture statements not based on official documents. He can then be easily refuted and ridiculed by the Obama campaign.
Let elected officials such senators McCain, Ayotte & others handle this, which they are doing quite nicely.
[My 2 cents, modified from another thread.]:
“This wont get any play unless you make it an issue,” Romney.
On November Seven,
With your Clear Eye so bright,
Will you pause to ponder,
Could Benghazi have won the night?
Was there enough intelligence
To tell friend from foe?
Would Women be offended
If I did not go slow?
Oh me, - - - oh my,
Whatever should I have done?
To challenge ‘Benghazi’ Obama,
Or play it safe and fun?
What could I really do?
The polls were very close,
And now I can only ask:
What would Patton do?
Holy crap...
After he is out of office he is private citizen like us and can legally be prosecuted. Impeachment means removal from office.
You are dreaming, the Romney justice department will never go after Obama, anymore than GWBs did with Clinton. That is their code.
Lots of stuff would be released to the press though if Mit was to win. That would be fun for a while.
Romney is damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t...The democrats will accuse him of politicizing the deaths if he starts talking about it, and you know the media will gladly help the democrats get that line of attack out there...It is frustrating to see him remain quiet about it, but after seeing dems on fox attacking Romney for even mentioning it, I can see why he has chosen not to address the issue at this point...
Romney knows what he is doing. Right now the info on the Embassy attack is scattered and I am betting the Republicans are telling him to lay low on it and let them do the talking and I must say they are doing a good job. They know the msm will not touch it as long as Romney is not talking. Just wait and see what happens if Mitt is elected.
Just wait and see what happens if Mitt is elected.
"If" is too hypothetical.
I do hope this all comes out after the election (if Bambi loses it will), the political cowardice of Bambi, the treasonous no reportem media, all need to go far far away and bury themselves.
If Romney wins and we get the senate, the next thing we have to do as conservatives and tea partiers is take down the MSM aka democrats with bylines. If we don't another one worse than Bambi will be elected by them down the road and finish us off for good.
I agree, the way to approach this in a manner that provides for the least risk is to simply ask questions. By doing so, you let people know that YOU consider it a significant issue. And it would be more difficult for the press to ignore it.
Could it be possible that Obama has laid a trap and is just waiting for Romney to wade in so he can snatch victory from the jaws of defeat? In a word, no.
If what happened were any less important I would say sit on it until after the election. But it is HUGE, and because that is the case I think he diminishes himself by not addressing it. He just looks too damn calculating by not saying anything about such a monumental coverup. He is in effect empowering the administration’s and media’s coverup.
Um, he has (albeit with slightly different words)...
THIS IS NOT ABOUT MITT!
Don't be stupid, don't make it about Mitt.
Let Mitt be Mitt, he does that job better than anyone else!
Those who care about this issue already know about this issue. If Romney speaks up about it it will take the heat OFF of Obama.
When your enemy is walking off a cliff, GET OUT OF THE WAY!
Oh f*ck. A Romney-hater doing threadjumping with a phony issue.
I think he can and should say, “he promised you all the most transparent administration ever, well, obamacare was written behind closed doors and passed in the dead of night by only his party with tricky rules, and recents events in the Middle East, namely Libya tell you otherwise.”
I promise you as your president and CIC, this nefarious type of conduct will never happen on my watch. You will have the most transparent administration. Paul Ryan and I are upfront and family guys, just like you all.
Now onto victory! God bless you all and God bless America!
Something like that, said on Monday
Good point, what is that rodent Karl Rove doing except trying to look like he knows what he's talking about on FNC? What is Crossroads doing?
Has your Senator and Congressman addressed the issue? Unlike Mitt Romney, they are elected officials.
I understand your concerns over the risk, but it makes my head spin that a travesty has occurred and we aren’t suppose to say anything because of media meanies.
This is war, and silence from Romney is getting as embarrassing as Obama’s silence is outrageous.
Risk aversion is exactly why Republicans have lost the country.
Answers to your concerns can be found here.
Lots of GREAT info!
Romney is letting Obama off the hook on Benghazi

Translation : “BLA-BLA-BLA” .
Agree. Farcical.
Security briefings, yes, you have a very good point.
My HO is that 1) Romney cannot opine on this as it has not become general knowledge to the majority of the voters. It has not, and he just cannot inform them- they won’t believe him, who can believe this?- it’s just not his role at the moment, whether that’s convenient to his campaign or not.
and 2) Romney is not in charge. He is applying for the job, he is simply not in charge.
About my first point: Mara Liasson (I Don’t know how to spell her name) complained that Mitt had not spoken on this. That’s all I need to know. SHE is not there to give him advice; so what did she say that for? A- to set him up, B- to attack him on it from whatever angle possible as ordered and C- to deflect the job/lack thereof away from herself and her liberal media colleagues.
Mitt is not as stupid as they pretended he is.
That makes them just crazy.
The most important reason, other than perhaps security, is that it will not help Mitt with the voters he’ll need, and it may hurt him tremendously.
Mitt is just not a gambler. Let’s let him get into office and jump at him them.
Benfgazi I misspelled that, Benghazi is a mess. It will never go away. I said it on Sept 11, “Hello,! the ambassador was just killed!”. He is equivalent to a four-star general.
These people do not have enough sense to respect that. They will, though.
Won’t mention that they DO keep messing with our beloved, dear special ops guys.
BO’s lame duck session will be filled with rats performing final daredevil dives off the bus and congressional hearings. Darn, they were so hoping to blame Mitt. Good.
OK.
See you all on the other side of this. I think the campaign is over but a few rallies.
And if he wins, he won't, unlike yourself this very moment.
Re: what is that rodent Karl Rove doing except trying to look like he knows what he’s talking about on FNC? What is Crossroads doing?
American Crossroads: “Intelligence”
Here’s the thing - many of the responses assume that the situation re the media and the people is static. That does not necessarily have to be the case. A leader leads by having the confidence in him/herself to 1) know what is right 2) and be able to convince others to follow his lead. This is what Reagan did.
There is no question the media and Obama would attempt to crucify Romney if he attacked on this issue. But Romney has what very few Republicans will ever have, he has the bullypulpit. They can’t ignore him. If he holds a press conference, they have to cover it.
I’m pretty cynical, but I also believe that there are alot of people who are completely sick of the lying media and lying politicians and who would respond well to someone who calls a spade a spade in very blunt terms (BTW, this is one of the reasons he won the first debate).
That was implied by my point.
Weren't you chasing that Palin 2012 bus for a while?
What happened to that? Did she slam on the breaks and you ran into it head on?
So lets see, Palin...Romney.,,mum on Benghazi...
HMMM
