Record turnouts for early voting lift Obama campaign's hopes in Florida
Tampa Bay Times ^

The Obama campaign seems quite happy after record turnouts were reported in counties across Florida today, the first day of early voting.
The Times' Adam Smith reported on Twitter, "More than 20k pple voted eary today so far in Hillsborough Co...In 08 biggest single day (11/1/08) was 18,736.
The Miami Herald's Marc Caputo tweeted, "Miami-Dade early voting so heavy that by 3 pm 14,745 people voted -- more than ENTIRE first day of 08 EV (12,000). 12-hour total: 22,625."
Gary Fineout of the Associated Press, "Leon County - a Democratic stronghold in Fla - had a record turnout for early voting with 5447 votes cast on day 1."
Democrats typically have an advantage with early voting, but Republicans have been putting a higher emphasis on its turnout effort this time. On Sunday, Democrats will focus on getting out the black vote, with a "Souls to the Polls" drive.

How many more “DEMS ARE GONNA WIN THIS YEAR DUE TO EARLY VOTING TURNOUT” threads you going to make?
To: frogjerk
“Souls to the Polls” huh? Sounds almost
macabre and ghoulish, yet ironically symbolic. Going in to vote for their own slow suicides.
To: frogjerk
"Souls to the Polls" drive That's pretty damn sick. They are admitting that the dead are voting now? Talk about coming "out of the shadows".

If it's Dem strongholds like Miami-Dade, you might as well assume that ≥90% of the voters were there to vote for Ø.

New election, same lame ass Dem spin. Early voting is always pro Dem. They need as many days as possible to get their lazy ass voters to the polls.
It is irrelevant to outcomes but EVERY election year the Democrat propaganda machine hypes the early voting.

MSM is desperate - the One must be saved at all costs!
These headlines are pathetic - but listen to this:
Obama's Information Minister declares:

"Dear friends, do not worry - we are going to see a come from behind victory happen in Florida! The Republicans have been lying to you! Our early voting turnout is great. Victory is in sight and Allah willing - the President will serve another four years in the White House!"

This is a whole of nothun' but wishful thinking by dems...
...record turnouts were reported in counties across Florida today, the first day of early voting.
So if it is a big statewide turnout, how does that help Obama again?
The Times' Adam Smith reported on Twitter, "More than 20k pple voted eary today so far in Hillsborough Co...In 08 biggest single day (11/1/08) was 18,736
And Hillsborough County usually goes GOP. It did go for Obama in '08 but perhaps many who are voting early can't wait to wash that bad taste of their mouths this time, along with people who never voted for the bum in the first place.
The other counties are heavy dem counties, but so what? Does it say it was dems mostly voting? What about the heavy GOP counties? Doesn't mention them, but does say the record turnout was stateside, so why focus on mostly dem counties? Could it be because that's the way this reporter/paper want it to read? Gee, who has the Times endorsed?
Without hesitation, The Tampa Bay Times recommends Barack Obama for re-election...

The article says that Republicans were also putting a greater emphasis on early voting - there are huge numbers of Republicans in highly populated Democrat strongholds as well...record turnout does not mean the Democrats have any greater advantage.

Exactly! The reason McCain lost isn't because he didn't get out the early vote, it was because fewer people voted for him.
This time more people are going to vote for Romney-period.

Nobody. ;>)
I voted early today for the first time in my life.
I always vote, in every election I can, and have done so for over 35 years. A few times I was unable to secure a ballot, when I was stationed overseas.
Every year, every election, without fail, as a civilian I have voted in person, on election day
I am a registered Republican.
Since I am a Florida voter, and voted today in Florida, I can tell you I see no reason for the Obama campaign to get excited about the record turnout.
Long lines, quiet and respectfull crowd.
It reminded me of waiting in line at Chick-fill-A in August.
No big drama, just making our silent voices heard. Loudly.

I'm just telling you what I saw. What it means is we better get out and vote.
Those people were idiots to stand in that long line. They have until Nov. 3rd to vote early.

What difference does it make whether they voted yesterday, today, or a week from this coming Tuesday?
A vote is a vote, and these would almost all be hard core committed voters of either stripe...unless thy’re planning on voting early, and often.

I never understood why anything is made of early voting trends since a vote is a vote no matter if it is placed on election day or a week or month before. The people who vote early are IMO the die hard partisans or else as someone here mentioned the angry people who want to send a message.
