Was the attack on Benghazi an "October Surprise" gone bad?
JEFFHEAD.COM ^ | 19 October 2012 | Jeff Head

Posted on 10/19/2012 8:09:15 AM PDT by Jeff Head

Folks, is it possible that the gruesome murder of our Ambassador in Benghazi was acutally the beginnings of an October surprize gone horribly awry?

I believe that somehow, because of all the unanswered questions there...because of the unbelievably chaotic and rushed manner in which the Obama administration tried to cover it up...and continued to cover it up well past all rational thinking would indicate that they were doing ss...and because of just common sense questions, questions like:

  1. Why were new security requests for Benghazi denied after two recent attacks, one by an IED in June that left a 40ft whole in the wall?
  2. Why were the security teams they had in Benghazi removed in August, just a few weeks before the attack?
  3. Why was a U.S. Ambassador who had indicated he feared for his life and was seeking more security, sent to Benghazi, the hotbed for anti-Americanism, on the 11th Anniversyary of 911 (and the 11th anniversary of any event in Islam is considered "Holy") with no US security team?
  4. Why did 12 command centerss watch the attack on Benghazi unfold for SIX HOURS and not mount a relief attempt from Tripoli with helos, or from potential US NAvy vessels in the Med? A helo traveling at 150 MPH can go a good distance in 6 hours, so can an F-18 traveling at Mach 1.
  5. Finally, what was the relationship of Ambassador Stevens to the Gitmo releasess and groups he was heading during the Libyan revolution when Stevens was the US envoy working with these groups? Was Stevens secretly sent there to meet with those groups? Was the whole thing a setup?
Could it be (either through Libyan government sources, or even our own) that the terrorists knew that the security had been taken away in Benghazi? I believe they hoped to kidnap the Ambassador in an easy smash and grab operation against an essentially undefended compound and then try and negotiate a trade; Stevens for the blind shiek.

Tragically, there very well could have been people in our own government who knew about all of this.

Could it be that an "October Surprize" is what was really "supposed" to happen in Benghazi after the kidnapping. We would have seen an outraged Obama, stoked up and rightously indignant over this, on National TV claiming it would not be tolerated and that we would secure the release of Stevens. He would maybe even have "suspended his campaign to deal with it...for all Americans to see.

Then October would have been full of "that" story, and you can bet it would invariably lead to a Stevens release just before the election.

But because a couple of US Navy SEALS happened to be there contracted out on another unrelated State Department matter, and because a couple of other personnel (possibly CIA personnel) put up one hell of a fight against overwhelming odds...holding them off for 6 hours...that the terrorist plan (and potentially the entire "surprize") went bad.

The attackers got mad when many of their own were killed and wounded and they ended up killing Stevens and the SEALS and the other fellow that got seperated from the main group (who escaped...and whom alll should be carefully questioned regarding what they saw and heard) when they caught them.

Thus what was supposed to be a great “moment” for Obama in an arranged “tough” negotiation to “save” Ambassador Stevens (who himself would have had no clue about any of this and would never have gone along with it), turned into a gruesome murder instead.

Precisely because this was so horrible for America. Precisely because these questions remain unanswered. Presicely because 12 operations centers saw this in real time and no help was attempted. Presicely because of the umitigated lies, deceptions, and now cover-up of this administration. This entire affair should actually be absolutely front page news in the whole country until it is resolved, campaigns or not.

We have American blood on the ground and we potentially have those amongst us who at the very least are covering it up for political purposes because it does not fit their narrative...or who, at the worst may have helped to arrange it in an effort to create a new political narrative just before the election.

The WH was expecting a hostage.

The fact they tied Obama to the hip of Jimmy Carter during the dem convention wasn't just a coincident, it was part of the preparation for the attack, just like the protest of the video in Egypt were part of the attack, it was a diversion.

In the immortal word of UBL to Mullah Omar “the news is 90% of the preparation for the battle”.

You want to know what happened, you got to look at the orchestrated news stories before the attack.

Every single employee of us, We the People, in DC, if they participated in any part of this , needs walking papers and to be stripped of their pensions. Those coordinating this need to be in front of a judge. Period.

Agreed. A straight up attack is entirely plausible, without complexity of inept conspiracy. Leftists see total disarmament as sensible diplomatic policy, and deployment of force only acceptable during an attack.

That said, conspiracy to induce kidnapping is not rediculous. They’re stupid enough to try it, thinking it little more than theater.

I would argue you are overthinking it.

The Lt Col who testified before Congress said that they attacked and drove out the Brits and others and ours was the last flag standing. The attack was a certainty. The question was when.

Then there is the Major Burns effect. Like Major Frank Burns, the bureaucrats in DC followed the book in the face of common sense indicating strong out of the book action was required. There was direct testimony naming names to that effect

The Congressional testimony is the closest thing to the truth we have available.

Based on what I saw in the Brett Baer special tonight ....I think we can discard "the attempted hostage gone bad"" theory.

Agreed. Jeff, the post you linked indicated no attempt at a live abduction. When they broke out the diesel after they couldn't get into the safe room, that theory died.

The facts on the table are so bad for Obama you really don’t need to stretch the narrative.

While that is true, remember that if Bush ever even APPEARED to possibly have stumbled, the lib media machine would ask the same kinds of questions on the front page above the fold and before the first commercial, ascribing the most devious, evil motives to what happened.

If the questions cannot be answered, they deserve to be asked. There are more lies from this administration just on this one issue than Nixon ever dreamed of telling.

We’ve got 90-year-old ladies having the choice between being scanned nude or having a rectal exam, just to get on an airplane.... and yet we “overlook” a 40-foot hole blown into the wall of our consulate in the most dangerous part of Libya?

Wow, do you have a way with words! How true.

I don’t believe Obama will show up Monday (or something really Big will happen before then), because they have to give Romney a few seconds to say something, and all he has to do is ask some questions like this. They can’t cut him off that fast.

I mostly agree. See my post 79.

However, from the narrative it is not apparent that the tangos knew that the Ambassador and others were in the safe room. They may have though that no one was left in the building and so they torched it.

We just do not know on that score.

If they knew they were in there and wanted to kill them, why not toss a couple of granades in there?

It copuld be they thought the Ambassador had already excaped and sop just burned the building.

On another note.
Watch this video of testimony exchange between the bureaucrats in Washington DC and the lead Security Officers on the ground in Libya. It is simply amazing...and shameful.

The lead security officer in all of Libya for the US Government sums it up be saying, when referring to his Washingto DC support managers whom he had to ask for additiona security that he felt like, “The Taliban is in the building.” Meaning in the US government.

This disaster in Benghazi reminds me in so many ways of the fall of Lima Station 85 in Laos, 1968. All warnings of impending doom ignored by higher-ups. Ambassador Sullivan refused to believe the mile high radar installation in danger of attack/capture. In fact it was attacked...and captured.

Sigonella AFB on Sicily is not that far from Benghazi. During Op Unified Protector (the bombing of Libya by NATO) there were aircraft parked bumper to bumper. Most have returned to their host countries but there are still NATO aircraft there. We have carriers in the Med. Sea. Yet these brave men died alone. Shocking. Disgraceful.

The piece says that they attempted to attack the safe room and could not penetrate it. So they had to know that it was a refuge and somebody was there. Hence, the conclusion that such a redoubt might not house the ambassador would be illogical. The shape of the hallway would have precluded the effectiveness of all but a gas grenade.

Actuallyt, I thought the FoxNews special said simply that they tried to get in the door but were unable to.

It says clearly that teh special agent had a gun trained towards the terrorists should he need it...but he never fired. I believe they werre hunkered in back there and that the tangos tried to break in, but were unable.

I do not think they knew the ambassador was in there or they would have either brought in something ehavier to get the door down, tossed grenades (if it were their intent to kill him), or waite dlonger for more support. As it is, they simply burned the building.

It is not clear that they knew someone was in there from this report.

An interview with that Speical Agent would clear it up. One day he or some of the others will write a book...which I will most cetainly buy and read.

I suspect the MSM will try to avoid, evade, ignore, postpone, in whatever way they can, but this is not going away, and it will only get worse.

This is just going to keep boiling over right on through the election, bleeding (D) votes all the way.

It would restore people's faith in our system were we to ever see justice done to our commie traitors, just once.
