After embarrassing herself with her incompetently biased attempt to “fact check” GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney during the second presidential debate, CNN correspondent Candy Crowley has already began trying to save her shattered credibility. In a panel discussion afterward, a fast-talking Crowley tried to spin away her offensive conduct by admitting that Romney was indeed correct in casting blame on the Obama Administration for falsely blaming an anti-Islamic video for attacks on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya.
“It was one of those moments, and I could even feel that here, you know, when you say something you’re not expecting,” Crowley insisted, admitting she simply couldn’t help herself from unprofessionally inserting herself into a heated dispute that Obama and Romney were having. Video and transcript below the fold.
“He was right in the main, I just think he picked the wrong word,” Crowley said, echoing the extremely legalistic reading of the facts about what President Obama meant when he said “acts of terror” in reference to the Benghazi attack.
Knowing that she is facing a tremendous amount of backlash for her outburst, Crowley tried to play down the Libya discussion in the debate, insisting it wasn't really important:
"They’re going to parse and we all know about what the definition of is is, but, I, uh, you know, in the end, I think John [King]’s probably right. I think this has a lot more to with jobs and the debt crisis and all of that kind of stuff.
If her unprofessional conduct had not been so highly visible, Crowley's sad attempts to excuse herself would be amusing since she's almost literally admitted she has a knee-jerk liberal bias. Instead they are only ironic.
Full transcript of Crowley's remarks is below:
CANDY CROWLEY: Well, you know, I heard the president speak at the time. I, sort of, reread a lot of stuff about Libya because I knew we’d probably get a Libya question so I kind of wanted to be up on it. So I knew that the president had, had, said, you know, these acts of terror won’t stand or, whatever the whole quote was.
And I think actually, you know because, right after that I did turn around and say, but you’re totally correct that they spent two weeks telling us this was about a tape and that that there was a, you know, this riot outside the Benghazi consulate which there wasn’t.
So he was right in the main, I just think he picked the wrong word. And I, you know, they’re going to parse and we all know about what the definition of is is, but, I, uh, you know, in the end, I think John [King]’s probably right. I think this has a lot more to with jobs and the debt crisis and all of that kind of stuff.
I just think that probably it was one of those moments and I could even feel that here, you know, when you say something you’re not expecting. It’s just that was the natural thing coming out of me going, ‘Actually he did, you know, call it an act of terror.’ Uh, when, you know, half the crowd clapped for that and the other half clapped for ‘But they kept telling us this was a tape, this was caused by a tape’ so, you know, in the main, the thrust of what Governor Romney was saying, which is why I went back and said that, um, but I just think he picked the wrong kind of way to go about talking about it if that makes sense.
Gravitas, as in heroic fight against gravity?
“So I knew that the president had, had, said, you know, these acts of terror won’t stand...”
Uhh, NO. The demonstrative “these” was NOT used. In fact, the demonstrative “this” was used by Obama on 9/12 only to refer to a response to an offensive video. “This senseless violence,” was the term, and the context was that offensive speech does not justify it.
In other words, on 9/12, Obama characterized the attack as a spontaneous reaction to the video.
The record speaks for itself. Carney, Rice, Clinton, and Obama tried for two weeks to deny it was terrorism.
How do people like Crowley, people so sloppy with the English language, ever make it to national television? You have to wonder what the standards are.
I have not looked at MSNBC on this, but I would guess they would defend Crowley, saying that Obama’s “No acts of terror will ever shake the resolve of this great nation...” on Sept. 12 must have referred to the Benghazi attack.
But then after that, O and his minions kept talking about the notorious anti-muslim video (and Crowley agreed with Romney on that).
Maybe when he said “No acts of terror...” O was trying to have it both ways, both “respectful of muslim sensibilities” by being vague about what he meant, and also able to say he called it an “act of terror.”
And she can’t help herself when she sees candy, cake, ice cream, and any desert.
You got it wrong, Crowley. You screwed up the debate. Own it.
On the other hand, no great loss.
Romney was in the process of setting Obama up on the terror call on Lybia. He was making sure he had it down that Obama was on record as calling it terrorism initially, by his own admission, and then was going to absolutely ream him on the following two weeks of a changed story when the UN Ambassador went out, when Obama himself went out, when Hillary went out, Jake Harney and so many others and insisted that it was because of that video...and then ask him simply, why?
Why did you change your story, Mr. President? Why did you mislead and lie to the American people for two weeks? Could it have been political? It sure looks like it to the rest of us.
It would have been a great stroke...but the moderator derailed it. That’s what really happened there. But it will all come out now as people are talking about it everywhere and they cannot hide from it. Monday will set it straight again.
The most disrespectful VP Debate in History

Unfortunately the MSM still holds the cards in TV exposure and the Obama campaign would never agree to a debate with a moderator like Laura Ingraham, Bret Baier or even squishes like David Frum or David Brooks.
“...Candy Crowley in a dog carrier on the roof of AF1...”
Pretty darned funny!
“The American People are offended that you would pretend a video is responsible for you foreign policy failures!”
Romney should have said......
I knew the truth.
Why didn’t this “reporter” know?
That’s almost like a carpenter not knowing what a T-Square is. It’s common knowledge. Dumb, dumb....
"So as soon as we found out that the Benghazi consulate was being overrun, I was on the phone with my national security team, and I gave them three instructions. Number one, beef up our security and and and procedures not just in Libya but every embassy and consulate in the region. Number two, investigate exactly what happened, regardless of where the facts lead us, to make sure that folks are held accountable and it doesn't happen again. And number three, we are going to find out who did this, and we are going to hunt them down, because one of the things that I've said throughout my presidency is when folks mess with Americans, we go after them."
CANDY CROWLEY: Well, you know, I heard the president speak at the time. I, sort of, reread a lot of stuff about Libya because I knew wed probably get a Libya question so I kind of wanted to be up on it. So I knew that the president had, had, said, you know, these acts of terror wont stand or, whatever the whole quote was.
So this liberal "heavyweight" is lying right in the above response. She "knew" that there would "probably" be a question about Libya? She handpicked all of the "undecided" (yeah right) voters questions and had the final say on the questions being asked and also given carte blanche about her own questions if she felt obligated to ask them.
Then she continues, "so I kind of wanted to be up on it". Which to me means she isn't the right moderator justy for that alone as if she is a so called journalist and isn't "up on it" then we should have a more informed "journalist".
Then the coup de grace is her last sentence. "So I knew that the president had, had, said, you know, these acts of terror wont stand or, whatever the whole quote was". She is purposely misquoting Obama. He was never referring to the benghazi attack as an act of terror. She then almost admits she was clueless when she said "or whatever the whole quote was." That's either she doesn't understand and wanted to use it anyway to shill for Obama, or she did understand but is playing dumb so she doesn;t seem biased, or she understands and is purposely lying so she can shill for the president. Anyway you slice it, her bias was evident and she should step down and criminal and civil action should be taken upon her ASAP for this cronyism within the media bowing down to Obowma.
It was laughable when Biden said they had bad intelligence regarding the Libyan embassy attack, yet in the same breath says they have very good intelligence regarding how close Iran is to having a nuke...two different intelligence agencies?
Woulkdn’t this be on the dufus Prince Reibus or Prius Reibus, the RNC Chairman? Someone needs to grill him about this and wait for a dunce response from the jerk.
Really? How so? Bob Schieffert is the next moderator and just as much of a far left liberal as the other 2 liberal moderators. Romney will get doubleteamed once again. I am not going to be surprised but stupified as to why this happens at every debate. Where is the likes of Mark Levin or Glen Beck moderating?
exactly. I think her destiny was written for her once she was named “Candy”. After the debate I wonder how many twinkies she scarfed down.
She blamed Romney for her failure.
Was she the one standing in front of Bush’s house in December 2000 crying while reporting that Gore LOST?
