Palm Beach County Democratic Chairman Mark Alan Siegel has rejected a call from Florida Democratic Party Chairman Rod Smith to resign over Siegel’s statement that fundamentalist Christians want to see Jews “slaughtered.”
Siegel instead will take an “indefinite leave of absence,” Smith said after huddling with Siegel and Palm Beach County Tax Collector Anne Gannon and state Rep. Lori Berman for about an hour this morning at the Florida delegation hotel.
“Today I asked for Mark Alan Siegel’s resignation. He has declined. He is embarrassed and humiliated by his inappropriate comments and has requested an indefinite leave of absence, which I have granted. Effective immediately he has been removed from his responsibilities,” Smith said in a statement. “We condemn in the strongest possible manner his comments which are not reflective of the Democratic Party.”
County Democratic Vice Chairwoman Terrie Rizzo will take over Siegel’s responsibilities.

President Clinton, attempting to conduct verbal jujitsu, said that following; "Though I often disagree with Republicans, I never learned to hate them the way the far right that now controls their party seems to hate President Obama and the Democrats." I would really like to be shown similar GOP delegate / representative statements made that can compare to these Democrat screeds. The dems provide many exquisite illustrations...I’d have preferred Siegel to have gone into some tortured theological defense of his rant. A Columbia SC delegate, a lawyer named Harpootlian,compared our governor Nikki Haley to Eva Braun yesterday or the day before. Happily, he did not apologize; he doubled down, and as far as I know has received no official reprimand. How can we diabolically encourage these idiots to say more self-destructive things? You mis-read the sentence. They condemn in the strongest terms the comments which are not reflective of the Democratic Party. As for those comments that are reflective, we will not identify them. Remember. This is a Democrat aparatchik speaking. Check for double meanings. Parse everything.
