The Commander in Chief got a decidedly cool reception from the troops on a whistle stop at Fort Bliss in El Paso Friday. While this president already is not widely popular with our military, the attitude demonstrated by the shanghaied soldiers in that cavernous hangar was demonstrably cooler than at such past events. The conservative media interpreted that indifferent reception to dissatisfaction with Obama's politics and his repeated failures as CinC, but the event is far more consequential as yet another example of how little the Obama Administration understands the military it commands.
I'm an old non-com who, as a bachelor lived in the barracks, and as such I'm well aware of the excitement that permeates any military barracks in the days leading up to a four-day, holiday weekend like Labor Day. Virtually every soldier has made big plans to escape his military existence for four precious days and spend that time with family or friends. Many will have to use the first and fourth days for travel to and from distant destinations, which means only two, crucial days of holiday pleasure for them, sandwiched between two less pleasant days of travel, especially if they must fly commercially. Take away just one of those days and many of those soldiers' plans will either have to be scrapped entirely or the time at home or whatever destination, be reduced to a single day. Plans made long in advance have to be rescheduled, a sometimes quite difficult task when it regards holiday weekend travel: flight changes may be impossible and hotels are booked solid; neither may allow changes in reservations without severe financial penalties.

Another Epic fail photo op by the President
Who is the only President to ever miss the D-Day commemoration?
Obama!
in 2010, 2011, & 2012.
Nailed it, Sarge!!!!
Yes indeed. There are no weekends in the Military. You must be available at all times unless you have been granted leave. This means you can only travel a certain distance from base if you leave base at all. Not a lot different for officers living off base. You are restricted in your movements unless you are granted a leave exception.
It can be a narrow confining life. Your freedom is not free is it?
Too bad the average American doesn’t realize how much the military that they so admire can’t stand Obama
The Obama regime realizes it and I’m sure they will do their best to suppress the military vote.
Far too man Americans do NOT admire the military but, in fact, hate it. This is true of almost everyone who voted for The Disaster.
Jim glad to know you are in Raleigh. Let me know if you come west, you can visit. My son lucked out because he was competing in Mo. for best of the best NCO status. He missed the “Zero” visit but said most of his friends pretty much said the same thing you said. Thanks for letting me know. Ken
For general info. Those in the United States Navy are NOT given “weekend passes.” What we get is termed “LIBERTY”.
And in the life of the military that is exactly what it is.
Even those not in a ‘duty section’, who can sort of laze around, know they can be ON DUTY on 4 seconds notice.
Absolute free time, to any one in the military is a precious thing, not to be messed with.
But, but, isn’t this just clearly indicative that Dear Leader is consistent, if nothing else.../s
Based on my 22 years in the military there are three things you don’t mess with for a G.I. You don’t mess with his wife, you don’t mess with his pay, and you don’t mess with his time off.
Someone remind me to read this “screw the Military” in my local paper the, Albany Times Union.
Never mind, no mention of the troops sacrificing their week end
tweets from local El Paso paper:
There are 5,000 soldiers and family members waiting in the heat for President Obama to speak.
The soldiers have been on their feet for about 3 hours.
After hours on their feet, some sat down on the floor. Women in heels took off their shoes. More than 200 soldiers outside the hangar are sitting on tanks. There are also a few soldiers sitting in a helicopter nearby waiting for the President.
At 1 p.m., president Obama arrives.
WaPo feed:
The president jogged down the steps of Air Force One, stepping onto a sprawling tarmac where the temperature was 92 degrees.

GEE, it’s really hot down here in Texas. Sorry, about the wait, but you know how busy I am, running for President and all that stuff.
But they DO mess with the GI vote!
Ballots never seem to get where they’re going.
One would hope that status of being on-call at a moment’s notice would not be exploited for political purposes by those above you in the chain of command.
I understand completely if I am not on duty during the weekend and want to hold a barbecue, but it gets cancelled because the Egyptian army is massing on the Israeli border, forcing me to return to may ship.
I am going to be very pissed, and I think rightfully so, If I am forced to cancel my plans to burnish the campaign of a politician, especially one that I likely oppose and/or hate.
It just dawned on me after all this time - Zero isn’t using teleprompters! Those things are mirrors so he can see how macho he looks while orating.
