Surprise! Donald Trump will get a formal opening-day role at the Republican convention, according to Politico, who talked to “people familiar with the matter”:
Trump has generated some buzz with recent posts on Twitter saying he was planning a big surprise at the convention next week. But for the first time sources are confirming Republicans will indeed enlist Trump to be part of their opening day act.
Trumps appearance will come on a day with a theme titled, We Can Do Better, which appears likely to amount to a coordinated attack on Obamas time in office.
We are going after Obama, said Kyle Downey, a convention spokesman. If he doesnt want to talk about his failed record, we will. The American people expect and deserve better.
But what exactly does this “surprise” entail? Maybe not as much as it sounds:
Convention organizers wont say what hell be doing in Tampa or whether hell address the delegates there. But they promise the controversial billionaire and prominent anti-President Barack Obama provocateur will be part of their opening day schedule.
The move will undoubtedly generate headlines given the real estate moguls star power and his flair for the unconventional.
That’s certainly one way of putting it, yes. But if Trump isn’t speaking to delegates, what will he be doing? Perhaps he’ll be acting as some sort of ambassador for Wall Street and celebrity attendees, but even then, it wouldn’t be like Trump to do so quietly. He’ll want a big platform at some point; the only question will be whether he wants the dais.
In this case, I think LBJ’s advice probably applies. I’d rather have Trump inside the tent looking out then outside the tent looking in. (Okay, okay, I’m paraphrasing.) I just hope that the famously loose cannon doesn’t end up being the worst of both cases.
Honestly...one step forward,two steps back.
Palin. Period.
No Palin, but we get Trump??????
WTH?????????
And because with just Romney, there just wasn’t enough
of a “rich white guy” vibe. We needed more.
The RNC,GOPe...is there ANYTHING they don’t know...?
Now about Palin...
Still no Palin?
Big mistake, Mitt. She is THE Tea Party darling. If you thought Paul Ryan got you some brownie points...Bring out Sarah.
I can visualize the reception she’d get at the RNC...we’re talking Richter scale reception.
Wonderful.
A ‘comedy’ skit with King Kombover.
Another confirmation that the Republican establishment morons are TRYING to lose.
Honestly, I expect some form of video address from The Donald. This way, his remarks can be vetted and edited before they’re aired.
Trump to Get “Surprise” Convention Role
*******************************************
Caterer?
surprise in that he’s only been talking about it for 2 weeks now...
He will NOT be a loose cannon at the convention....conventions are too-well planned for unpleasant surprises to happen. For Trump to announce some kind of "surprise" along with his having been given a role in the Tampa event signifies it's something "good" that the GOP officials approve of on the program.
So instead of nitpicking, criticizing, tearing-down, micro-managing, negatively-questioning and over-analyzing the Donald's upcoming appearance, why can't everyone for a change relax, have some anticipation, have some fun and look forward to the event with satisfaction that the guy is on OUR side, is no dummy, will have an anti-liberal message and will create a bigger audience for the convention as a side benefit.
As MAD magazine sez...."what, me worry?"
Let's all try to be HAPPY and positive about something for a change.

One the FREEPERS last week said that Trump is going to announce the new season of “The Apprentice” with all the contestants coming on stage. I thought it was pretty funny and knowing Trump, a possibility.
Trump??? Where is Palin, West, Gingrich, Bachmann, and Cain? What about us Conservatives, Romney? Don’t we get even one of our own to speak?
Take note GOP and RNC....it means NO CONTRIBUTIIONS FOR YOU for four more years!!!
We can always hope that he is the one telling Romney, “You’re fired!”
Why in the world would the GOP want this guy as a participant? I mean I like Trump because he says entertaining stuff but he’s a bit of a buffoon and certainly a target for the media.
Trump as Sec Treas? Possible [although I doubt that is his 'surprise'.]
I heard today that Romney has chosen Jay Seculow to select his judge nominations. For anyone who does not know, Jay is the head legal mind of the ACLJ!. ...Not the ACLU, the ACLJ: American Center for Law and Justice; Jay has probably argued more cases before the SCOTUS than any other person in recent times - AND, he is on our side! The ACLJ is a Christian-based org.
The ACLU has a lot of $$$ and they intimidate small school districts and small businesses by threatening endless law suits. ACLJ has jumped in to fill the gaps. Often the cases the ACLU threatens to pursue have already been litigated in SCOTUS but they hope they will win without much of a fight due to their opponent's limited resources. ACLJ has brought some balance to this travesty of justice.
R & R seem to be on a great reconstruction course! :-D
I agree with MinuteGal!
Maybe Trump’s going to bring Palin along... It would be exciting and uniting... Trump understands why it would work...
Trump will present Palin as the new contestant on Apprentice.
The selection of Paul Ryan is another manifestation of same.
"R & R seems to be on a great 'reconstruction' course".
You've nailed it, Bob! See my tag line.....

Also spotlights concern about how we do business with China, and the importance of quality experienced people put in power positions that run government vs. the current Czars and academics
I’m excited! It makes it all the more worth watching...
I love it when Trump gets going on China and trade policies. He's a warrior on these subjects. The present trade policies are killing us.
I'd like to see Trump appointed as some kind of special trade envoy directly under the president....and not as a cabinet head.
Guys like Trump and gals like Palin would never take cabinet appointments. They are bigger than that....and their egos (in the good sense of the word) would not enable them to accept such status, high-sounding as it appears.
Cabinet posts are political dead-end jobs, some are highly-administrative desk-type posts which idea go-getters don't like. Outside of high-profile spots like Secretary of State, maybe even Defense, how many cabinet members' names can anyone remember. The answer speaks for itself.
Trump, Palin, Rubio, whoever, are big names with high capabilities....and we hope they get the proper appointments in a new administration if they so wish.

The Head PimP Boss himself.. what could he possibly do or say that will make the audience go wild? Maybe he can go on Leno afterwards with Moochele and they can have a ‘hair-off’.
He is under contract to a network that is set to deliver more gay family oriented comedies .. Yes, the commershes from the Olympics are still a not so distant memory.. albeit a rapidly eroding one..
So...no Palin. No Gingrich. But The Donald front and center? Who is giving the keynote? Joe the Plumber?
Cake Filling, he going to pop out.
Jay Seculow picking judegs is the legal equivalent to Milton Friedman doing your economic/tax plan. That is awesome news.
Thank you, Leni.
Leni you are absolutely right. Thanks for your comments!!!
“Jay Seculow picking judegs is the legal equivalent to Milton Friedman doing your economic/tax plan. That is awesome news.”

That would indeed be awesome news IMHO. Of course, there are bound to be folks on FR who come out and lambast Jay Seculow as insufficiently conservative and therefore we shouldn’t vote for Romney but, instead, not vote and contribute toward Obama’s victory and Eric Holder doing the Supreme Court picks (possibly picking himself among others from places such as the ACLU and the SPLC).
Yes!
Melancholy - check out Bob Ireland’s comment about Jay Seculow.
That’s wonderful. We need a Couple of conservative judges to balance the potentially long tenure of the LGBT axis!
MinuteGal said it well.
Actually, Rep Steve (IIRC that’s his first name) King has said he might author or whatever the correct word is, a bill that would make every law 0kaka signed null and void. I hope all his hires and appointments would be included. When the truth about okaka is made public, I hope a huge outcry for null and voiding would occur, and that would include the BODs on SCOTUS.
Wouldn't that be a surprise. If Trump did introduce Palin, and Palin stepped out onto the stage unexpectedly..........WOW!
I live just north of Tampa and I'd be able to see the roof blow off the GOP Convention Center from my front porch!
Leni
:)It sure would be fun.
My prayer is that his surprise is Sarah
Maybe he’ll bring up the birth certificate again, make it a mainstream issue.
a bill that would make every law 0kaka signed null and void.
If that happens, I'll never talk to null and void again without a gasmask!
I copied Nully because YOU mentioned his name!
Who's on first? LOL!
I suppose that’s better than making me every law Okaka signed...
Yeah, flush it!
I was thinking of pinging you! I can’t type that phrase without thinking of nully the person now.
Does anyone remember the opening of the 2004 convention? It opened with the head of the Republican Party (can’t recall who it was at the moment) in a video that mimicked the opening of Saturday Night Live episodes where all of the players are announced, along with the guest host.
I’m guess this will be something similar, with a parody of The Apprentice, where The Donald interacts with major Demoncrats (Obama, Biden, Hillary, Pelosi, et. al.) and tells them one by one that they are fired.
Just a guess.
Hi friend, Catching up as you can see. Will sleep in tomorrow and first time in some time!
I am with you on this too! Donald Trump will be great and sure will add excitement and fun to the Convention!
Yes, great news! The more decisions I see Romney make the more I think he is going to surprise many and be a VERY GOOD President!
