Trump to get “surprise” convention role

Surprise! Donald Trump will get a formal opening-day role at the Republican convention, according to Politico, who talked to “people familiar with the matter”:

Trump has generated some buzz with recent posts on Twitter saying he was planning a “big surprise” at the convention next week. But for the first time sources are confirming Republicans will indeed enlist Trump to be part of their opening day act.

Trump’s appearance will come on a day with a theme titled, “We Can Do Better,” which appears likely to amount to a coordinated attack on Obama’s time in office.

“We are going after Obama,” said Kyle Downey, a convention spokesman. “If he doesn’t want to talk about his failed record, we will. The American people expect and deserve better.”

But what exactly does this “surprise” entail? Maybe not as much as it sounds:

Convention organizers won’t say what he’ll be doing in Tampa or whether he’ll address the delegates there. But they promise the controversial billionaire and prominent anti-President Barack Obama provocateur will be part of their opening day schedule.

The move will undoubtedly generate headlines given the real estate mogul’s star power and his flair for the unconventional.

That’s certainly one way of putting it, yes. But if Trump isn’t speaking to delegates, what will he be doing? Perhaps he’ll be acting as some sort of ambassador for Wall Street and celebrity attendees, but even then, it wouldn’t be like Trump to do so quietly. He’ll want a big platform at some point; the only question will be whether he wants the dais.

In this case, I think LBJ’s advice probably applies. I’d rather have Trump inside the tent looking out then outside the tent looking in. (Okay, okay, I’m paraphrasing.) I just hope that the famously loose cannon doesn’t end up being the worst of both cases.

Still no Palin?

Big mistake, Mitt. She is THE Tea Party darling. If you thought Paul Ryan got you some brownie points...Bring out Sarah.

I can visualize the reception she’d get at the RNC...we’re talking Richter scale reception.

Wonderful.
A ‘comedy’ skit with King Kombover.

Another confirmation that the Republican establishment morons are TRYING to lose.

Honestly, I expect some form of video address from The Donald. This way, his remarks can be vetted and edited before they’re aired.

It may come as a shock to those who don't get out much, but Trump is generally well-liked among the populace. He is somewhat cartoonish in some aspects, but he's personable, affable, non-threatening, not snooty....and an interesting guy most common folk would like to have over for dinner.

He will NOT be a loose cannon at the convention....conventions are too-well planned for unpleasant surprises to happen. For Trump to announce some kind of "surprise" along with his having been given a role in the Tampa event signifies it's something "good" that the GOP officials approve of on the program.

So instead of nitpicking, criticizing, tearing-down, micro-managing, negatively-questioning and over-analyzing the Donald's upcoming appearance, why can't everyone for a change relax, have some anticipation, have some fun and look forward to the event with satisfaction that the guy is on OUR side, is no dummy, will have an anti-liberal message and will create a bigger audience for the convention as a side benefit.

As MAD magazine sez...."what, me worry?"

Let's all try to be HAPPY and positive about something for a change.

One the FREEPERS last week said that Trump is going to announce the new season of “The Apprentice” with all the contestants coming on stage. I thought it was pretty funny and knowing Trump, a possibility.

Why in the world would the GOP want this guy as a participant? I mean I like Trump because he says entertaining stuff but he’s a bit of a buffoon and certainly a target for the media.

Trump as Sec Treas? Possible [although I doubt that is his 'surprise'.]

I heard today that Romney has chosen Jay Seculow to select his judge nominations. For anyone who does not know, Jay is the head legal mind of the ACLJ!. ...Not the ACLU, the ACLJ: American Center for Law and Justice; Jay has probably argued more cases before the SCOTUS than any other person in recent times - AND, he is on our side! The ACLJ is a Christian-based org.

The ACLU has a lot of $$$ and they intimidate small school districts and small businesses by threatening endless law suits. ACLJ has jumped in to fill the gaps. Often the cases the ACLU threatens to pursue have already been litigated in SCOTUS but they hope they will win without much of a fight due to their opponent's limited resources. ACLJ has brought some balance to this travesty of justice.

R & R seem to be on a great reconstruction course! :-D
