The Silver Lining: Mitt Romney just won the election.

Posted on 06/28/2012 9:06:35 AM PDT by Jaguarmike

As a guy who's been unemployed for a few months, I've made a habit of looking for silver linings in the darkness. Folks, there is some good news to this monstrosity: now Romney's path to the White House is pretty much assured.

Up until today, Obama had one issue that was haunting him: the economy. He could blame the GOP for not doing being "bipartisan"...a charge that has always made me nauseous. But as of today, Obama's got to defend a policy that the majority of American people don't like. And he can't blame the Republicans for this - they didn't vote for it.

Guess what? Obama just raised taxes on the middle class. How did that work out for George H. Bush? The Democrats, as we all know, are not the party of the middle class. The debt now exceeds the GDP. The higher it goes, the greater pressures there will be to raise taxes on the middle class.

Romney can point out that with another four years of Obama, more taxes will be coming. Does anyone doubt that this administration will raise taxes on energy through cap and trade? And given this man's fondness for issuing executive orders, why let a little bump in the road like Congress get in the way of what he wants?

Now, like many of you, Mitt Romney was not my first choice. I hated Romneycare. On the other hand, there is a difference between what a state can do, and what the federal government can do - it's clearly explained in the Constitution. And I do think Romney has been clear on this point: that the current FCA is an overreach of federal power. Romney has vowed to repeal this - and I think with a Senate majority, he can do so, just like the Democrats did when they forced this on the American people.

“he at least CLAIMED this morning he’d work to nuke and replace ObamaCare.”

The devil makes a lot of promises he never keeps. You are a fool IF you think Romney will keep any promises about Nuking Obamacare. Even should he, it would only be to replace it with his own version.

Voting for Romney is no better than voting for Obama. Both are poison. It is just a choice between cyanide or arsenic. Either way you are dead.

Vote for that fool and cave into a lifetime of servitude to the GOPe.

“All Romney has to say is that his program was right for the SOVEREIGN STATE OF MASSACHUSETTS...”

Sophistry! Tyranny and trampling of rights is NO BETTER if done by a state than a federal government - it shouldn’t be done by either. YOU ARE STOMPED EITHER WAY! Most sensible persons can see this.

Romney is no better than Obama...except for the ears. Plus, he has always held up Justice Roberts as the type of appointment he would make to the court. Oh the joy that brings! NOT!

I wished a credible conservative would mount a third party run. Even if it loses, at least I could vote for them. I WILL NOT vote for the magic mormon anymore than I would of the Kenyan.

“It is possible that Gov. Romney, upon being elected, may betray us in many ways. It is guaranteed that the anti-Christ will continue to betray us in every way.”

You fool. The Magic Mormon is an anti-Christ also! Only the naive would drink his cyanide Kool-aid like a stupid Jim Jones follower. Open evil, like Obama, is easier to combat than the hidden evil that is Romney. They are both poison....Romney is a more insidious type. That makes him more dangerous.

No, anyone with sense won’t vote for Romney anymore than Obama!

I don't want any idiot in government at any level to implement this kind of thing, either, but the way our government was originally designed, the states were sovereign - they were limited only by their own constitutions. It was the federal government which was limited by the federal constitution to just a few powers.

I don't know whether Massachusetts's constitution allows for Romneycare or not, but Romney could legitiamtely argue that Romneycare is legal at the state level but Obamacare is illegal at the federal level. If Obama hits him with that accusation of hypocrisy, this is something Romney could respond with. In this day and age, of course, since most Americans have barely heard of the Constitution let alone understand it, nor have they heard of federalism, they would probably not understand that argument. But it would be legitimate.

I use to think that way. But it’s more like certain destruction verses certain destruction with a side of lost credibility. No political party that believes socialized health care is an abuse of government power would nominate a candidate who enacted socialized health care in his own state. And I’m supposed to believe when the going gets tough on the removal of Obamacare that Romney is going to spend political capital on this subject? Our should I read his lips? Maybe I can do that while I enjoy some really awesome free prescription drugs? Do we even have to talk about immigration?

Let me know how kicking that football goes.

Obamas Titanic is sinking under him, he has been tossed a lifering.

But SCOTUS has filled it with lead.

The joke is on Obama.

Don’t vote for Mitt, four more of Obama on steroids.

If Obama is reelected, you will have the satisfaction of knowing you helped put him there, enjoy the ride.

Better an a Obama on ‘roids than a stealth big government liberal dressed as a conservative. Then you can feel responsible for electing the man destroying our message.

Ha. You can disagree, all you want. How many of their Supreme Court justices vote for freedom as compared to our Supreme Court justices that vote in favor of big government? How many Democrats vote to reduce the size of government as compared to Republicans who vote for central management of the economy?

The size and scope of government has gotten bigger every year of my lifetime. I’m sorry for the big revelation here but us in the small government crowd are getting our a$$es kicked.

But I’m sure doing the same thing THIS time is going to produce really different results.

I’m in the small government crowd also.

I just don’t let it keep me out of the “as much government as we can get away with” when we’re losing.

Which is right now.

The time for the small government argument was back when there were alternatives.

Now the fight is about who will govern. Period.

As long as we keep playing the short game we are going to lose long term. The question is about what sort of world our children are going to live in.

Well part of that is, in a country in which things are made.

In a country which manufactures and sells AMERICAN GOODS.

We have turned away from American goods. And now we’re paying for it.

Big.

We need to manufacture here. Before we collapse.

Guess what? Obama just raised taxes on the middle class.

Guess what, tens of millions of middle class Americans lost their jobs and health care...millions more had their hours slashed and health care benefits reduced to near worthlessness. Not to mention biggov has imported tens of millions of foreigners and illegals, most of which have zip health insurance....And many employers probably secretly see this as a good thing....Dump the costly employer paid benefits!

My bet is there are a whole lot of people who see this as a good thing, or better than what they were left with.

BTW, all those who still have employer provided medical benefits see this as bad..

Those mentioned in # 115 likely don’t, and now that millions who now work 20 hours per week, with millions underemployed or unemployed, very likely see this as a benefit.

I think you and other small government minded folks are playing checkers in a world of chess. This is bigger than saving one segment of the economy.

Besides freedom doesn’t follow the economy, it works the other way around.
