Friday afternoon, presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney said that he tends to agree with Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubios stance on immigration policy.
In response to President Barack Obamas changed position on the issue and decision to selectively enforce illegal immigration law Rubio said its a short-term answer to a long-term problem.
I believe the status of young people who come here through no fault of their own is an important matter to be considered and should be solved on a long-term basis, so they know what their future would be in this country, Romney said in a statement provided to The Daily Caller. I think the action that the president took today makes it more difficult to reach that long-term solution because an executive order is, of course, just a short-term matter it can be reversed by subsequent presidents.
Id like to see legislation that deals with this issue, and I happen to agree with Marco Rubio as he looked at this issue, Romney continued. He said that this is an important matter, that we have to find a long-term solution, but that the presidents action makes reaching a long-term solution more difficult. If Im president, well do our very best to have that kind of long-term solution that provides certainty and clarity for the people who come into this country through no fault of their own by virtue of the action of their parents.

Would that be on all immigration or just illegal immigration.
I believe every Republican candidate has spoken about the importance of securing the borders against illegals.
True, Romney is not a conservative. And we do not want Americans to think that he is. The last thing we want is for "Right-Wing" to be redifined as anybody who thinks like Susan Collins or Mitt Romney.
If we lose credibility making such claims that only Romney supports Amnesty we will lose credibility when we try to tell the American people that he is not conservative.
We've already gone down this road once earlier in the primary when most of the candidates were still up on that stage. The debate ended with videos of Sarah Palin on O'Reilly and other GOP Conservatives saying pretty much the same thing Romney has said this week.
Let's have honest debate or we will lose our credibility as conservatives. We've already been here and done that. We knew where all these candidates stood on this issue and there really was no much of a difference between them on "immigration".
The question about Obama's own citizenship is in the courts. We've allowed this man to stomp on the constitution for more than 3 years now. The real target should be John Boehner and those we put into the House who refuse to take Obama's own eligibility to task.
Thanks to our elected officials in the House the situation is this. We are ALL Americans until proven OTHERWISE. Obama has made it so. There is no longer any way one can be here illegally if they simply burn their documents which prove they were born elsewhere.
The REAL issue is NOT what Obama did but HOW he did it and if we do not deal with the real issue his next executive order just may be proclaiming that guns are illegal to possess unless you are a police officer and maybe after that conservative websites are "hate speech" and should be treated no different than how we treat Al Qaeda.
The real issue is our freedom and his (Obama's) grasp of powers a President never had.
Oh, but he was.
little bit, yeah, but the site was mainly pro Gingrich all the way.
This is code for romney and rubio wanting amnesty. That’s my take anyway. So that issue is almost a wash between and obama — except apparently they at least believe congress should provide the legislaton rather than an E0.
You are correct indeed my friend. And honest. Newt is only the tip of the ice-berg too. We went down this road a few months ago and it ended with videos of several of the conservative candidates coming out with a similar stance.
I'm surprised that many who claim they are conservatives see this as an issue about "Illegals".
What if next weekend Obama signs an executive order to bann guns from the public. Is the argument going to be about how guns are a right or maybe how Romney is not a gun rights advocate?
The REAL issue (if you are a conservative) is not what Obama did but how Obama did it. Right now, sad to say, Romney's and Gramnesty's response to Obama's executive order is actually more conservative than some of my conservative friends.
Let's hope that's the last time these two RINOS appear to be to the right of our own stances. It's embarrassing to say the least.
It's The Constitution, stupid!
Romney is our version of John Kerry. He waves in the wind. Always did and always will.
That being said. Romney was not the only GOP candidate to come out with things similar to what he and Rubio had said this week. Sarah Palin said something similar about the path to citizenship on OReilly. If you're looking to hammer Romney over the head with this issue it will only come back and bite you. It did once a few months ago and that's why the issue went away.
I dare say that this is one of the few occasions where Romney has come out with a conservative response. He did not fall for making this issue about "illegals" as Obama had wished. The issue is BY-PASSING Congress.
The problem I had with Newt's proposal, Obama's actions and Mitt's response is that:
1. Yes, people in this particular situation are going to be the toughest problem to deal with....a.) it's not their fault that they're here and b.) many of them are fully Americanized. However, dealing with them first is bass-ackward.
2. The first step -- in any plan to get illegal immigration under control (if that's indeed the objective) -- should be to secure the border. Reduce the influx to a minimum.
3. The second step is to effectively remove the work opportunities and deny any government support for illegal aliens. At which point the vast bulk will self-deport.
4. Then, and only then, do you address those who are left. And, at that point, if you wish, you can afford to be "compassionate" -- because the door is closed behind them.
Our problem -- as per usual -- is that nobody in government wants to do the hard part...
“...dealing with them first is bass-ackward.”
Good post. I like your 4-Step solution.
Yah think someone here might NOT have heard or read about Mittens having screwed the pooch on this issue so why not throw it up here ONE MORE TIME?
Yeah, so Romney is a flip-flopping, RINO, wuss who I'd rather not have as our candidate, BUT as we are stuck with him, what do you suggest we do? Stay home? Write in someone else's name?
Why not just encourang all to vote directly for the FASCIST Dear Leader and be over it???
First step: secure the border
Step two: if these folks who claim to love this country and want to be a part of it should go to the nearest immigration office and begin the. Aturalizatoon process as millions before them have. If they don’t want to do this back home they go.
The longer they are here the sooner the rats will find a way to have them voting.
Yeah, Mitt, there just has to be one somewhere, if you just look hard enough. What COULD it be? Enforcing the law? Naw - don't be ridiculous. But what? What could it be?
born May 28, 1971 in Miami, FL (Meets the Jus Soli Requirement)
Parents were
Mario Rubio born in Cuba, naturalized Nov. 5, 1975.
Oria Garcia born in Cuba, naturalized Nov. 5, 1975.
Parents were NOT US Citizens at the time of his birth (Does NOT meet the Jus Sanguinis Requirement)
Marco Rubio is NOT a NATURAL BORN CITIZEN.
Marco's status is the same as that of Barry Soetoro, aka Barack Hussein Obama, who is NOT a Natural Born Citizen.
“...are actually on video conceding their own support for some sort of “path to citizenship” for illegals...”
::::::::::::::::::
I would be careful not to confuse “path to citizenship” with amnesty. They are very different since with amnesty, there is no path. Also presently, we have a path to citizenship — by OBEYING THE FEDERAL LAWS to become a citizen as many have. Something many politicians do not want to dirty their hands with and just sweep it under the rug. Just not politically expedient for the Washington elites. Just look at how this has been handled by those that have supported amnesty for expediency. And now, we have a president that is advocating the breaking of federal law to pander for the Hispanic vote.
Until the law breakers are removed from power, and respect for our Constitution, our federal immigration laws, and our soverignty are restored, will this issue ever find a reasonable and just solution for all concerned -— especially the TRUE AMERICAN CITIZEN who is the real victim of this insanity and crime.
Somehow I guess the rule doesnt apply anymore. If it was ok for Barry Soetoro then it’s good for everyone, right?
Yeah. It's called enforcing the law you pukes.
To me, (unlike to many others who support it) a path to citizenship is path back home to your own nation and you get into the end of the line at the US Embassy behind those who who have been in line trying for the American VISA the legal way.
To others path to citizenship only means register here in the US and at some point after you're done filling out all the paper work, take a short vacation to your nation, visit the US Emabassy, skip ahead of those already in line waiting and get these papers signed. By the way, bring a few relatives back with you. After all, you're an American now so you can legally sponsor them.
The long term solution is to fortify the border and remove the invaders.
Any questions?
All Arizona and Alabama had to do was enforce federal law and the illegals left of their own accord.
