According to the North American Electric Reliability Corporation, known as NERC, the state is in for a struggle.
New EPA pollution standards take effect Jan. 1, but NERC says many of the state's power stations won't meet those standards. That means they'll have to go offline for repairs.
When that happens, according to the NERC report, "The generators' current compliance plans indicate that 1,200 to 1,400 MW of generation would be unavailable."
It goes on to say, "The unavailability of this generation would increase capacity insufficiency and the need for emergency actions including rotating outages."

What would happen if Texas just ignored the regs and kept the stations running?
Ping.
Publish EPA names and addresses of all those signing such an order.
Please.
We’ll let Texans take care of the rest.
And they will, because unlike Massachusetts metrosexuals, they’ve got b*lls.
DC residents, better start looking out for Texas plates, buttholes.
Well, they really should be ready before the deadline.
If they have to go off-line I would suggest November 1 to November 5, 2012.
.
Texas tell the EPA to Pack Sand.
Just locked my rate at $0.104 / kwh for 36mo. I can live with that. It is $0.002 more than a 12 month or month-to-month.
StarTex does not seem real concerned for some reason. That rate is $0.002 lower than the two year rate in 2010.
I would like to see Texas tell the feds to stuff it and spin on it though.
This is a December 2011 report.
And the rolling blackouts are a threat to our security. If EPA regulations will result in rolling blackouts, public security should trump the EPA regulations.
The newest report comes out Thursday. I’ll submit the entire doc for viewing at that time.
They should go off line on Dec. 21st, 2012 and scare the hell out of a lot of people.
Interesting. Do you know what delivery charges and taxes will be assessed?
I've been looking at alternative power suppliers. My last 10 bills from TXU have been around $0.098 for generation cost but the other fees add up quickly and the final cost / kwh goes up.
The following link shows all the plants identified by the red dots on the map.

Delivery is something like 0.0022 / kwh
The 10.4 is a renewal rate for 2,000 kwh / mo and is all in.
I've investigated many offers but often find a surcharge if usage is below a minimum level. Since becoming empty nesters in 2003 we've averaged just under 500 kwh per month.
In many cases switching to a "lower" rate would cost more.
Don’t getum started..../6)
This time 2/3 yars ago, we were braggin to people about how good our electric grid had become.
With Obama’s EPA, Texas is taken a beating,
Almost like they want us to bow up or something??
Rolling black outs don’t help the economy either.
Ohio gets slammed by the closures. And Kentucky, West Virginia and Missouri.
to fix the ERCOT market, stop the federal tax credit the wind generators get for each MW generated. Wind generators pay to generate during off peak hours, they raise the MCP, Market Clearing Price, thus raising the “floor.”
To bad that no one is smart enough to figure that one out.
