The Daily Caller asked Florida Republican Rep. Allen West on Capitol Hill if its appropriate for Rev. Jesse Jackson and Rep. Al Sharpton to publicly protest the Trayvon Martin case.
I dont think anyone should be using this tragedy to push an ideological agenda, to include the anti-gun lobby, West told TheDC.
Some civil rights leaders, such as Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, have been criticized by conservatives for politicizing the case.
His family should be outraged at the fact that theyre using this child as the bait to inflame racial passions, Rev. C.L. Bryant, a former NAACP leader told TheDC on Monday.
West was also asked if he thought Martins parents should be participating in a Judiciary Committee briefing on racial profiling and hate crimes.
Ive got to tell you. This is the peoples house and so they have a right to come and bring their case, West responded, adding that he had no thoughts on the case itself.
Im not an investigator and so I need to see, we all need to see what comes out of the investigation and let it materialize, he told TheDC.
West had previously called the Martin shooting an outrage and criticized the how local police handled the investigation.
Lets all be appalled at this instance not because of race, but because a young American man has lost his life, seemingly, for no reason, he said in a post on his Facebook page.
I have the highest admiration and respect for Rep. Allen West and would vote for him in a heartbeat but he sounds a bit naive to think race-pimps like Sharpton and Jackson are going to let a perfect-storm trifecta of left-wing issues, guns, race, "black victim hood", all rolled into one, the only political currency they consider legal tender, go to waste simply because Mr. West abides by a civil, moral standard far above and beyond that which guides these two race-baiting carnival clowns.
Good for him!
I love Allen West but he let the race baiters lure him down the road of instant outrage before he got the whole story. Now he’s having to backtrack.
Call me cynical, but I don’t believe that anyone, especially a man who has dealt with the rough-and-tumble of partisan politics, can be that naive.
“Lets all be appalled at this instance not because of race, but because a young American man has lost his life, seemingly, for no reason, he said in a post on his Facebook page.”
And when push comes to shove, West buys into what the race baiters are selling.
LTC West he’s the best!
However I do take issue with him calling this 17 year old THUG a child.

Quite a contradiction in statements........Perhaps the good Mr. West should keep his mouth shut...........
I emphatically agree with what you’ve all expressed about West. No question about it. His pusillanimous responses have dropped him a notch or two down on my list.
