Too far? Sandra Fluke cartoon reignites debate over law student’s testimony

And you thought Rush Limbaugh's remarks were mean.

Syndicated conservative cartoonist Gary McCoy is receiving some nasty feedback — as well as some positive reviews — for a new cartoon he penned showing an unflattering and obese version of Sandra Fluke, the Georgetown Law School student at the center of the birth control debate.

The cartoon shows the Fluke character holding a Pro Choice sign and yelling "STAY OUT OF MY UTERUS GOVERNMENT" in one slide. In the next slide, she says "After paying for my birth control" … while writing "For a good time call … " on a men's bathroom door.

The cartoon echoes Limbaugh's misleading claims that Fluke was asking for taxpayers to pony up money for her to have a lot of sex.

With advertisers fleeing and even Republican presidential candidates not supporting what many see as outlandish statements, McCoy is one of the few semi-public figures to enter the crossfire with Limbaugh.

Readers on the Townhall.com, where the cartoon was posted, had mixed reactions about the cartoon.

"Vulgar and yet so true!," one woman wrote.

She should be humiliated.

Further. She brought it on.

This thing is such a liberal setup.

Hey, sew the wind. Reap the whirlwind, baby.

She wanted our attention.

She got it.

Funny that her right to birth control somehow trumps our right to free speech/press.

Its nothing new in political cartoons and Fluke is now a political figure so she’ll have to deal with it.

I remember seeing one from history that showed Abe Lincoln with an obvious erection in his pants as he hovered over a black woman scrubbing a floor. Obviously an anti republican cartoon.

The hypocrisy is indictment enough without portraying the hypocrite as an ugly woman who would sleep with anyone. Perhaps making cartoons unnecessarily nasty might draw more attention, but I find it quite distasteful.

“The cartoon echoes Limbaugh’s misleading claims that Fluke was asking for taxpayers to pony up money for her to have a lot of sex.”

Exactly how was that not what she was saying?

She presumed to speak representatively for her sisters... therefore she attained at least to vicarious sluttiness. The cartoon could be made more pickily perfect I suppose by saying “our” instead of “my” (uterus, birth control).
