and most importantly, he is someone that Romney’s billion dollar smear machine will have a nearly impossible time smearing.

“If this keeps up, he’ll get my tea party vote from the heart of California’s conservative Central Valley!! Newt or Santorum. Either one is fine by me!!”

I agree. Of course I prefer Santorum but certainly would love to vote for Newt in the General. Come on Onyx join us.

-—”And in the Newtered camp there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth”-—

Nope. We will wait, just like after Iowa when you guys were having your first Rickgasms and dancing on Newt’s grave. I remember nearly all of you predicting a Rick win in SC and finishing ahead of Newt in FL based on his Iowa performance.

Newt has still brought twice as many people out to vote for him so far as Rick. Not that it matters, since we all know that winning small, non-binding caucuses with low voting numbers and fewer delegates is the key to winning the nomination (/s).

“Momentum” didn’t carry Rick after Iowa, Mitt after NH, or Newt after SC. It is fun reading the “this time for SURE!!!!” posts, though. I’m sure Rick will be in the 50% range on Super Tuesday like you dream, and just wipe-out his oppenents with no subsiding of support due to attacks, or fallback in mojo for an entire month. This time for SURE!!!!!

I’m in Mississippi. Newt Gingrich gets my vote!

He has my money, my prayers and my support.

If Santorum is the nominee, of course I will support him!

Very fair. It seems like everyone will support either Newt or Santorum in the general. That is a relief for me to know because it has been a bit “interesting” during the primary. lol. God Bless you Onyx. I miss you.

I agree...I’m a fellow Californian and it’s either Newt or Rick for this coming primary. I prefer Newt, but Rick will be A LOT better than Mitt.

No need to miss me, dearest, sweet you, naps! I'm always here for you. Primaries are rough business. Santorum is not my favorite for many reasons and some has to do with his remarks about Sarah Palin. I think he has character flaws that I don't like in a man and that I find disgusting.

I will vote for him and support him if he's the nominee and I'm grateful that Romney is getting his just desserts!

NO Romney!

Yaelle, you’re Korean. You may be able to do more for your candidate than you realize.

Call around to Korean businessmen and offer to provide Korean-language brochures in their stores explaining why their customers should vote for Santorum. Make sure there’s a phone number on the brochures that people can call to speak to someone in Korean.

Call some large Korean churches where you personally know members and ask if they’d be interested in having a Korean-speaking representative of Rick Santorum (maybe you?) explain why American Christians should vote for Santorum.

Find out the voter registration deadline for California and the absentee ballot rules. If the deadline hasn’t yet passed, check the laws and arrange to get voters registered. In any case, arrange to get absentee ballots filled out.

Get some Korean-language Santorum bumper stickers printed. Same for some Korean-language yard signs and Korean-lanuage posters to put in windows of businesses.

Write letters supporting Santorum to the local Korean-language newspapers in Los Angeles and Orange County. Get your Korean friends to do the same in other cities in California.

When you’re done, you should be able to document that you’ve gotten several hundred Koreans registered and several dozen Koreans, maybe several hundred, to vote absentee in advance.

Then call the Santorum campaign with an offer to help organize a Korean rally for Rick Santorum.

If you do everything right and you’re lucky (or more accurately, if you’re blessed in your work) you may end up not just seeing Santorum on stage but standing on stage with him translating for a pre-primary rally, and then getting asked to head up something like a “Koreans for Santorum” campaign effort for the general election.

And no, I’m not kidding. If you haven’t guessed yet, I might just have a little bit of experience in campaign work.

Koreans are well-known for contributing large amounts of money to political campaigns, but are often politically naive and unsophisticated themselves. It requires a Korean to get that community to the polls, but when the community is motivated, it turns out thousands of voters and sometimes tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Ethnic voters who are motivated by faith and small business ownership are the key to winning states like California. There aren’t enough of us white guys left, in places like where you live, to win the state for Republicans. America is supposed to be a country where being a good patriotic Americans doesn’t depend on skin color, and I’ve said for a long time that Koreans and Hispanics could be the key to winning places that Republicans haven’t been able to win in several generations.

Thank you, Jim... I am **REALLY** glad to hear you say explicitly what I was already pretty sure you believed.

I'm pretty much in the same place as you, by the way. I prefer Santorum but I've already been taking a lot of “hits” in my church circles for saying Gingrich is acceptable.

On something more important:

Elsewhere on this thread, I gave FReeper Yaelle some on-the-ground practical suggestions for how to organize a Korean political campaign in Korean churches and businesses. I might just have a little bit of experience doing such things. What I don't have is knowledge of California election law, and she needs guidance.

Can you perhaps help Yaelle by putting her in contact with people who will steer her in the right direction?

Koreans often don't vote, and when they do vote they often vote based merely on the recommendation of somebody they know. That's a real problem in California where Koreans are overwhelmingly churchgoers and many are small business owners — they should vote Republican but often don't, simply because the wrong people get to them first.

I've put a “bug” in Yaelle’s ear. With some California help and a lot of hard work, I could easily see her turning out hundreds of votes and quite possibly helping organize an effort that turns out thousands of Korean votes.

Ethnic minority voters who run small businesses and go to church are the future of the Republican Party in places that haven't voted Republican for many generations. Koreans can and should be a big part of that.

Can I pretend to be Korean to get up on stage with Rick? LOL!

All joking aside, it's a great idea.

Wow, I wish I could do your words justice. I’ve had my genetics studied down to HLA typing, but there is no evidence of Korean ancestry. I do love kimchi though and I have been to Korea. I also grew up not far from where they filmed MASH.

But I would love to help his campaign here. I have very few free hours even for phoning but I will try. I can be part of Jews for santorum or moms for santorum. My baby goes everywhere I go. I am already sitting in my car right now spreading the santorum word on my bumper.
