Losses will mount at Oprah Winfrey's new cable channel for a "period of time," as Discovery Communications Inc. keeps investing in the venture, Discovery's chief executive told investors Wednesday.

-snip-

"The losses will increase for a period of time, and the funding will increase for a period of time," Discovery CEO David Zaslav said at an investor conference organized by UBS AG. Discovery has spent $254 million funding OWN through Sept. 30, according to securities filings.

FAIL! Discovery Networks shareholders should be aghast at the amount of their money Oprah has flushed down the toilet so far.

No one wants to admit that Oprah has passed her expiration date, like a loaf of stale bread.

The problem as I see it, is that you have to have a pretty good income stream to be able to afford cable, and the service OWN is on. That right there eliminates 75% of the folks who would want to see anything on the pinhead’s network.

Perhaps she should find way to transmit for free to the public in parks and on sidewalks. Course those folks won’t be buying anything advertised on the OWN network.

Most of em don’t own a tooth-brush or a bar of soap. They know next to nothing about personal hygiene, and are as likely to take a crap on the sidewalk as in their own home bathroom.

Cheer Oprah, you dim with.

“...you have to have a pretty good income stream to be able to afford cable...”

I think you're wrong about that. I'd bet most people making minimum wage and most people on welfare have cable. I was upper middle class growing up in the 80s and my family didn't have cable TV — but my friends whose families had less money all had cable.

I think Oprah is simply overexposed and there are too many options on cable TV now for Oprah to kill in the ratings.

The Oprah ratings were dropping like crazy when her show was free.

If she wasn’t a kooky leftist, nobody would spend a plug nickle presenting her show for a fee.

Leftists love to reward failures. I’m sure Barry will hire her to produce a show in the White Hut.

Oprah has served her purpose in destroying at least one generation. They don’t have to prop up her brainwashing business anymore. They will find a new propagandist destroyer. People have finally figured her out for what she is.
They will send a different wolf in sheep clothing.

Priorities being what they are, you may be right. I do agree that she is hidden by the forest of interesting channels out there. I think she screwed up big-time by leaving the network and starting her OWN.

Hey, take care.

OWN is a perfectly horrid channel. There is nothing, zip, nada, on there that is worth watching. At least Discovery Health had Dr. G, but this channel has zero.

Oprah should pay it back, she is likely to have been the highest earner in the US-maybe on Earth, in 2010.

At least on Dish Network, you have to have one of the upper tier packages to get this crummy channel. For most, it’s going to cost around $100 a month, and doesn’t include the movie channels like HBO.

I think it IS the cable. Many can’t afford it, and are simply switching to hulu and such.

IMHO, people who watch Oprah aren’t true believers. She was simply something they liked to watch in the afternoon. They like easy, and watching O is easy - it’s local TV and came on after the morning garbage local TV, soaps and such.

Now it’s harder to watch her - harder to find her. Hard is not something libs do. Certain people get followed, like Beck and Rush. Oprah’s not Beck.
