Holder is suppose to testify before the House Judiciary Committee on Dec. 8, this letter seems to be a related maneuver.

“It took 1,364 pages of documents to say “we lied”?”

No, but anyone looking for truth must go through all those pages to find it.

They have a fall guy, looks like it is to divert accountability off Holder and Obama, prior to his Dec 8 testimony to the House Judiciary Committee

The documents show that Dennis Burke, then a U.S. attorney who has since resigned, and William Hoover, then the deputy director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives who has since been reassigned, principally provided the false information to officials who drafted the letter. (From: Justice Department Reveals Origins Of False Gun Letter To Grassley

Last Friday's document dumped showed Obama met with Gary Grindler, the then-Deputy Attorney General and currently Holder's Chief of Staff, 4 times in 2010

From visitor logs:

---In early 2010, Gary Grindler was intimately involved in all aspects of Operation Fast and Furious. During the height of the operation, Grindler visited the President on four separate occasions in only two weeks --

Funny how there aren’t a half million conservatives protesting in front of the justice department.

"Probably the thing that bothers me the most about all this is that Charles Grassley is not the sharpest knife in the drawer, if you know what I mean."

Fortunately, Issa's on it, and he's the knife sharpener...

"Justice Dept. details how it got statements wrong:"

Holder: "We LIED."

The Obama administration, the most CORRUPT presidential administration in American history.

"Is Issa preparing to be satisfied with Holder's "innocence"?"

Or lulling him into a false sense of security. Issa has more evidence, and so does Holder -- so make Holder let his guard down. Then spring "Holder presided over a corrupt directive and should have known..." Hell he knew anyway.

Gotta believe the GOP greybeards want to slow this whole thing down so it goes deeply into the Election Year. Holder resigns during the holidays? Not much impact. Holder resigns before the first general election debate? Whoo, boy...

Noteworthy how the MSM buried "J Edgar" (scripted by the guy who wrote the MSM fantasy "Milk", no less) to avoid any comparison to the present-day FBI Director...

I’m getting the feeling nobody is going to be held accountable for these crimes.

If you're talking about prison time, I think you're right. The worst I see happening to any of these miscreants is resignation and/or public humiliation.
