Ron Paul is for real in Iowa. Seriously.
The Washington Post ^ | November 17, 2011 | Chris Cillizza

Posted on 11/17/2011 2:26:31 PM PST by Kurt Evans

Texas Rep. Ron Paul, long dismissed by the GOP establishment as a fringe candidate, has broadened his electoral appeal and emerged as a major player in the Jan. 3 Iowa caucuses, according to several recent polls and conversations with a handful of longtime Hawkeye political operatives...

In a Bloomberg News survey — conducted by renowned Iowa-based pollster Ann Selzer — Paul was in a four-way statistical tie for first along with businessman Herman Cain, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich...

And, in a new Iowa State/Gazette/KCRG survey, Paul took 20 percent — behind only Cain at 25 percent...

Paul is using the relatively uncluttered airwaves to tell a story of himself as a consistent champion of fiscal responsibility in a field of candidates that have not always hewed so closely to that mantra.

One ad attacks the inconsistencies of Cain, Romney and Perry on fiscal matters — TARP, economic stimulus — before cutting to Paul; “I’ve been talking about these problems for a long long time...now we’re bankrupt and we have to decide which way we’re going to go,” he says.

And, it’s not just Paul’s television ads that have blanketed the state. Sixty seven percent of those tested in the Bloomberg poll said they had been contacted by the Paul campaign via email, direct mail, telephone or someone coming directly to their door over the last year — the highest percentage for any candidate...

“We have a strong ground game in the state that is reaching out at a faster pace than any other campaign,” argued Trygve Olson, a Paul adviser...

“We are picking up support among social conservatives in Iowa -- particularly ones who believe our country’s fiscal situation is in serious peril,” noted Olson...

Was this the same commission who had Jamie Gorelick of "The Gorelick Wall" and Fannie Mae fame as a member? The same commission that accepted testimony from Sandy Berger and ignored information on the project Able Danger?

Neither Paul or the 9/11 Commission have credibility in that arena.

unfortunate that he is picking up support from Reagan conservatives who should be spending their time doing more useful things.

They say they are defenders of the Constitution, but do they really follow the decisions of the court? Were they there in opposition the Kagan? Did they defend Alito against attacks during his nomination fight? Will they be there the next time a Souter or Meyers is put forward?

Will they really do a thing to stop Romney’s drive toward the nomination?

I just don’t see the reason for people to freak-out about him.

Aside from the fact he can't discern a deadly enemy from a lilac bush...

They reported what they did. Paul just repeated that.

I dont agree with him on everything - but GMAFB about Cain, Perry, Newt, etc. What a joke.

Perhaps, but I was skeptical of Paul years ago, given his most ardent supporters are Bideberger-fearing, Zionist-hating, tin foil hat-wearing David Icke types. Broken clock theory aside, I generally avoid the things that crowd finds appealing.

Speaking only for myself, yes, yes, yes, and yes.

>Will they really do a thing to stop Romney’s drive toward the nomination?

Does keeping him from winning Iowa count?

I support him for his fiscal and monetary views and general get the govt out of your life positions, nothing else.

Cain is done and has become a gaffe machine

Romney - no way.

Newt - I could live w Newt but he has his moments

Perry - Done going nowhere

Bachmann - I like her alot

Santorum - irritating and annoying

Huntsman - forget it.

Paul sounds very reasonable for a while and then if you listen long enough he turns into a nutjob.

He kind of reminds me of the time I heard Louis Farrakahn on the radio giving a speech to a group of black students. I remember thinking “these kids should listen to him, he is making a lot of sense”. Then all of a sudden LF shifts gears and he is talking about the mother ship! Wow!

Santorum is polling lower than Huntsman.

Now that's sad.
