We Need Jobs, Depending on the Color
The White House rhetoric has been consistent in regards to giving lip service to its relentless focus on creating jobs, especially those of a certain color. Do jobs have a color? They do if you are a government official, in particular an empathetic, self ordained, omniscient and paternalistic liberal, endlessly fighting for the working class. Remember, the conservatives fight for the rich, and the rich dont even work! They just have a lot of money.
Even the Republicans believe in colored jobs, so far as they have regurgitated the liberal lingo in their speeches and responses in radio and television interviews. In order to keep this article shorter than the Obamacare bill, we will set aside the irrefutable fact that the government can only create jobs by destroying others, since it has to tax private employers and workers to pay for them. We, economists, call this a zero-sum game. Cake cutting is a zero-sum game, because taking a larger piece reduces the amount of cake available for others. The only short-term exception to this rule is if the government borrows money, referred to as deficit-spending, to employ the government workers. In the long-term, however, the deficits need to be repaid, so even deficit spending will still reduce future private sector employment. I digress; back to the liberal utopia where jobs have color.
Why do jobs have color? The color of the job represents its importance to society at large; lighter shades like green being more vital than those of darker shades, such as gray, brown and black. This can be confusing, especially if your only clues are gathered simply from the presidents rhetoric. Often times, he insists that we need jobs, millions of them. Upon closer inspection, or by examining the administrations policies over the last two, economically devastating years, you will understand that green jobs are a central focus, if not the sole focus. Obama has taken great lengths to make dark-colored jobs smaller pieces of the cake, in order to enlarge the green ones. Not convinced? Consider these two examples.
At the height of U.S., private sector unemployment, tens of thousands of dirty oil jobs were prohibited from existing by the Obama administration subsequent to the Gulf Oil spill. Lord Obama, fulfilling the prophecy of the empathetic liberal that he claims to be, unilaterally fired those workers through Executive decree in order to protect them from themselves. I am certain his office was flooded with thank you cards.
At present, the Democrat-controlled Senate is fleeing D.C. for a five-week summer vacation without taking action on a House measure to expedite the long-delayed Keystone XL oil pipeline. They have set a deadline of November 2nd for the White House to act on the bill. This would inject $20 billion of private investment into the struggling economy, generate $600 million in tax revenue, soaking up government red ink and create roughly 120,000 jobs for the working class.
How much would this bill for permission cost the taxpayer? Nothing. In light of the recent debt ceiling fiasco, how much would this bill increase the deficit of the federal government this year and beyond? Not a penny. How much would this private investment take from other pieces of the economic cake? It wouldnt take any, since the private sector actually creates and then invests wealth by generating excesses called profits. The free market is NOT a zero sum game; every party wins through voluntary cooperation.
If jobs are so important to Obama, as his rhetoric would suggest, why does he insist on killing them? Why would he wait until the November 2nd deadline to give permission for this private project? What about taking bold action, petitioning the Senate to fulfill their duty, or using the power of his crown by issuing an Executive Order? On one hand, we can give Obama credit for kindly providing the Americans in question with endless unemployment checks and food stamps, by taking hard-earned dollars out of our pockets. In light of all the rhetoric, you would think that his concern for the deficit, his central focus on jobs, his tireless dedication to the working class, his poetic leadership skills, and his exceptional ability to cross both racial and political party lines would result in placing this policy measure as a top priority?
Unfortunately for these workers, their jobs are the simply the wrong color. Although Obama doesnt see black and white, he can tell the difference between green and brown. Ironic.
Prosecute all the crook cronies.
Give me a brown job that lasts!
Coal is cool.
I am surprised that the great O has not tried to get 400 NBA players back to work.
So if a job is not sufficiently “Green”, exactly what color is it, officially?
I really need to know, wanting to get my new bumper stickers made correctly!
State of South Carolina: 27.6% Black
State of Washington: 3.7% Black
Obama and his NLRB loyalists want Boeing's new Dreamliner plant in South Carolina to be shuttered and the jobs to go to the state of Washington..
