In the Carpenter home, every meal begins with a prayer. Robin and his wife, Emily, are devout Christians. But they part ways with many other Christians over a measure that would expand the legal definition of human life.
Their son, Luke, now 4 years old, was born through in vitro fertilization.
The anti-abortion amendment being voted on this week in the state could restrict in vitro procedures, and the Carpenters are worried that if they wait too long to add to their family, they may end up breaking the law.
"I don't really want or need anybody else getting involved in trying to limit how that works for us, or stopping it," said Robin Carpenter. "We need to have the same rights to have a family as anybody else does."

If they’re “devout” Christians, why did that go the IVF route? Perhaps this is the fault of their pastor.

Where in either the Bible or the Constitution is this “right to have a family”?

Well, you might try Genesis, where God told Adam and Eve to “be fruitful and multiply...”
Of course, that only applies to people who look like me and share my moral/religious philosophy.

That was a command. Not a “right”. After all, the apostle Paul and Jesus himself did not marry and have children. Were their “rights” violated?
He also did not authorize the use of ivf but the natural method of reproduction to Adam and Eve.
Just doing the jobs that Americans won't do!
Nor did He authorize automobiles, airplanes, computers, organ transplants, and a lot of other stuff we use. Does that mean we should just wear animal skins and be hunter gatherers??
I personally do not believe God gave us these awesome brains and then told us not to use them.

I just got off the thread about the Duggars expecting their 20th child. I think they are living the words of the Bible.
I know a lot of Pro-ife groups are now saying that life begins at fertilization instead of conception, which is totally wrong. For those of us who are Catholic, Mary was the Immaculate Conception, meaning she was conceived without original sin on her soul. It’s not called the Immaculate Fertilization. This means that our souls enter our bodies at conception.

My — My all this speculation —what if? — Why not let the amendment -the terms used — speak for itself? Cut the speculation and fear mongering. and as to this lady who is pious— if the poor woman is so worried that maybe they had waited too long and might find this Amendment in their way to having children... I urge her to read what the bible says of

Some people take the parts that they like from the Bible and disregard the rest. God have mercy on their souls. Their child was conceived in gross sin in my understanding. They can turn to Jesus and repent and be forgiven. Perhaps they will be blessed with a natural conception afterwards.
All said, they have a child now, I bet before they had that one they would have been grateful for only one. Greedy natures are sinful and do not produce good Spiritual fruit.
So they think the abortion mills should stay open so they can expand their little family. If they read this thread I pray it will open their eyes.
As a personal note, I have no children but God still blesses my life. They are not essential to salvation.

I have no government power. Hence, I couldn’t deny you your right to an opinion even if I wanted to. So please don’t play the “victim”. That’s what leftists/OWS-types do and this is a conservative site. I also believe that ivf goes against God’s principles and adds to the dehumanizing view of people in our world. If a man and a woman can marry and reproduce naturally or adopt, I am all in favor of it. But I do not agree with ivf and that is my freedom to do so.

This bill does bring up difficult questions. Among the most difficult has to do with IVF, during which process many eggs are typically fertilized. The question: What do we do with the “snowflake kids” that result from the process of IVF? Simply disregard them? Or produce only the number of fertilized eggs (i.e., “children”) that mothers want to see come to term? What about adoption of “snowflake kids”?
Whew.
It is good to consider life, and the ramifications for those of us who have emerged alive from the womb.
Conception & fertilization used to be synonomous — and in casual usage, still are. However, I think the “legality” or medical term of conception refers to the implantation of the fertilized egg in the uterus.
