Cain: I'll challenge Perry for evangelical votes

HARRIMAN, Tenn. — Republican presidential hopeful Herman Cain says he's challenging Gov. Rick Perry for the GOP primary's critical evangelical vote.

In an interview with The Associated Press on Saturday, Cain said the Texas governor "thought he had carved out that niche when he didn't own that niche by himself."

The Georgia businessman said he doesn't wear his Christian faith "on my forehead" but believes his campaign will do well with religious conservative voters.

Yes, Cain can preach it, brother.

But can he do it? And does he mean it?

We know virtually nothing about the man except that he has come up with a catchy phrase about taxes and he is concentrating on taking out who? Not Romney, for sure, but Perry, another conservative.

Perry can preach it also, but not in debate format so much. I mean Gingrich is the smoothest debater by far and I would prefer him to Cain if we’re gonna grade on debate points.

Instead of screaming hysteric childish bile at anyone challenging your Perry-worship. Address the questions.

One of the dumbest posts I’ve seen in a long time... Do you really thing FReepers are dumb enough to fall for any of that drivel?

Do we really know Perry? After many years of governor?

What do we REALLY know about Cain, besides what he TELLS us? He’s a motivational speaker and preacher-— he’s good at telling people what they hear

Seems like you’re projecting... Big-time

Where are the hits on Romney from him?

It's hard to take a swipe at someone you've announced you'd serve as their VP (Romney). But easy to hit on someone you've announced that you flatly refuse to serve with (Perry).

Interesting that Bachmann comes out almost at the same hour on the same day with a border "challenge" for Gov. Perry.

The only candidate offering real solutions instead of “trim around the edges while kicking the can down the road yet again” is Cain.

That is untrue. The solution to fixing this country is to undo everything ever President has done to us since Reagan left office and forgot to grab the credit card on his way out. Perry is the one wanting to do that. Turn our energy back on, take away the EPA's strangle hold on everything we are trying to produce, get rid of all the stupid spending and let us be America, the country that leads the World and advances mankind.

Good points. What I’m wondering is what are the Cain folks gonna do if that train derails.

They’ve worked themselves up into such hatred of Perry (for no valid reason - please - nobody tell me all your valid reasons again, I beg you), that they couldn’t possibly bring themselves to support him now, even against Obama.

It’s way crazy and sick.

Maybe they’ll turn to Gingrich. Let’s keep our fingers crossed tht Gingrich would govern as good as he debates and not go will-o-the-wisp on us again.

Nice fact-based post, CW, but I don’t bother to respond to the person you responded to anymore.

I like Gingrich, but I don’t think he has a chance. He’s probably the most intelligent of the candidates, but that’s never counted for much. And I think people would here would dislike him for two reasons: (a) because they are willing to believe the stories put out by the Democrat destruction team because Gingrich was such a successful legislator; and (b) he’s a Catholic.

ROFLOL, national poll average, ending 10/12. They are separated by a whole .3 points. You are funny, Willard is peeing in his special underwear.

You may be right. And I totally understand the downside of Newt.

But, hey, he looks pretty good compared to the traitorous Republican candidates who seem to be putting ALL their energy into defeating a fellow Republican, proven conservative and all around good guy.

Something’s rotten there.

Don't just cling to your Perry worship, take a good close look at what you are actually supporting. Far from being “the most Conservative” in the race. Perry is the Liberal GOP Establishment's alternative to Romney.

Bill Kristol to a NY Time Reporter telling him how the GOP Establishment plans to deal with “the Tea party mutiny”

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2792217/posts?page=3

Kristol told me just after Perry entered the race, a development that essentially ended [the more radical Michele] Bachmann’s brief ascent. Establishment Republicans may prefer Romney to Perry, but their assumption is that either man can be counted on to steer the party back toward the broad center next fall, effectively disarming the Tea Party mutiny.

What does anyone really know about Perry other then the nice words and platitudes he puts in his speeches?

Well probably more than we currently know about the part time preacher from Antioch Baptist Church North - Atlanta. When they apply the proctoscope to him then we may know a little of his history, associates, dealings, beliefs, etc. Until then we are pretty much clueless.

Amazing how many other-wise intelligent folks and hitched onto Cain’s bandwagon without knowing a damn thing about him

I’m very impressed with most of what I’ve heard from him, re policy (though the 9-9-9 is way too gimmick). But that’s just it... It’s just talk.. where’s his record? Anyone can tell you a damn thing to get your vote- look at Obama

When you switch to his actions, he’s a looming disaster... On issue after issue

As an example.. Last debate... There was a study on his 9-9-9, saying there would be a significant shortfall... From experts... Granted you can debate the merits of the study... His response? “they’re wrong”. No elaboration, no jack shit... Ask him details on nearly anything and he’s not knowledgable

You folks going based on his words alone will be deeply disappointed

You think the media will let him go if he gets nominated? He’ll be destroyed by them

Outside of serving in the Air Force, every point you cite is one of establishment political positions. Have we not had enough of this already?

So for the Permanent Political Class, Cain’s professional resume of results has no bearing whatsoever, but that is understandable in light it shows those who live and benefit from the Permanent Political Class have no faith whatsoever in commercial accomplishment. Just because Cain has no public political accomplishments they spin the line that he is just as unqualified as Obama.

I can take that to an analogy that because you have no experience as a press secretary (that we know of) that you are unqualified to be the official Perry spokesperson for this blog.

Sorry folks, that dog just doesn’t hunt anymore.

"Cain is talking Romney right to the nomination."

Right, I can see how Cain is covering for Romney by projecting a tax plan that proves Romney to be without a clue and Perry to be a moron, taking the lead in the pols while Romney and Perry slide to the bottom, and talking straight while Romney and Perry either lie about their positions or can't seem to find the words to articulate them is "talking Romney right to the nomination".

If you have the ability, try to think it through and form your own opinion based upon fact.

I warned you when you Perrybots when started this smear attack on Cain. Do not go there. The truth always wins in the end

When you tip over the Perry rock, a whole lot of slime oozes out.

Like any professional politician, Perry has a whole lot of skeletons in his closet. When you refused to make this an issues based campaign, and decided instead to make it a smear job whisper campaign about Cain, you made your guy's background and political connections fair game.

So how about you drop your habitual smear attacks on Cain and try telling why we should vote FOR Perry for a change?

This is total BS. You need to observe what is happening. Cain and Bachmann are in this to protect Romney—for whatever reason.
