GOP Debate: Rick Perry Booed Over Texas Immigration Law
ABC News ^ | Sep 12, 2011 | Amy Bingham

“The American way is not to give taxpayer-subsidized benefits to people who have broken our laws and are here in the United States illegally,” Bachmann said at the CNN/Tea Party Express debate.

Perry defended the law, saying it was a states’ rights issue.

“We were clearly sending a message to young people that, regardless of what the sound of their last name is, that we believe in you,” Perry said.

Last name is not the issue at all.

Perry is playing the "race card" with that comment. I cringed when he first said it and then he repeats it. I wasn't impressed.

That border needs to be secured... Who do the border patrol in Texas work for? Who runs the official border crossings? These illegals need to be stopped... it is bad for Texas and it is bad for America. None of the peripheral political issues matter as much as Sovereignty.

I would also point out that I watched Greta to actually see Palin. When Greta mentioned how Newt was the only one to bring up waste and fraud as a way to cut costs and Palin gushed how Greta took such wonderful notes and how she herself wondered why Newt was the only one with the courage to stand up too. She then went on to say that too many on stage were involved in waste and fraud so they couldn't speak up.

That is when I came out of my chair. Perry brought up how he dealt with waste and fraud and consolidated agencies to streamline the budget THEN Newt chimed in and the Romney commented on how cutting waste and fraud is only part of the solution.

I saw then Greta and Palin were up to something or just dishonest and I think it was both.

Last night Palin lost her one quality she supposedly had on all the others and that was her integrity. I hope Perry lambastes her for her lies and smears. Disgusted.

Problem is, in Texas, illegals pay state taxes--either directly through sales taxes, or indirectly by paying rent on property that pays property taxes. We don't have an income tax here, so illegals in Texas are no different from U.S. citizens when it comes to education expenses.

Whether you are illegal or legal, if you live in the state of Texas, you are paying for education, so why would you force them to pay out of state tuition?

Perry is exactly right on this. These kids did not bring themselves here, they were brought here. If they are in high school working hard with the aim of going to college, why shouldn't they pay in state tuition?

The law has an opt-out provision? I didn’t know that.

Lying just like Palin. I had separated her from her supporters this whole time. After watching her boldy lie and smear on Greta, I see her and her supporters are one in the same. Should have known.

” I did it without Daddy’s money, without government help ...i got THREE part time jobs and I freaking WORKED FOR IT!!!!”

You put me to shame. I had one part time job, but I often studied until 2 AM. I’ll also bet a dollar to a dime that you have been a success in life. Your character is showing, and I like what I see.

Great post!

If you had attended a Texas High School you, too, would be able to pay in-state tuition.

Almost magical! LOL!

“These kids did not bring themselves here, they were brought here”

Please tell them to take that issue up with their parents then-—NOT the taxpayers.

So let me get this straight, Perry wants to give illegals in state tuition for colleges? And he considers illegal immigration a state issue? I guess if the feds ignore and outright violate immigration law, and actively obfuscate the laws on the books, why should the states follow them? That explains a lot, like why Texas and California are whining about how heavy handed Arizona and New Mexico wanted to be regarding illegals. Gotta keep the constituents supplied with plentiful cheap labor do we? Don't want to grind that gravy train to a halt.

All you have to do is look at what the illegals have done to CA.....we're broke!

Much of our financial problems are all the freebies we pay to and for illiegals. They have shut down hospitals in San Diego and Los Angeles because those hospitals can't afford to keep treating people that call 911 for a cold (this is what they are told to do on the Mexican radio stations as once that ambulance is there, they are required to transport the patient to the hospital). That's how they get free medical care and I have to pay for it!

These illegals get food stamps and any other numerous benefits that we are trying to cut down for our own citizens, let alone those that come her illegally.

If Texas keeps on, they will be just as bankrupt as Cali!

Boy, the hard rights really have parachuted into this thread.

"Its over for Perry....He's done!....goodbye!"

Only in their dreams.

Mrs. Can't Look Frontrunner in the Eye tried to shoot his nuts off. Put a fork in her campaign. Same with Paul and Huntsman. Probably Santorum, too.

Most of the dimwits on this thread have no idea what its like to live in Texas and be surrounded by thousands of hispanics on all levels - legal, illegal, resident alien, etc.

Perry might the RIGHT CALL on in-state tuition, has not backed down from his decision (which was made overwhelmingly by both houses in the state legislature before he signed the bill), and I SUPPORT HIS DECISION !!!!

Keep on hatin' and underestimatin'.......lol

There is a very simple way to stop illegal aliens moving into a state: cease handing out freebies.

That's one step. No one who enters this country illegally, especially for personal gain, should be given any rights, or support, whatsoever; including the prohibition of citizenship.

But it's only part of the equation. Employers of illegals should be a priority target. Enforcing laws against the hiring of illegal workers would not only aid our out-of-work Americans, but go a long way in solving the illegal immigration issue. These two steps, in consort, would solve much of the problem. Sure, methods of sealing the border are necessary, but remove the carrot and there will be little reason for the influx to begin with.

” But it’s only part of the equation. Employers of illegals should be a priority target “

Arizona has done MUCH to send illegals packing!

1) All employers MUST verify all SS#’s, and citizenship, or risk a 5,000 fine.

2) If caught a second time, they lose their business lic.

3) SB1070 (Obama sued Arizona AND Gov. Brewer over this, no doubt emboldened by Rick Perry shooting off his mouth against it)

Good news! Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, is holding a criminal investigation of Obama on several levels.

LMBO!!

Obama made a big, big mistake going after Joe.....read his history....he is absolutely FEARLESS.

Well, apparently you're not 'hard right' yourself based on your using it as a slur. Do you realize what forum you're on? This is a conservative forum populated by the right. You call us dimwits, but if anyone is dumb, it's you for your disgusting comebacks.

We're anti-illegal immigration. Period. If you don't like it, go elsewhere. But it isn't going to change, and we don't roll over for jerks like you.

Voters have to consider——— Perry’s use of state power is despicable.

What will he do with federal power?

The astute obswerver can see the wheels turning in his goofy head.....Perry’s got plans....big plans for our govt.

Sarah Palin was fine with Gardasil in Alaska.

It wasn't a school inoculation issue but it was made free to ever girl in the state

BTW, if Bachmann is saying she can't "look into his heart" why is she implying he did it for the money?

If you support Perry or Romney, you are supporting everything that's wrong with both the GOP elite AND the Democrats.

Because in all of America, the only issue that matters is illegal immigration, right? That is the only issue that defines who is or is not a conservative.

Support of small government and individual freedoms is just the left's trojan horse to make GOP dupes forget about the only *TRUE* issue. Jobs, the deficit, the economy, Islamic terror... all completely irrelevant to true conservatives.

For illegal immigration IS THE ONLY TRUE MEASURE of Conservativism.

---

Yeah, and pull the other leg while your at it.

It's part of what makes a conservative a conservative, but not the end all and be all. And if you've got a candidate that's meeting all the rest of the issues except this... you've got a strong conservative, but not a perfect one.

And if that's not enough for you; well, enjoy your hunt for the perfect candidate. I think you'll have quite a chore finding one.
