The American way is not to give taxpayer-subsidized benefits to people who have broken our laws and are here in the United States illegally, Bachmann said at the CNN/Tea Party Express debate.
Perry defended the law, saying it was a states rights issue.
We were clearly sending a message to young people that, regardless of what the sound of their last name is, that we believe in you, Perry said.

You live in TX you have a right to voice an opinion but I’m sick and tired of these people from other states telling us how we should be protecting our borders... What they don’t like about how we are not doing it, to suit them...when it isn’t our responsibility to begin with!
Tom Tancredo and other leaders of the anti-illegal immigration movement have the best and simplest solution—take away their means of support such as governmnet benefits and jobs. Jobs can be stopped by using e-verify. Some simple steps that a logical government would do. Most illegals would go back home and fewer would be coming in when they get the news from their friends. They are responsible for themselves, we are not responsible for them. They got here on their own and they can leave on their own.
I take the liberty of saying what I think about any state, but residents of those states have a right to take umbrage at what what I say too.
The Left has only begun to repeat statistics about the Texas % of uninsured, educational ranking, dropout rates etc. Texas residents may have a better view of what goes on here. I think Perry has responded to that kind of attack by saying that people are moving to Texas, not out of it, and that is a good answer. He could also say that the large number of illegal aliens also affects such statistics negatively, but does not want to offend certain voters.
I believe Bush would have pulled the amnesty stunt long before year seven but he was interrupted by 9/11. He came into office with plans for a very cozy relationship with Mexico.
” Unfortunately, the term was first used by leftists to describe.... well, I’m not sure, something they hated, like “rich people.” “
Except for rich liberals, because rich liberals are superior people, so they deserve their wealth : )
So you honestly believe most of illegals, that would be about 10 million, would go back? I am not buying that. As Mexico becomes more dangerous and desperate they are not going back, still better here. I heard Newt today say that he believes those that have been here for 20 to 25 years should be given special consideration for staying. Why? That is like a burglar getting away with the crime for 20 years so he gets a lesser sentence. The only peaceful way to satisfy this problem is to allow them to become productive people in our society. And please stop about them taking the jobs. I know 10 able white guys right now that are on the system because they DON”T WANT TO WORK not because the illegals took their jobs. Some of the illegals are more responsible then the citizens living here. Hey I am not for immigrants illegally coming here, but for decades the Government has done nothing to stop them. They are here and unless they are rounded up and sent back or put in camps we have to let them be part of our society. Mandatory English language, civil classes, and a point system to obtain driver’s license and privileges should be implemented. I don’t call this amnesty its reality. We have an almost three decade old problem that is not going to simply cross the border and go away.
also say that the large number of illegal aliens also affects such statistics negatively, but does not want to offend certain voters
I don't know why you would think that would be offensive when it's just common sense.
Let's say that's my theory why Perry does not use that argument. He is afraid of offending Hispanics. I suppose it is possible that he has never thought of that as an explanation of why Texas compares worse statistically to other states in some categories, but that would not be a good sign.
Perry went on to argue would you rather have them on welfare? Well, they don’t deserve welfare either, Gov. Perry. They are illegals, you dimwit socialist fraud.

Exactly! If you feed them, they will come.
Round up the usual suspects : )

That includes US Citizens as well.
Personally, I think many handicap people could work for their government check. Obviously, they’re not going to do construction work but they could do some tasks.
You would think most people would like to feel productive and part of the larger whole...?
I saw Workfare work firsthand.
Not to get off topic? but we need to fix this entitlement mentality of our own Citizens, too.
Thanks, lots of good info on your posts on this thread.
yes, I think we need to call on Trump to get the heck in! Now!
Libbie nice speech, however you totally forgot to inform us on what you would do with the 11 million or so illegals that are now here? Nice little tough talk you gave but you suggested NOTHING.
They come to “America” because in most areas they can work without paying taxes, not have to carry health insurance because the ‘system’ will cover it, and can then send more of their income back home. Texas being one of the initial corridors into America, many of them stay.
If you people down there want to help criminals, so be it. But don’t force your ideas on the balance of the nation through a presidential candidate who doesn’t fit our needs. We’re for America first. He’s for open borders and Texas-Mexico relations first. Sorry, but no deal.
