The head of the U.S. Justice Department launched his strongest personal defense yet in the growing furor over Operation Fast and Furious, the controversial sting targeting Mexican drug cartels and American gunrunners.
On Wednesday, Attorney General Eric Holder said for the first time that not only he but also other higher-ups at the Justice Department were not aware of the operation as it was being carried out. Holder also suggested politics could be a driving force behind Republican lawmakers' forceful inquiries into the matter.
"The notion that somehow or other this thing reaches into the upper levels of the Justice Department is something that. ... I don't think is supported by the facts," Holder told reporters at an unrelated press conference in Washington. "It's kind of something I think certain members of Congress would like to see, the notion that somehow or other high-level people in the department were involved. As I said, I don't think that is going to be shown to be the case -- which doesn't mean that the mistakes were not serious."

We've all seen this before with Hillary and Bill.....their standard lines like "I can't recall"."I don't have a specific memory of..." ..."the facts don't support [meaning 'prove it!]..." What he's saying is "I've covered my tracks and you can't prove anything."
Issa will have to put one of the higher ups in a$$ bangin prison to get him to rat out the highest ups (Holder).....
Hot lead for our LE & Citizenry.
Sounds like a fair trade. /s

Because he's trying to make it appear that he was blissfully unaware of it, and getting set to blame anyone and everyone else.
...wasn’t there a clip of him (Steadman) making a speech about “operations” last November. Dumbo had to sign off on this, sooooo,I guess when he say’s “higher ups”, he’s protecting TOTUS.......now we know why Dumbo needs 300 billion more, lotz o hands gonna be extended, gimme gimme.
It would be icing on the cake to have a special prosecutor digging around on this in 2012...
but note: how all of a sudden, Holder jumps out and starts to play in traffic after news that emails were going back and forth from the White ...House....deflect, deflect, deflect, deny, deny, deny, lie,lie,lie....then claim stooooopitity.
Watch for a golf game between Holder and Dumbo, then Holder’s resignation....then Dumbo explaining we have a lot of work to do to get the US back, campaign, campaign, campaign,...blah,blah,blah
Solyndra will keep Obama from running next year and should be the priority. Fast and Furious will just end up like Waco.
Holder is an awful liar. On TV he comes across as nervous and stupid. Can’t wait for this turd to be flushed along with president jug ears
22% of His People buy this BS. The rest of us know him for the liar he is. Pubbies need to haul his @$$ into a Congressional hearing and make him testify under oath and either invoke the 5th Amendment or go to jail.
Now, that brings up a good mental picture ... “President Jughead”. Rings a bell with those of us of a certain age.
Not true DB,
If it were turned over to a special prosecutor the story would not be coming out as they keep a lid on what they do. Until it comes to trial.
We need it to stay where it is and continue to leak out bits and pieces of info as they come out.
Sort of like the ole chineese water torture.
Let the investigation continue for about 14 more months with continueing LEAKS.
Ask him under oath, then find evidence or testimony to prove otherwise.
Last week, our administration launched a major new effort to break the backs of the cartels. My department is committing 100 new ATF personnel to the Southwest border in the next 100 days to supplement our ongoing Project Gunrunner, DEA is adding 16 new positions on the border, as well as mobile enforcement teams, and the FBI is creating a new intelligence group focusing on kidnapping and extortion. DHS is making similar commitments, as Secretary Napolitano will detail.
Well they way that usually goes is you get both. The prosecutor and the leaks...
Agree agree agree.... He’s a LIAR !
Fascists do not let even documented facts ruin their agendas.
I pray this Chocolate Reich does not destroy America like the Third Reich did to Germany.
It took 30 years to kill the Special Prosecutor craze. And nobody does it better han 'rats on Pubs. Careful what you wish for.
Okay, I can’t honestly argue with that...
I love the smell of degaussing in the morning.
But he’s only lying to white dogs, that doesn’t count.
Of course he lies.
To tell the truth is to admit to major crimes.
During testimony on Capitol Hill, we heard Former ATF Special Agent in Charge William Newell admit he was in contact with White House National Security staffer Kevin O'Reilly about Operation Fast and Furious as early as September 2010. Newell also admitted that the DHS, IRS, DEA, ATF, ICE and the Obama Justice Department were all heavily involved and were full partners in coming up with the concept and execution of Operation Fast and Furious. Attorney General Eric Holder and President Obama still deny authorizing the lethal program, despite President Obama specifically asking Holder to conduct a complete review (Excerpt) Read more at townhall.com ...
AG Holder discussed "Project Gun Runner" in April 2009 in Mexico.

SOURCE: DOJ release | April 2, 2009
US Attorney General Eric Holder at the Mexico/United States Arms Trafficking Conference CUERNAVACA, MEXICO ~ Thursday, April 2, 2009 Remarks as prepared for delivery.
ATTY GEN HOLDER: First, let me express my thanks to (Mexican) Attorney General Medina Mora and Secy of Government Gomez Mont for making this conference possible. This is my first trip to another country as Attorney General.
I wanted to come to Mexico to deliver a single message: We stand shoulder-to-shoulder with you in this fight against the narcotics cartels. The United States shares responsibility for this problem and we will take responsibility by joining our Mexican counterparts in every step...
And, together, we will win thanks in large part to the courage of my Mexican colleagues here today, who are on the front lines every day, and with whom I am proud to collaborate.
The topic that has been addressed over the past two days could not be more important the development of an arms trafficking prosecution and enforcement strategy on both sides of the border.
I would like to thank the Mexican and U.S. experts who have worked so hard on this issue. On our side, Secretary Napolitano and I are committed to putting the resources in place to increase our attack on arms trafficking into Mexico.
But as todays conference has emphasized, the problem of arms trafficking will not be stopped at the border alone. Rather, as our experts emphasized, this is a problem that must be met as part of a comprehensive attack against the cartels an attack in depth, on both sides of the border, that focuses on the leadership and assets of the cartel.
This is the type of full-bore, prosecution-driven approach that the U.S. Department of Justice took to dismantle La Cosa Nostra once the most powerful organized crime group operating in the United States. With partners like those we have here today, I am confident that together, we will defeat these narcotics cartels in exactly the same way. I am proud to stand with you, and to join you in this fight.
Thank you again for inviting me here. ####
REFERENCE America's Third War: Is the U.S. Arming Mexican Cartels?

If you ever watch video or look at pictures of Mexican drug wars, you see some pretty heavy weapons. It is a war being waged with rockets and plastic explosives, not pea shooters and Saturday Night Specials.
Consider these incidents:- A M26A2 fragmentation grenade used against a U.S. Consulate in Mexico in 2008 - Explosive projectiles and 21 grenades found during a raid in Guadalupe - An unexploded grenade and pull ring used to attack a TV station in Monterrey - Automatic weapons, including U.S.-made M16s, found at a cartel crime scene in May 2009- U.S. military-issued ammunition found in a cartel raid in Reynosa in November 2008. You can't buy this stuff at a U.S. gun store. So where do the cartels get it?
According to leaked diplomatic cables, there are three sources.
1. US Defense Department shipments to Latin America, known and tracked by the US State Department as "foreign military sales."
2. Weapons ordered by the Mexican government, tracked by the State Department as "direct commercial sales."
3. Aging, but plentiful arsenals of military weapon stores in Honduras, Guatemala and Nicaragua.
Even though these facts were well-known by the Obama administration, including Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Attorney General Eric Holder, it blamed much of the violence in Mexico on US gun shops. "More than 90% of the guns recovered in Mexico come from the United States, many from gun shops that line our border," President Obama said in February 2009.
That was contested, but few listened to gun store owners and former vets like Lynn Kartchner, owner of Allsafe Security, a gun shop in Douglas, Ariz...(Excerpt) Read more at foxnews.com
REFERENCE----Is the U.S. Arming Mexican Cartels?
WHAT IS THE MERIDA INITIATIVE? The US Congress passed legislation in late June 2008 to provide Mexico with $400 million and Central American countries with $65 million that year alone, for the specific purpose of "fighting drug wars." The initiative was announced 22 Oct 2007 and signed into law June 30, 2008.
Are you serious stopping at Holder? Obama, the community organizer, is the only one with enough horsepower to make the stupid decisions to try to gut the 2nd Amendment with this idiotic scheme.
This is Obama's WATERGATE. The pawns are being lined up to protect the scumbag himself.
Look at the "SPEECH" buidup for tonight. Either Obama is the biggest idiot since Carter OR he really is a lawless scumbag trying to destroy the US.
Obviously Obama is a lawless scumbag. Next consider the possibility that he is the equivalent of a terrorist bomber in the White House and then it all becomes clear. The Anti-American arab scumbags bought Obama's presidency, Obama is a plant whose purpose is to destroy the US.
There appears to be no such thing as Respondeat Superior where a government agency is the employer / supervisor. No, it's the old "Sgt. Schultz" routine for them - and it is a rare event when anybody "important" is asked to fall on their sword.
So, is Holder saying he was out of touch and therefore not in charge? Seems just as damning.
Yep, “I don’t think...” is a variation of “You can’t prove...”, and is far from a denial.
Holder will be proven wrong and fired.
“The notion that somehow...”, boy, don’t that sound familiar. That phrase comes out of buttheads mouth every other time he gives a speach.
Why that is such a strong term— YOU LIE! — True but strong.
Of Course Eric holder of the Black Panther DOJ had no prior knowledge of Fast and furious. -in like manner he—and his DOJ had no intent to allow grenades —or weapons cross into Mexico.I sometimes wonder if he HATES the Mexicans more— or The United States of America. He is either too ignorant to be trusted in any position of power —or too dangerous for allowing /risking such international incident—for What?
There are two true responses to his Holder’s statement:
He is grossly incompetent.
He is guilty of a conspiracy.
right now I’d settle for jailing Holder and then cut a deal to drag down Obama...
So this clowns position is that he runs an agency where unnamed underlings illegally transfer 2000 firearms and they do this without his knowledge or approval do it’s not his fault. That’s his position? That is as lame as “ my dog ate my homework”. This jackass ought to be arrested let alone fired.
Thanks for the articles.
Doesn’t really matter if he knew it or not. He’s Captain of the GO#DA##ED SHIP.
Perjury is his middle name!!
Nice set up they have there - I know in my job if someone under me screws up, it's MY fault.
Interesting “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” last night...an ATF agent in the NYC office gave a gun that he acquired in AZ in a sting to a perp. The gun was later used in a murder...they dealt with the issue, and even said that the AZ operation was foolish, but made it come down to a single bad agent. And the ending was silly, where all the violence was laid to guns and not criminals.
Book 'em, Dano!
Considering the the US Department Justice is a committed outpost of the a DMC it takes a forceful inquiry. If it looks political, I don't really care.
Oh my...there was/is a speech Holder gave in Mexico about 2.5 years ago posted on the DOJ website speaking on F&F. Issa was alerted to it so how can Holder wiggle out of that when he gave this speech?
This needs a Special Prosecutor and so does the Gibson Guitar Caper.
But to do that you need GOP congressional leaders with testicles. The last time I heard, Boner and McConnell sounded a little high-pitched.
(and no kidding, huh?)
