Steve Wynn Is Right
American Spectator. ^ | 7.29.11 | Iain Murray

Among the long string of bad economic news from the last few years, there is something to celebrate: The political consensus in Washington that government could keep on growing at no cost to the growing economy has finally broken down. The size and scope of government is now the defining issue of our time. It is a welcome debate. However, it has centered on spending, which is only part of what government does. Regulation and tax policy are equally important.

Legendary entrepreneur Steve Wynn (who usually supports Democrats) put it bluntly a few days ago, when he said: "[T]his administration is the greatest wet blanket to business, and progress and job creation in my lifetime. And I can prove it and I could spend the next three hours giving you examples of all of us in this marketplace that are frightened to death about all the new regulations, our health care costs escalate, regulations coming from left and right… And it makes you slow down and not invest your money."

Wynn is right. If we want Americans to get back to work, we must tackle overweening government now. A recent survey by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce found that 64 percent of small businesses will not hire anyone in the next year. The reasons given all concern government: taxation, regulation, and the threat of new legislation.

A sterling example of Wynn's point is...

We have dug ourselves into a mighty hole. In the 1990s, federal spending increased by $300 billion. In the 2000s, it increased by over $1 trillion. Since 1995, federal bureaucrats have issued over 60,000 new regulations, all of which carry the force of law. The tax code is now 2.1 million words long. Ample evidence shows that this growth in government hinders growth and fosters unemployment...

A lot of that government growth occurred under a Republican president with a Republican congress.

So let’s go back and unelect them then. /s
Seriously, the damage is done. ALL of this bitching and moaning about what should have been doesn’t solve anything today.
The government did not achieve this without OUR compliance and often our own stupidity. We keep sending these megalomaniacs back into offices we know, and HAVE known, they were unfit for.
There is enough blame to go around.
This is now. We need to stop, take deep breath, and figure out a way to stop this madness...or go along again, get burned again, and be twice as bad off as we are now. Because it CAN get worse.

It's going to take a few more elections like we had in 2010. The RINO's and the Bush family took about ten years to get rid of most of the Reaganites, which is what got us into this mess.

We expect bad government from the Democrats, but when the Republicans aren't there to counteract it we get into big trouble.

The politicans don't seem to be bothered by the debt at all.

All the drama is simply a show for the 'little people'

Congratulations on your new criminal status!

Did TARP originate under W or Obama? Whose signature is on the 2009 federal budget?

Our economic problems started under W. Obama is continuing the tradition.

Yup, it did. And they just voted to cut $1 trillion dollars...over 10 years.

Steve Wynn (who usually supports Democrats)

He still supports Democrats, he just doesn't like Obama lately. He'll come around before the election though I guess.

“A lot” now there’s a fine measure of perspective......

Obama has grown the deficit 4 TIMES as much as Bush in ONE QUARTER the time!!!

In 2007 the Federal Government received RECORD REVENUE under the Bush Tax Cuts.
Increasing Tax Rates on ANYBODY, but especially the “Rich” job creators, KILLS JOB CREATION and REDUCES FEDERAL REVENUE!
Obamacare, a destructive Energy policy, and a mountain of other job killing regulation, lay strictly at the feet of Obama!

Why is everyone spending time trying to fix the blame, when the very lifeblood of this country depends on everyone trying to fix the problem?

"Those that fail to learn history are doomed to repeat it" are compelling words, and can guide our hand now based on what happened in 1997 and in other "quick fixes" in which follow-through never happened. So we take the lessons already learned and apply them to the current situation.

We expect bad government from the Democrats, but when the Republicans aren't there to counteract it we get into big trouble.

And if it's the republicans campaigning on 'responsible government' but instead giving us demonrat-lite, compassionate conservatism, big spending insanity?

Then it's time for a Tea Party!

The RINO's and the Bush family took about ten years to get rid of most of the Reaganites, which is what got us into this mess.

Boy-you-got-that-right bump.

Actually, I think they purged the Reagan people from the Administration before Reagan left office. Dick Allen was set up, people like Jude Wanniski were sidelined, a serious effort was made to ditch Ed Meese, and his predecessor as AG, Wm. French Smith, a Reaganaut from California, was disposed of early and easily.

Kinder gentler, my ass -- not to conservatives, they weren't! They're still running a quiet war of extermination against Texas conservatives under the guise of "good government" (i.e. running RiNO's against social-conservative school board and board of ed candidates, putting up RiNO's for high-court judgeships [often Mexican-American] and fostering other Hispanic soft-core Republicans politically).

The Bush family has been running this low-temperature "kinder, gentler" genocidal political war against Texas conservatives since Poppy was a congressman in Houston almost 40 years ago. That's a long time to take that "kinder, gentler" stuff in the ear.

Because IMHO, if I may offer an idea, they aren't really fighting about the budget any more. They're fighting over 2012 and whether Obama is going to be able to register 20-30,000,000 Mexicans as new American citizens with sacred voting rights to vota Democratica!

You’ve asked and anwered your own question!

We’re “fixing blame” to avoid repeating the failures of history!!!!
