Even in gentrified, “yuppie” urban areas, the novelty of having people pee on your tiny manicured lawn at 3 in the morning wears off by the time you are in your 30’s.
It was ‘quite amusing’ that in the late 80s - early 90s period you see a lot advertisements and magazine articles of ‘high powered young executives’ abandoning their high paying but stressful jobs to return to nature to alpaca farms, inner peace and all that, and spend more time with their children.
I just thought some ones are doing a pretty good con job.
I live in the Bronx.
I am 36. Trust me - i am trying to leave this urban jungle like no other.
Flee from NY!
who wants to live among gangs, immigrants, drugs, and filth?
My greatest failure in life is in not being able to convince my son not to move to NYC...imagine me, basically a country boy, raising a city-dweller!... He’s single, 36, not Gay, but loves the 24 hour self-absorbedness of it. I guess no attachments and having a job gets him a few things there, but I cringe at the thought of that city.
Its called common sense.
Most rational people have figured out that we’re out of money used to keep the feral humans in the cities at bay.
a loft in a cool, funky neighborhood close to bars and theaters sounds appealing until you have your first kid and he wants to go outside and play.
If the Obama Depression rachets up to result in cutting payments to the Tapeworm Class, the Deep Blue Democrat Cesspit Cities will begin emptying into the burbs and country. This will not have a happy ending.
For some, the city offers professional or social opportunities that just can’t be duplicated elsewhere. For most however, it’s just a very expensive tax on just about everything. The trick is to figure out which group you fall into.
Very true. Young singles with no kids might like the city life and being close to bars and nightlife and all that. Many people’s perspectives change when they start having kids.
In fact, I read that in many cities, people with kids move out by the time the kids are five years old. This corresponds to the age when kids start school. This time of the children’s lives really focuses the parents on whether they really want to live in the city, when a nice suburb and a house would be a better fit for a family with children.
I must be getting really old and about to die....I'd like nothing better than to have my children and grandchildren living with me.
And it’s easy to be liberal about subjects such as the public urination and God knows what if you are an adult living on your own. But it’s somethng else again if there are things like this happening that you don’t want children to see everyday. Having children really can change your perspective on how liberal/libertarian you want to be about other people’s behavior.

I see the Left propagandists have appropriated “bright” from the atheists, and applied it to the hip and inclusive condescending crowd who rise above “fear” and “get it” about urban living.
There is nothing “bright” about choosing for your living environment, third world savagery over the peaceful and law-abiding folks at the top of western civilization.
I hear ya Gaffer, I know the moment they leave I'll want them back for the company. They moved back in due financial hardship. They have jobs but they don't pay enough for self sufficiency. So, we're just one big family. Grandparents make the best baby sitters.
Hell, if the economy doesn't change course we'll all live like 3rd worlder's with 5 families to a home, getting electricity from car batteries.
Young wealthy professionals have never flocked to any area that has a lot of black people; they will move into an area after they’ve been removed.
Anyone telling you otherwise is lying.
Yes, I’d imagine when they see who else will be in the class they run for the hills...
