A mother and brother of a victim of Syrian President Bashar Assads death squads were gunned down as they tried to bury the victim until security forces fired at crowds. Five others were killed and more than 40 were wounded.
The mourners fled in a panic, and soldiers and police continued to shoot at anyone in the street in Homs, a center of opposition against the Assad regime.
Video, must see
The death toll the past four days has climbed to 50, and even pro-government media are beginning to encourage diplomatic means to end what one newspaper called a nightmare. Human rights groups estimate that more than 1,600 people have been mowed down since the beginning of the four-month uprising, but the numbers probably are far higher. In addition, more than 20,000 have been arrested, half of them still in custody and hundreds of them tortured.

Oh, it’s a brave man that can attack a funeral. What was the matter, didn’t they have the guts to attack while their victims were in the shower?
Gutless cowards. They make a strong case for genocide.
Bashar is headed for a Ceausescu moment..
Why isn’t Obama sending troops in, like we did in Libya?
Can't come soon enough.
I was going to say Bush’s fault...
Dollar is trading at 3.4319 shekels. What will he pay for it with? More paper?
Him, too. And Sara, and the Tea Party.
muslims slaughtering other muslims. A preview of their ultimate goal of ummah.
Always thought that Israel should have used this technique at the funerals of Pali terrorists. Wait until the mourner’s gather then napalm the funeral.
I do not remember reading that Gadaffi was killing his people like this Syrian butcher is doing?
Tempting, but no. Better to have your men there, taking pictures of the funeral and tracing license plates and seeing who gets into what cars, and putting tails on them. Then you can get the big honchos, quick and clean, with no collateral damage.
In the ME, terrorism runs in families. The women will be urging the kids to be good little terrorists, just like the dear departed.
In this case, collateral damage is good.
Assad is history, Hezbollah steps in, Israel gets attacked and goodnight Damascus.just a hunch.
Can’t agree. Sorry. Terrorism is popular when it works and when it pays. When you start hitting the chiefs instead of the indians, and making them look stupid (extremely important), mommy says to the little dears, “remember what I said about the glory of jihaad? I was just joking. Stay away from those people. They bring shame to their families. Instead listen to that nice Imam Palazzi.”
Hizbollah can’t step in anymore. They’ve been doing Assad’s dirty work where his own soldiers won’t, and they are now hated in Syria. They can try, but it won’t quell the unrest, and they can’t attack Israel if the people on the streets are up in arms and soldiers are mutinying. This is probably the only positive thing that will ever come out of the “Arab Spring,” the disintegration of the three-way Shiite/Alawite axis between Lebanon, Syria and Iran. A few choice words from the Ayatollahs of Iraq undermining the Iranian Ayatollahs’ authority would be icing on the cake.
Can’t agree with you.
We have Pali mothers who are soooooo proud of their suicide bomber sons. Hell, there are suicide bomber collector’s cards over there.
The families have to share the blame. And the punishment.
They’re proud if they succeed and it gets concessions from Israel. If they get caught by one of the robots Israel has used, blow off their own leg(s) and harm nobody, then get shipped off to Be’er Sheva where they sing like canaries, they don’t get a trading card, mommy hides her head in shame, and the chiefs get a missile riding up their a@#$#. Make it not pay, and it is no longer the source of pride.
It is an effective way to identify affinity groups ... totally immoral, mind you, but when you have the _resident in your corner, what’s to worry?
Whoops, at first I thought this was about Independent Payment Advisory Board.
