Study Shows that Black Men Are Safer Locked up than Walking Free

The July issue of the Annals of Epidemiology reports the results of a study about the mortality rate of men incarcerated in prison. From 1995 to 2005 an in-depth study was done of both black and white men, between the ages of 20 and 79, who were incarcerated in North Carolina prisons. The statistics were then compared with an identical study done of black and white men who were not incarcerated in the state during the same 10-year period. The results showed that black men who were incarcerated had a 30-to-40% chance of surviving longer than their black counterparts living freely outside the walls of prison. However, white men actually had a 12% lower chance of survival while incarcerated.

This is very big news when you consider the way the left is always bemoaning the high percentage of black males who are doing time in prison. The study is being used to convince the public that given better health care, the life expectancy of all black men will rise. After all, the results of giving black men in prison better healthcare has increased their chances of survival. This conclusion will also be used to convince the American voter that we cannot afford to overturn Obamacare. After all, the study shows that minorities will suffer the most if it's repealed. So prepare yourself for the MSM to call the Republican presidential nominee racist if his or her platform includes the repeal of Obamacare.

Now obviously I disagree with the MSM's spin on the study reports, because instead of proving that black men need more healthcare, I believe it proves that they need more supervision so that they will not do drugs and kill each other. After all, if you look back at the year 2006, which is just one year after the study was completed, you will see that 24% of black Americans (pdf) were covered by Medicaid, compared to only 16% of whites. We are talking about almost 1/4 of the black American community had free health care. If you look into the numbers, I would bet that the percentage is even higher today. Especially considering the way Obama's hope and change has continued the destruction of the black community started by Johnson's great Society.

Many liberals hate to admit it, but the reason black men have such a high mortality rate is because of black-on-black crime. Black Americans make up only12% of the population, but they account for more than 45% of all murder victims, and 90% of those are killed by other blacks. I won't even get into the statistic that shows how black crime in America as a whole is at epidemic proportions. However, the effects are grim, long-lasting and undeniable.

So much for all those trillions of redistributed dollars that were supposed to help the disadvantaged minorities. I guess the left wasn't satisfied with destroying the black family and community, because what this study truly shows is that a black man is safer behind prison walls than he is walking free in the streets. It is truly sad, especially when you consider that there are more black men behind bars today than there ever were imprisoned slaves. Below is the press release about the study.

All-Cause and Cause-Specific Mortality Among Black and White North Carolina State Prisoners, 1995-2005 David L. Rosen, MD, PhDa, David A. Wohl, MDb, Victor J. Schoenbach, PhD Purpose We compared mortality rates among state prisoners and other state residents to identify prisoners' health care needs. Methods We linked North Carolina prison records with state death records for 1995-2005 to estimate all-cause and cause-specific death rates among black and white male prisoners ages 20−79 years and used standardized mortality ratios (SMRs) to compare these observed deaths with the expected number on the basis of death rates among state residents. Results The all-cause SMR of black prisoners was 0.52 (95% confidence interval, 0.48−0.57), with fewer deaths than expected from accidents, homicides, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. The all-cause SMR of white prisoners was 1.12 (95% confidence interval, 1.01−1.25) with fewer deaths than expected for accidents but more deaths than expected from viral hepatitis, liver disease, cancer, chronic lower respiratory disease, and HIV. Conclusions The mortality of black prisoners was lower than that of black state residents for both traumatic and chronic causes of death. The mortality of white prisoners was lower than that of white state residents for accidents but greater for several chronic causes of death. Future studies should investigate the effect of prisoners' preincarceration and in-prison morbidity, the prison environment, and prison health care on prisoners' patterns of mortality. The type of “freedom” enjoyed by a large segment of black America is very boring. Their entitlements don’t encourage any sort of creative thinking or entreprenuerialship. All “necessities” are paid for. They’re actually similar to one who was born into real wealth in that they have waaay too much free time. Instead of martini’s, cigars and yachting accidents infringing on their life spans it’s crack, drive by’s and fast foods.

In this article about a 10 year study of incarcerated men compared to free men, it would also suggest that all other races would see a decrease in the mortality rate if more black men were incarcerated. I know, I know I will be called a racist for even thinking along those lines, but being a conservative, I am already considered a racist by default.

I don't doubt it. However prison is where many black men convert to islam. I find those converts to be pretty nasty & go right back to dealing drugs etc. I know prison guards who say they are the worst in the county jails So if in the county jails they are bad I can only wonder how bad they are in the state prisons.

Very interesting! And a “win/win” for those who would like to see long term incarceration for political and ordinary felons whose life would be extended on the basis of these findings. After all, they've “earned” a chance at a longer life.

Other than prayers for their souls, we can not be concerned that evil people will accept an evil religion over the true God while they are being punished for their crimes.

Evil will seek out evil, even if they are in the presence of God. Eve chose evil over good while living in the very presence of God, and so did her son Cain. Not to mention Satan himself and all the angels that rebelled with him.

Then there is Judas, who at the time was considered the best disciple because he was allowed to be the treasurer and sat at the right hand of God Himself.

If all those could not be stopped from the influence of evil, then how would you suggest that we stop evil men in prison from gravitating to an evil religion?

For now we all have free will, and with it comes the choice to choose good over evil. One day we will lose our ability to freely chose because our choice will be to forever worship the one and true God.

Until then, we must accept evil choosing evil, and lock them up when they commit crimes punishable by incarceration.

As expected, the left is using the study to puish more government control of healthcare.

So far I think I am the only one who wrote an article pointing out that the study shows black men are safer because of the crime in the streets that reduces their length of years.

The left is trying to say it is because of better healthcare in prison that makes them live longer.

However, I thought I made all that clear in the article.

In prison, you don’t have freedom, but the feed you, clothe you, allow you exercise, protection from the elements, have security around to deal with problems, and do their best to keep drugs and alcohol away from you. No stress about working a job or raising kids (right).

Not a surprise they live longer in prison.

Soon it will be considered racist if the state doesn’t take care of the rest of the black men this way. “OH so you want me to die young, is that it? Arrest me b~tch!”
