Despite the struggling economy and broad dissatisfaction with national conditions, the public has a positive view of the United States global standing. But more think that the U.S. is one of the greatest countries in the world than say it stands above all other countries.
Slightly more than half (53%) say that the United States is one of the greatest countries in the world, along with some others. Fewer (38%) say that the U.S. stands above all other countries in the world. Just 8% think that there are other countries that are better than the U.S.
As in the past, the public remains confident in the nations ability to solve major problems. Nearly six-in-ten (57%) say that as Americans, we can always find ways to solve our problems and get what we want. Just 37% say this country cant solve many of its important problems. Opinions are little changed from previous surveys. In 2004, 59% expressed confidence in the American peoples ability to tackle major problems.
These findings come from the Pew Research Centers 2011 Political Typology survey, conducted in February and March and released May 4, 2011. The survey shows wide partisan differences in views of Americas global standing: 52% of Republicans say the U.S. stands above all other countries compared with just a third each of Democrats and independents.

by MASA, right?
Did Pu poll Just Americans or foreigners too?
Foreigners always thought poorly of Americans going back to George III, except for the ones smart enough to come here.
Looks like the our educators are doing a good job. /sarc

OK, but what about Batman vs. Spiderman? Both are great, but who is superior??!
I wish they’d make all of the illegal aliens read this. Maybe they’d go home and Americans could take their country back.
It’s a lot harder to get into the “others.” It’s probably real easy to get a job in, say, Singapore, but good luck sneaking in, and they’d probably beat you bloody with a cane before kicking you out.
the leftists won’t be happy until we think we are the scum of the planet
Yea, but what’s really critical is who would kick who’s butt - James T. Kirk or Jean Luc Picard? ;-)
Well I guess they’re as entitled to their opinions as I am to mine.
This is not surprising, given...
a) 30 years brainwashing children to believe this
b) liberal guilt (like Obama apologizing worldwide for US ascendancy)
c) Over 25% of US residents are foreign born or children of foreign born, many of whom are like the Mexican soccer fan in LA booing the US team who said, “I was born in Mexico, and that is where my heart will always be.”
No kidding half the nation thinks we are nothing special. The liberals who assuage guilt by putting down their own nation and teach their children to do the same have combined with the immigrants who still love the old country and teach their children to do the same.
The Culture War has never been more furious.
I thank God that when I was growing up, I learned and was encouraged to see for myself, that America was head and shoulders the greatest and best nation in the world.
I was not so stupid as to think no other nations had value or had noble people. But NO nation on the planet was as generous or as reasonable as the USA.
I tried to teach this to a co-worker and the point was completely lost on her.
I told her there is a huge body of world art in the Louvre in Paris, France and asked her how it got there. She had no clue. So I educated her.
The Vatican collected the art through coercion, persuasion, taxation or what have you.
In the early 1800s, Napoleon Bonaparte then sacked Italy and took all that art back with him to Paris.
During WWII, the Germans sacked France and shipped all that art from Paris to Berlin.
The USA sacked Germany. Now here is where the story changes. Did the USA ship all that art back to Washington DC to put on display? Did they steal that art from another nation, like Germany did? Like France did? Like Italy did?
No. No we did not. We sacked Germany, and rather than steal the art from the vanquished as every other greedy nation did, we are more noble and returned the art to it’s last rightful owner, even though they stole the art to begin with.
Nope, the lesson was completely lost on her.
Anyway, it was nice to be alive at a time when I was still taught that America was the best nation on earth. America haters, especially liberal US America haters call us jingoistic and too proud and too patriotic. Screw them.
I don’t believe America is the best nation on earth out of misguided patriotism, but because they give their people the most possible freedom, and give other nations better treatment than any other nation on earth does.’
This is a fact. How much longer until we are bound in socialist tyranny and Australia or Switzerland becomes the world’s greatest nation, I just can’t say. In the meantime, we continue to fill that lofty place on the world stage.
