A British teenager is suspected of masterminding computer hacking attacks on the CIA, the U.S. Senate and Sony from his bedroom.
Ryan Cleary, 19, was arrested at his familys home in Essex in a dramatic swoop following a joint inquiry by Scotland Yard and the FBI.
He was held hours after the UKs serious crime unit came under online siege from the hacking group known as LulzSec. The group recently declared on Twitter its intention to break into government websites and banks and leak confidential documents.

hang the brat
Hacking’s not as much fun when you are hanging by your heels from a lamp post.
OMG! A crazy brilliant POS with a “mum” provider hacks what the entire US Intel Community cannot not prevent. We are lost!
He hacked into the CIA website, and that of the US Senate. It’s not just a website, but a government website.
She said he hardly ever left his dimly-lit bedroom which consisted of a computer with two monitors, a cooling unit, a broken TV, and a double bed.
Mrs Cleary who suffers from bipolar disorder said: He is a complete recluse, he would only come out of his room to use the bathroom. I would have to leave his dinner outside his room door.
I dont know how he would be coping with being dragged out of the house like this. He didnt go out at all.
What a sad story.
Idiot mother... don't leave his dinner outside the door. When given the choice between hunger and leaving his room, he'll leave his room.
It's like the hundreds of 911 calls for cats supposedly "stuck" in trees. When's the last time you've seen even one cat skeleton in a tree because it chose starvation over climbing down out of the tree? Hunger overcomes fear.
Good point. I wonder, how different things would be if the gifted were given half the resources of the irresponsible.
Don’t worry your medical records are safe. The Gubmint said so.
It doesn’t quite compare with the sentences for rape and murder. Something’s out of whack.
“It doesnt quite compare with the sentences for rape and murder. Somethings out of whack.”
Everytime one of these sites is “hacked”, it costs millions and millions of dollars. Not only those costs, but think of all the costs associated with credit card fraud from stolen information. Very expensive.
They do have to make an example of people like this, but I don’t think putting them in with rapists and murderers is the answer. Perhaps a long time in a minimum security set up.
That's because rapists and murderers do not show what total incompetents and fools the political and bureaucratic leaders are. The absolute worst thing any peasant can do in today's society is show just how impotent, bereft of knowledge and incapable these leaders are within their own realms. They want all the toys but have no idea what those toys involve and when some peasant shows the world just how stupid these leaders and their decisions are, they drop a bomb on his head.
He did what we have paid many, many millions of "security experts" to do, and he did it for free and succeeded while our best computers pros failed at. Give him a medal and a job working for us.
I’m not talking about putting a hacker in with murderers and rapists. I’m talking about how often the latter get far lighter sentences. The cost is a result of half-stepping security measures put in place by the gov. There will always be hackers. Do you think the ChiComs can’t do what this kid did? Do you think the ChiComs will be sentenced to prison terms when they do?
That’s it exactly! Don’t embarrass the overlords.
