Romneys Religion Problem
Andrew C. McCarthy
Mitt Romney is said to be the early frontrunner in the GOP presidential sweepstakes. One rival, Newt Gingrich, is perceived as floundering in a swirl of unforced errors and staff insurrection. Yet when it comes to Islam, which will continue to matter mightily in the next administration, the frontrunner could learn a thing or two from the flounderer. The issue is not religion. It is the seditious Islamist political program.
Most Americans, myself included, would prefer not to have to think about Islam at all. Muslims forced their beliefs onto our consciousness by wanton violence and gross violations of human rights. While there are fitful efforts to reform Islam, and thus differing interpretations of its dogmas, mainstream Islam is still founded on sharia, Islams archaic, immutable legal framework (also known as Allahs law).
Sharia systematizes discrimination against (and brutal repression of) women, homosexuals, and, above all, non-Muslims (dhimmis). It is thus ironic that when the left-leaning legacy media broaches the subject of Islam, as CNN did during the GOP candidates debate this week, the context is usually claimed discrimination against Muslims. It is a testament to how deeply front groups for the Muslim Brotherhood an enterprise that marries Islams Salafist fundamentalism to modern statism, under the populist banner of social justice have seeped into the Democratic party, from which the press gets its talking points. And given how desperately the GOP establishment craves the crumbs of love that fall from the medias table, it should not surprise us that Republicans, too, are cowed by the Brotherhoods agents. That was not a Democratic president hustling over to the nearest mosque after the 9/11 attacks to brand Islam the religion of peace.

I still want to know!
Does Romney wear the “special” underpants?
Romney has a RINO problem primarily, IMO, with RomneyCare hanging around his neck like a neon sign.
Mitt Romney is said to be the early frontrunner in the GOP presidential sweepstakes.Huh? Sarah Palin hasn't announced yet, but she *is* the frontrunner, all she has to do is announce.
The big lesson to take away from Newt's floundering is, one flounders when one has no vision other than "I want the power."
Does his religion make him a snake in the grass big gov’t rino?
I love it. The title of the article: “Romney’s Religion Problem”.
Then in the very first paragraph: “The issue is not religion”.
Make up your minds, already!
Benson wrote...a forme r Mormon.....
What shapes ones worldview, the basis of ethics, truth, morality and law are derived from religion based beliefs (even atheists do so without realizing it).
Religion by itself is not a litmus test. But the issue is, what are the specific beliefs of a particular religion?..... For example, would we consider an Al Queda follower of radical Islam as a candidate? What about a new ager who consulted and sought guidance daily from spirit-guides? What about a Klu Klux Klan member who has made a religion out of racism? What about a Scientology leader?
Are these extreme examples? Well, part of Islams strategy is to gain power and influence in a country through conversions, births, and gaining a majority of the population. This is beginning to be observed in France and parts of England....... My real concern is that an ‘Missionary-in-Chief for the Mormon Church.’
If asked directly about some conflicting or controversial doctrine Romney responds,...... There are caricatures that pick some obscure aspect of your faith that you never even think about and assume its a central element of the Church. Mormon leaders have said all sorts of things in the past and present but are not Church doctrine....... This is smoke and mirrors. These points we raise are not caricatures, are not obscure, and are Church doctrines.
....when the Mormon Church is confronted with the fact that their beliefs are not truly Christian, they find themselves in an extraordinarily awkward position. They cannot defend themselves by expressly explaining their own theology, because it is heretical to Christianity.
It is noteworthy that former Pulitzer Prize winning editorial cartoonist, and grandson of the former Mormon Prophet Ezra Taft Benson, Steve Benson is featured in a story titled, Ex-Mormon Cartoonist Says Romney Not Telling Truth, following his speech (Editor and Publisher, 12/18/07).
Benson responded with Yeah right! to Romneys claim of not allowing the churchs teachings to influence decisions in the White House.
Benson, a life long Mormon until he left the church in 1993 says one of the reasons he left in disgust was because church officials tried to fool church members and the general public into believing that his 94 year old grandfather and church President was still capable of leading the church. He saw with his own eyes that he was very much debilitated.
Steve Benson states, the only way Romney could be truly independent of the church as U.S. President would be disavow Mormon doctrine. He hasnt done that. Benson also after citing several examples like the teaching on blacks and polygamy says, The Mormon Church has publicly flipped 180 degrees when it feels its necessary for its image, for its financial solvency, and for political expediency.
Mormonism has another problematic issue. The founding Prophet Joseph Smith preached for and tried to organize a version of theocratic rule within the framework of his prophetic leadership. He organized a strong Mormon militia, became its General, and attempted to maneuver his way to establish himself as Governor of Illinois or President of the U.S. When he was killed by a mob in a gun battle, he was running for President of the U.S.
Brigham Young, the second Prophet even attempted to form a Mormon theocracy in the Utah territory. Even when petitioning to become a state, the Mormons then had only one political party, the Peoples Party.
Now all that is but a faded memory. But one must still ask, what are the foundational beliefs that generated such actions?
Mitt Romney is an all out scumbag destructive anti-American force, no matter what his religion is. May as well keep Hussien.
What I planned on doing when they gave us McCain - WILL be done if they give us mitt.
This is a long read.
/// yes, but McCarthy is one of the best. a true patriot.
thank you for posting this.
also, as he said, Romney’s religion is not the problem.
Islam is the real problem, the real threat to our very existence. much as Communism was during the cold war.
if in the cold war,
the chief aide to the US Secretary of State,
was a confirmed communist, born in Russia,
do you think that might have gotten peoples attention?
yet we ignore things like this:
“...It is a testament to how deeply front groups for the Muslim Brotherhood...”

ENEMY OF THE STATE: HILLARY MUST RESIGN: Mother of Clinton adviser is member of Muslim Brotherhood
Support for abortion, Planned Parenthood fundraisers, the whole Cub Scouts vs the homosexuals fiasco, government takeover of health care...these things won't go away just because he has a different religion.
George Romney was a fine American, a respectable businessman, Senator ...the whole 9 yards. He had it all, so how can Mormonism be a religious issue following this lying, back stabbing, program worshiping, traitor BO?
Mitts problem with me is that he’s Socialist-lite!
I pray that you are right. Romney would be a total disaster.
“presently no screen name” Hey that is really cool, how did you do that?
AMAZON.COM: The Mormon Defenders offers for the first time in print responses to leading Latter-day Saint apologists who argue that theirs is a true Biblical faith. Calling upon top-notch scholarship, The Mormon Defenders demonstrates that the case for a "Biblical" Mormonism is rooted in misinterpretations of the Scriptures.
Read the "reviews" of the book, too. They're interesting.
His only religion problem is the church of liberalism.
So those who think Romney's religion makes little difference are sadly mistaken...he is their Manchurian Candidate...and that of the democrats who have shaped him to be their man of the hour.....That is why his comments and answers are so canned...because they are formulated by his handlers and spoken as they determine. Who and what his father was holds little influence in who and what Romney is about....he's theirs and he will do as he is told and enabled to do and say.
Excellent read.
