The death of common sense and how our police are losing the plot
Daily Mail ^ | April 28 2011 | Richard Littlejohn

A beach bar singer on the Isle of Wight has been arrested for performing the song Kung Fu Fighting. Simon Ledger stands accused of racially aggravated harassment. He was entertaining a crowd enjoying the Easter sunshine when a man reported to be of Chinese origin took offence at the lyrics and complained to police. Mr Ledger was subsequently int erviewed and is now facing formal charges.

~snip~ So what in heaven’s name were the Isle of Wight Plod thinking when they decided to arrest Mr Ledger, who has included the song in his act for years? They maintain they had no option but to investigate the complaint. Under the law passed by Labour the definition of a ‘hate crime’ is: ‘Any incident . . . which is perceived by the victim or any other person (my italics) as being motivated by prejudice or hate.’ This legislation has previously been used to pursue, among others, two South Coast pensioners who protested against a gay pride rally, and led to Northamptonshire Police studying a Basil Brush video after a travellers’ activist complained that an episode broadcast on the children’s channel CBBC caused offence to gypsies. Somehow itinerant members of the ‘travelling community’ have managed to get themselves defined as an oppressed species. Those forced to live near illegal campsites might beg to disagree. Which brings us neatly to farmer Tracy St Clair Pearce.

Be glad it isn't this bad in the US...yet.

There is no need for the police to stick pedantically to the small print of the law in order to investigate every vexatious allegation of distress. Yet some officers seem to take great pleasure in pursuing the most trivial prosecutions on the flimsiest of evidence. The law-abiding middle classes are increasingly on the receiving end of this politically-driven zeal. Proper coppers tear their hair out in despair at the idiocy of their superiors."

Well then, it's time for the proper coppers to step up and identify the union-cop enablers, the cops making the middle-class citizen taxpayer's life miserable.

We ask them to expose the most rabid PC-laden comrades. You know, like we ask the Moslems to expose their most rabid comrades.

AT what point will people quit referring to England as a “free” nation. By most measures, they are the most repressive nation in Europe.

And the Democrat party is in direct contact and conispracy with them to do it again here. Bill Clinton’s team worked hard for Tony Blair’s campaign, etc.

England has no right to own guns. Even their Olympic team has to practice in another country.
They have no rights to free speech.
they live under a surveilance state that the Gestapo never dreamed of achieving.
They deny Mike Savage entry into the country to participate in a debate at Oxford. (he has said insensitive things about Muslims.)
They have no Constitution.
As a nation and government, they have not offended us as required to become an enemy,,, but we need to move away from regarding them as anything similar to us.

You CAN NOT play the song “Short People” in the state of Maryland.

Banned from the radio for years.

Another fine example of how the UK is leading Western Civ into the abyss of destruction with America trailing not far behind!!!!

I say we take off and nuke the country from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.

In contrast to its former existence, the UK is topping the charts as the most pathetic nation of the new millennium.

We Englishmen are Very Proud of our Constitution, Sir,” Mr. Podsnap explained with a sense of meritorious proprietorship: “It was Bestowed Upon Us By Providence. No Other Country is so Favoured as This Country ...”

Dire Straits’ “Money for Nothing” has been censored/edited of the original lyrics that used the word “faggot”.

Use the “it’s art!” defense, Mr. Ledger.

Only handguns are banned in Britain, as are semi-assault rifles. Rifles and shotguns are legal, albeit licenced. The British Olympic team trains on the Isle of Man, which is part of Britain. And self-governing. Hence different gun laws.

Britain has free speech, just as you do even although your country has as much PC nonsense as we do.

Britain does have a constitution. Rather more patchwork given the nature of Britain (four nations making up one state), but England has the 1215 Magna Carta, 1679 Habeus Corpus Act and the 1688 Bill of Rights, whilst Scotland has the 1320 Declaration of Arbroath, the 1638 National Covenant and the 1689 Claim of Right (our version of the 1688 English Bill of Rights).

Britain has free speech,

Perhaps, but the article strongly implies no free singing.

I think the poster meant that Britain does not have a first amendment protecting speech. And if you guys have a constitution, why is Christopher Hitchens always banging on that you don’t?

I think the key word here is ‘codified’. We absolutely do have a constitution. You can’t have universities offering ‘constitutional studies’, by constitutional experts, within a country who’s political system is defined as a ‘constitutional monarchy’ without actually having a constitution.

However, our constitution is not codified into a single document in the way, admirably, of the US constitution. But this does not mean that it does not exist.

Surprisingly, a whole slew of [I assume] otherwise sane people complained.

I’m short and I didn’t care.

I thought the song was funny.

[but then *I* don’t have a height neuroses]

My dad always told me that God made me small so I wouldn’t take over the world.
