Post-Abortion Trauma (Steven Tyler)
National Review ^ | 5/4/2011 | Kevin Burke

Posted on 05/04/2011 6:40:03 PM PDT by markomalley

Long before he won accolades as an American Idol judge, Steven Tyler was a bona-fide rock star, with all that that implied. In 1975, when he was in his late 20s and the lead singer for the band Aerosmith, Tyler persuaded the parents of his 14-year-old girlfriend, Julia Holcomb, to make him her legal guardian so that they could live together in Boston.

When Miss Holcomb and Tyler conceived a child, his longtime friend Ray Tabano convinced Tyler that abortion was the only solution. In the Aerosmith “autobiography,” Walk This Way (in which recollections by all the band members, and their friends and lovers, were assembled by the author Stephen Davis), Tabano says: “So they had the abortion, and it really messed Steven up because it was a boy. He…saw the whole thing and it [messed] him up big time.” Tyler also reflects on his abortion experience in the autobiography. “It was a big crisis. It’s a major thing when you’re growing something with a woman, but they convinced us that it would never work out and would ruin our lives. . . . You go to the doctor and they put the needle in her belly and they squeeze the stuff in and you watch. And it comes out dead. I was pretty devastated. In my mind, I’m going, Jesus, what have I done?”

(snip)

Those who support abortion rights assure us that post-abortion complications are a myth. But Steven Tyler cuts through this fog of denial and lays it on the line: Jesus, what have I done?

“in his late 20s and the lead singer for the band Aerosmith, Tyler persuaded the parents of his 14-year-old girlfriend”

Statutory rape also. I presume the time limit for prosecution has passed.

Wow!
I am enjoying the new Steven Tyler.

I hope his words changes hearts. I had an “angel” experience with abortion and the angel saved me! I have a beautiful boy now. Its hard to think about sometimes but so glad the “angel” showed up.

I know this is supposed to be about abortion, but ... um .... were there no Statutory Rape laws in 1975?

Sorry, but I couldn't get past the part of the story where he's almost 30 and she's FOURTEEN!

Women who have abortions go on to have a really high suicide and drug overdose rate.

“I had an “angel” experience with abortion and the angel saved me!”

That is so touching, I’m glad for you and your son.

>I am enjoying the new Steven Tyler.

Wait til you know about the real reason why Aerosmith broke up. Joe Perry, 1/2 of the duo, came out as a Republican in the Boston Herald and gave his support to McCain while Tyler, a flaming lib, thought that Perry was a racist. 3 years later, they rarely talk to each other.

Age of consent was much lower then in several states.

Is much lower still in many countries...I think lowest age in US is now 16 in a state or two? Not sure, I don’t need to keep close track of such things :-)

I always thought there was something a little hot about Joe Perry. I just figured it was the guitar...

“Shut up and Sing”

Why do they speak about something they know nothing about. I do hate that he is so liberal but he will come around, I give it 2 more years!!! :) He is growing up right before our eyes.

It’s my understanding, and I could be wrong, that the entire Aerosmith band became tee-totalers, no drugs or alcohol, after a long period of fuzziness and brain cell damage.

My husband went to an Aerosmith concert in the ‘90s and they didn’t even allow beer to be served in the venue at all. I’m hoping that that is the case. He seems a heck of a lot better than Paula Abdul, who was drunk most of the time on the AI show.

Steven Tyler has made waves on this season of American Idol, and he will continue to do this month. It was announced on Tuesday that the singer has plans to debut his first ever solo single on the Fox reality series later this month. The single will hit the radio on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show on May 9, and then it will premiere on the results show to air May 12. Not only that, but Steven Tyler has managed to talk his band, Aerosmith, to perform on the Idol finale later this month. He hinted at the possibility earlier in the season.

According to TV Guide, the single is titled It Feels So Good, and it will be the music video for the song that will premiere on the episode. Jennifer Lopez did the same earlier this season with one of the music releases off her latest album. However, Steven has not released a solo song before. All his music has been released with Aerosmith. There was some tension between him and the band when he took on the judge role at American Idol, but he didn’t let that tension stop him from taking the job at Fox.

He said the following about the appearance of the band on Idol: “We’re playing the last show of the season. It was always my intention, always, to get Aerosmith on the show. I mean, Joe [Perry]’s done it. I’m ready for it. I would love to play with Aerosmith.” The fact that the rest of the band has set aside their issues and decided to perform on the finale for Idol is interesting to see. Joe Perry had even threatened Tyler with the possibility of the band continuing on without him, but it looks like that hasn’t happened. Aerosmith has been in the business a long time, and once Steven Tyler is done playing judge on Idol, he will more than likely return to the band. Right now, he is trying on the solo act on for size, but he is and will always be a band front man.

Steven Tyler Says Joe Perry Feud Is Over!

http://www.wetpaint.com/american-idol/articles/steven-tyler-says-joe-perry-feud-is-over

That Steven Tyler… such a diplomat! He has merged American Idol fans with his Aerosmith fan base in a major way, bringing ever more rock and roll people into the Idol fold, and introducing a whole new audience to his work with Aerosmith. And remember back when some people were saying that joining up with the Idol crew would ruin his credibility? Preposterous! Or anyway, it seems that way now from this side of Steven’s star turn as an Idol judge.

In fact, those old bad feelings are so far in the past, Steven’s biggest critic — Aerosmith guitarist, Joe Perry — has reportedly buried the hatchet. Rumors were swirling that Steven and Joe had made up and were in plans to get a new Aerosmith album going. Well, Steven T has confirmed as much via his Twitter, saying the feud is over. Or at least that’s what we think he’s saying, though his creative spelling sure doesn’t make it easy.

Here’s the message in question doled out over two separate tweets:

@IamStevenT So...LAST24HRS.FINISHED BOOK & ALL THE PICS, DID FINAL MIX ON (FEELS SO GOOD) SOLO SINGLE IN STUDIO...MET NICOLE (PUSSU CAT DOLL)SHE’S DOING HER OWN SOLO ALBUM...& SPOKE W/JP [Joe Perry] THE FUDE IS OVER...WERE IN LOVE AGAIN...GUIT PLAYERS EH??... NEEDED MY BROTHER BAK... O YEAH... I LOVE US

Well there certainly is more to the story than that. I think it was great for Steven to share his story. Redemption is a great thing.

1975. The age was probably 12. We did not raise the ages until the 1980’s in most Southern states. The south often has rules that take time to catch up to the rest of the country. Georgia and South Carolina you can marry your first cousin (most states will not allow that). The South still has an age of consent as 16. Can you believe that????
