Attorneys General Battle NLRB Over Boeing Plant

Nine state attorneys general sounded off in a letter to the National Labor Relations Board, calling a complaint it filed against Boeing for opening a production facility in South Carolina an assault on their states' economies.

After receiving a complaint from the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, the NLRB claims Boeing participated in unfair labor practices by threatening to open new, non-union facilities elsewhere when workers went on strike at the company's Washington state production facility in 2008.

The NLRB seems to be taking an extreme position here, in which they say union workers have the right to strike but businesses have no right to expand production in areas where strikes are less frequent. What do they think Boeing is supposed to do...just continue expanding production in Washington state and put up with very costly and disruptive strikes every few years? Shareholders and managers have rights too, and they have the right to make long-term investment decisions based partly on the climate of labor relations in different regions of the US and overseas. They have to consider the frequency and cost of strikes when making investment decisions and that is not any kind of retaliation for strikes. This is simply the right of shareholders and managers to make sound investment decisions, and that right balances out the right of union workers to strike. So why is the NLRB going off the deep end on this new Boeing assembly line in South Carolina?

Because that's how things are done under fascism.

. . .

My guess is that given the money already invested and the plans already made, they’re trying to coerce SC into unionizing and whittling away at right-to-work states.

I worked at Northwest Airlines for 17+ years.......and the answer to your question IS? They’re just protecting their own jobs man. I mean, if all states were right to work and unionization fell apart, would there not be a much smaller NRLB?

Unions have more influence in the current White House than all other institutions or individuals. The Stimulus Act, ObamaCare, Cap-and-Trade, the Financial Reform Act are all aimed a creating huge new bureaucracies that will employ the party faithful to fill the union coffers with dues. The Detroit bailouts were UAW bailouts. Obama (Or Richard Trumka who pulls his strings)—through NLRB—hopes to win a test case against Boeing and weaken Right-to-Work laws in states that protect workers from mandatory union membership. This is another sign that organized labor is going bankrupt on all levels. Obama is seen as the last hope for preserving unions and returning them to their glory days.

Your screen name says it all. Yet another attempt at a consolidation of central power. Wake up America and see what is transpiring in front of your very eyes. They must be stopped.

Pretty simple answer: Follow the money. The NLRB is in the back pocket of the AFL-CIO. The AFL-CIO has the Boeing employees in the bag and no longer has to beat Seattle workers up to get them to join. Seattle emplyees represent a steady source of income for union bosses. SC workers would not.

The only real question is: Why bother asking the first question in the first place?

Pre-Lincoln this would have started a Civil War.

So why is the NLRB going off the deep end on this new Boeing assembly line in South Carolina?

Because people who are dues paying union thugs are more equal and more deserving of employment than grateful, people who don't pay vig to the mob for the God given Right and Moral Duty to work and provide for one's family.

The NLRB is clearly engaging in extortion and price fixing.

What is interesting to note is that Boeing could easily move these same operation to any BRIC nation and the NRLB could do squat. Imagine if you will the recent curious incident by India's military in removing American aircraft from their short buy list. Now what would happen if Boeing were to approach the Indians and say "Would you reconsider if we built these aircraft in your country with your people?"

With Marxists and Progressives decimating the military, and with their energy and TSA policies crushing the commercial and general aviation industry, the US market is dying and not likely to ever come back. With the insane and rising tax environment where companies are taxed on profits made overseas, at some point one must ask why is Boeing still doing anything in the united States?

The South Carolina gig appears to me to be motivated by patriotism (and that managers don't want to move their families into a third world nation) but with the way things appear to be going, the united States will be more savage and thuggish than the current BRIC economies. Galt's Gulch might just be Asia.

When is that tipping point reached?

What Boeing needs to do is announce it is relocating to China or another country.

I’d love to see them do it.

The NLRB is down to 4 members (5 is normal - can you believe that 5 people rule a nation of 300 million?).

It is being used as a club to punish anti-union moves being made by American companies. They’ve been off the rails since Obama came to power.

Most attorneys are expecting to lose at this level and take it up on appeal where they at least have a chance of being heard.

The fault lies with Congress and ultimately us. Why have we allowed Congress to abrogate its authority to pass laws and vest that Constitutional authority in the Executive?

See also the Consumer Product Safety Commission another 5 member ruling body covering 300 million Americans. Look up Jarts.

Obama and company are taking revenge for America’s perceived wrongs.

The goal is to cripple us enough to knock us off the top and create a flatter world - Brazil, Russia, China, India all equal with us.

Nothing here that a couple of suitcases full of $100 bills dropped off at the Democratic headquarters couldn’t fix.

"So why is the NLRB going off the deep end on this new Boeing assembly line in South Carolina? "

They are trying to make it slow, painful and costly for Boeing so as to dissuade other companies from doing the same.

The NLRB KNOWS they will not prevail.

A frivolous interference if there ever was one.

"Galt's Gulch might just be Asia."

I've been saying for a couple of weeks that Boeing should take out full page ads in the 10 largest papers in the nation. Explain their case.

Then, announce in no uncertain terms that it's SC or nothing. If the cannot continue with their plans unencumbered they will move the facility to Brazil, India, China or whomever seems most hospitable. They will take the tools and talent with them.

It's the ONLY way to handle this.

Gov Haley should just tell the NLRB and big labor that unless they plan on sending in armed troops and are prepared to open fire on the workers, the plant will open as planned.

I sure hope you’re right. If the courts don’t uphold Boeing management’s right to run its own company, then the US will end up in much bigger economic trouble than we’re in today.

This action by the Obama administration (recess appts to the NLRB which stymie industry growth) should be one of the primary issues used in the 2012 election. This entire issue is being swept under the rug by most of the MSM because their approach isn’t simply slanting the news, it is choosing which news we get to hear. When Scott Walker passed policies that would limit union power the press pounded endlessly on his attempt to stifle “Worker Rights.” The action of the NLRB is the same - but for non-union workers. The Pubs (or rather the Tea-Party) should pound this issue so hard that the MSM can no longer keep it quiet.
