Jan Brewer vetoes Arizona’s “Birther bill” [Any Arizonans willing and able to explain?]

Not the only veto she issued tonight, either. She also rejected a bill that would have allowed people to carry guns on state college campuses on grounds that it was “poorly written.” Not a total surprise given the political climate in the state after Gabby Giffords’s shooting, but a mild surprise given the grassroots conservative cred Brewer built for herself by championing Arizona’s immigration law.

This one’s a genuine surprise, though.

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer on Monday vetoed a bill to require President Barack Obama and other presidential candidates to prove their U.S. citizenship before their names can appear on the state’s ballot…

“I do not support designating one person [i.e. the secretary of state] as the gatekeeper to the ballot for a candidate, which could lead to arbitrary or politically motivated decisions,” said Brewer, who was secretary of state until she became governor in 2009.

“In addition, I never imagined being presented with a bill that could require candidates for president of the greatest and most powerful nation on Earth to submit their ‘early baptismal circumcision certificates’ among other records to the Arizona secretary of state,” she said. “This is a bridge too far.

I’m guessing there’s some local political angle that explains this, but I can’t figure out what it is and some furious googling reveals nothing. Any Arizonans willing and able to explain? She just started her new term so electoral politics is immaterial. Is there some core agenda item that she needs Democratic help to pass? Or is she trying to build goodwill with Obama for better cooperation on immigration? Or, just maybe, did she genuinely believe that the bill was stupid and embarrassing to Arizona? All theories welcome.

Louisiana Bill: House Bill 561 can be found Here.

From the Bill: ". . An original or certified copy of the candidate's birth certificate that includes the date and place of birth, the names of the hospital and the attending physician, and signatures of the witnesses in attendance."

Don't give up folks! Pass it on!

She is one of Obummer’s ten appointed FEMA Governors, which is suspicious in itself.

This may sound like a little bit of stretch...

No stretch at all. Besides violating their oaths, such maneuvers are always a dangerous game. Two have blown up in their faces at the federal level recent years.

They choked off the Clinton impeachment because they were afraid of allowing Gore the chance to campaign while sitting in the Oval Office. If they had convicted Clinton, Gore would have been stained and Republicans and fence sitters renergized. As a side benefit, it is safe to bet Clinton's wife would not now be a public figure hovering in the background.

They then sat on their hands when it was time to object to acceptance of the votes for O based on his lack of qualifications. IMO that is the only plausible excuse the 2009 Republicans have for ignoring their statute and the Constitution and certifying O - that Clinton provided a greater threat to national security.

It certainly exists if you believe the government of Hawaii.

Actually the HDOH has never made a definitive statement about that. But all he has to do is submit one and swear that it is authentic and valid. As you said; this bill isn't about 0baMao though. So, what are you railing on about him for?

That darned Constitution, always causing problems for the ruling elites.

Wow, another fine example of the kind of conservatives Mark Levin praises and wants us to follow, not liberals like Trump, mind you, but sound conservatives like Brewer, and those great conservatives who promise to cut $100 billion from the budget to only fail miserably on their goal. With conservatives like these, no wonder Trump’s poll numbers are high.

Thanks for the save there, Moderator.

“No guns on our college campuses, no guns on our kindergarten campuses!”

Which means, of course, that schools will continue to be the best places for murderous psychos to go, to ensure they rack up a high body count before a good guy with a gun shows up to stop them.

There's no video yet, but click on the blue title button and follow along with the lyrics. I think the song sums it up pretty well. Hope you like it.

Actually the HDOH has never made a definitive statement about that.

Wrong.

located in a bound volume in a file cabinet on the first floor of the state Department of Health. Fukimo said she has personally inspected it — twice. The first time was in late October 2008, during the closing days of the presidential campaign, when the communications director for the state's then Republican governor, Linda Lingle (who appointed Fukino) asked if she could make a public statement in response to claims then circulating on the Internet that Obama was actually born in Kenya.

Before she would do so, Fukino said, she wanted to inspect the files — and did so, taking with her the state official in charge of vital records. She found the original birth record, properly numbered, half typed and half handwritten, and signed by the doctor who delivered Obama, located in the files. She then put out a public statement asserting to the document's validity. She later put out another public statement in July 2009 — after reviewing the original birth record a second time.

"It is real, and no amount of saying it is not, is going to change that," Fukino said. Moreover, she added, her boss at the time, Lingle — who was backing John McCain for president — would presumably have to be in on any cover up since Fukino made her public comment at the governor's office's request. "Why would a Republican governor — who was stumping for the other guy — hold out on a big secret?" she asked.

LOL There is nothing in that statement that states the birth certificate Hawaii holds was issued by Hawaii. There is nothing that states Obama was born in the State of Hawaii. That statement simply says that Hawaii has the original birth certificate “on record in accordance with state policies and procedures.”

Fukino says that the original birth certificate she supposedly inspected twice is “real.” This doesn’t address Obama’s jpg and it has no legal meaning anyway.

Bwahahaha! This law sucks. Keystone cop material and I’d have vetoed it too.

‘Honestly, I swear it’s true!’ Yeah right.

There isn’t even a mention of why this law would require identity documentation. No mention of the U.S. Constitutional requirements or the phrase ‘natural born citizen.’ I would think they would have presented a basis for putting these requirements into law. Something to ground it in existing law.
