Allen Iverson to police: 'Do you know who I am?'
CNN ^ | 04-08-11 | Katie Glaeser

Atlanta, Georgia (CNN) -- Former NBA star Allen Iverson launched an expletive-ridden tirade against police when a car belonging to him was pulled over for a traffic violation last week, at one point telling the officer, "Take the vehicle, I have 10 more," according to a police report.

Iverson, 35, was a passenger in a grey Lamborghini, spied by an Atlanta officer changing lanes without signaling about 6 p.m. on March 30, according to the police report obtained by CNN.

The driver, identified in the report as Antwuan Clisby, couldn't produce any documentation for the vehicle, the report said. He then told the officer his passenger needed to leave the vehicle to eat dinner, and the officer said no one was leaving until the investigation was complete.

With that, Iverson became "irate," according to the police report, saying, "I'm the (expletive) passenger." The officer radioed for backup, and a second unit arrived, according to the report. Clisby and Iverson were asked to exit the vehicle, while Iverson continued to curse at the officer, the report said.

If the police recognize you instantly, that may not be a good sign.

What about the $10,000 he owes for registration of his car? He has been driving it for two years.

Once again, I am offended by the pop culture’s misuse of grammar. Mr. Iverson’s use of tense in this article is what gets me this time.

He should have said: “Don’t you know who I WAS?”

Yeah right. Iverson along with another man are in a Lambo with no paperwork and one of them wants to leave to go to dinner? If I were a cop and came upon that, I would be very suspicious as well. Especially if one of the occupants looked like this.

That's the thing that disgusts me about professional athletes. By virtue of who they are, or who they THINK they are, they are convinced that the laws which all of us are expected to abide somehow don't apply to them.

"Do you know who I am??"

"Yup, you're just another loud mouth, full of himself, smartass athlete who is about to get a ride downtown in the back of my cruiser....any more stupid questions, bruh?"

Here's the key part....

I stated to Mr. Iverson, 'It really doesn't matter who you are. You tried to conceal your vehicle with a fake drive-out tag due to you not paying for your tags.' "

Iverson had owned the car for at least two years, but had installed "dealer" vanity plates (as is the Georgia custom on newly purchased cars until plates are delivered).

Generally, I'm skeptical when cops pull anyone over for an changing lanes without signaling. But, a Lamborghini in a vanity plates is just BEGGING to be pulled over. Iverson just needed to spend the $50 to get his tags TWO YEARS ago, and none of this would have happened.

“He stated he was just upset about his car.”

Well, why was he so upset? After all, he has 10 other cars. The “do you know who I am” people are so full of themselves, they can’t believe a LOT of folks not only don’t know who they are, but also don’t CARE.

Some advice for Mr. Iverson ...

The best way to enter a courtroom is on your knees, with hands clasped.

"Take the vehicle, I have 10 more"

According to the local tabs in Philly he is actually broke and is way over his head in debt.

When Mel Gibson does it, it’s talk-show fodder for weeks. But when some talentless dribbler hack does it, he gets a bye from the Guardians of Outrage?

"What about the $10,000 he owes for registration of his car? "

I take it from your moniker that you live in GA? My brother lives in Alpharetta, and I have been with him when he was pulled over in a similar incident. But, he had just purchased his car, and as soon as he demonstrated that to the cops, we were sent on our way.

But, wouldn't the $10K have been paid when he purchased and titled his car, with only the nominal annual license fee due every year. Or, is GA like some other states that levies an annual personal property tax on its vehecles?

I dunno. The cops holding the passenger because the driver “changed lanes without signaling”?

Over-active police state. They're just waiting for you to break any of the 20,000 or something laws so they can throw your constitutional rights out the window.

Chickenpoop.
